From the X-Men, Storm can control weather, Wolverine has metal that can shoot from his hands and an almost invincibility, Rogue can take anyone's power through touch. These are fantasy powers, but what if they aren't? We hear about telekinesis (moving objects with one's mind), ESP/Psychic ability, Telepathy, Magik, etc... People are fabled to have these gifts. Science gives reasons like a person uses a larger percentage of their brain than others, or or a different part of the brain that most people have deactivated is simply activated in these people. If you could have an ability, what would you have? Whether it sounds crazy or not, (and I'm not talking about the ability to control everything or something like that, but the ability to do ONE thing, like control weather, nature, levitate objects, move objects, read people's minds, etc) or what do you think about people who supposedly have these abilities, do you believe it?
Some mysterious people with very interesting abilities, including a man who can detect underground water and a woman with poltergeist abilities!!

Okay, before anyone even think of dissmissing this idea as plain fantasy take into careful concideration what he/she? sorry, said. He does have a valid point if you take into concideration the fact that tk might be possible in your oppinion.

i believe it but then thats becoz i can do it.. it really depends on the person in question and even then people can chose to believe or not to beleive. i think its sort of the same though... like how people in x-men who have powers got them at an extreme emotional state.. coz most of the kinesis (for various people i know) it happens in great stress etc.
i've thought aboot this before... aboot the stress thing so yer.. but as for it being to such an extreme extent straight off i doubt. it would be rare to have it that strong right fromn the begining. but that doesnt make it impossible.
for no apparant reason i'd just like to say that ever since i was like 3/4 Storm has always been my fav

GO STORM!! lol but there are tons now.. last i check there was magma and all that

Time....that would be a great ability. Controlling time, in fact, that would be interesting if someone already does, but no one knows because they went somewhere else....all these missing people reports,

what if they're all time controllers

its nowhere near as strong in real life . Nobody can fly and blow stuff up from the air as far as I know - I would have sensed something that big a long time ago .

I can't believe what you guys are doing here. You complain that people don't take you seriously and at times certain members have said that they don't tell people because of that reason and that they don't want to be considered crazy and then here you are comparing yourselves to the X-Men.
You really aren't doing yourselves any favours.

exactly . Psi isnt nearly as strong as X-men like powers . Its a nutty comparison .

well, X-Men have cool powers

. I think they're comparing themselves to X-Men to see a chance if their powers are possible.
Like hey, did we once fantasize on traveling to the moon? *check-mark*
Cure people of diseases and illness(penicillin? *check-mark*
Jules Verned wanted to go around the world in 80 days(we can go around it in under a week) *check-mark*
NEXT FANTASY!!
who knows? Maybe the skies will be fulled of flying cars(and I have heard in the radio that developers have created a prototype of a flying vehicle).

hmm im gonna prove you wrong Xen!!

i will give it my best shot anyway

hey OC i know that its seems kinda childish but hey Hailo has a point and besides were not saying we're as powerful coz then hey im sure we could find rock solid proof.
i just think the stress thign is related is all.

Quite frankly, I was using X-men as just an analogy to bring out power or abilities otherwise unrecognized, perhaps just as great as the X-men or not. This discussion was to be about what types of abilities WOULD you have (regardless if people have proven to have them or not, because they are still abilities, just not founded yet) and for those people who do or don't have them, but are known abilities in people, this discussion is supposed to be about what we think of them (the abilities.)
And Oracle, why is it a bad thing to compare the powers we know about with the powers of the X-men? I mean, just because no one has come forward whose powers are the same as those of X-men, doesnt mean something equally as grand or the same exists or used to exist in a person.
And Xen, what do you mean you would have sensed? Do you have an ability and aren't sharing it? If you do, that's what this is supposed to be about, tell us about it, how you use it, what it's like, etc.
And Hailo's right, comparing ourselves with X-men doesn't make it bad. It just means us normal people who aren't gifted with something extraordinary have nothing to compare to, so we dream of what we would like to have. But for the people with abilities, would they want to change it, when did they first believe they had the ability, etc.
I'm sorry if a couple of you found something wrong with this discussion, but is that because you have abilities the rest of us don't? Don't ask normal people to understand something that the extraordinary people won't discuss.

personally i dont think that there should ever be a need for a persons psychic abilities to be as strong as the fictional/nonfictional powers of the xmen. ive been studying paranormal abilities and psionics for a little over a year and i have used psychokenesis once or twice to move very small objects, such as tooth picks, very short distances; i have empathic abilities, or the ability to sense the pain and emotions of other beings such as humans and animals; i also have moderate healing abilities, reiki and such; i have experienced controled and spontanious telepathy; i have caused massive thunder and rain storms by willing all the clouds in an extended area to gather in one place (mind you, the storm took awhile to form and it took me a couple days of focussing my will on that task in meditation but it sortof materialized over my town and there was a unexpected, by anyone but m, flood); and ive lit a candle without moving a muscle. these are the only psychic abilities that i can truely say i fully believe in.... though i have aquaintances that can do other amazing things.
im very optimistic and il believe anything if through study i can prove that it is true.

So Sess...did you have these abilities BEFORE studying them? Or did you practice them AFTER studying them? Are you saying any person can do the things you described and more if a person just studies it enough and practices and can learn to control their thoughts?
Fire sensing....like how Arwen? Like far away from the fire, like you could be at work and then realize there's a fire going on 5 miles away....or sensing like you see smoke coming from a building and you know a fire is causing it? How far can you sense it? What happens and how do you know it only applies to fire?

no heh when Xen said sensing he meant he can sense how powerful a person was so he knows there no one as powerful as teh x-men are.
sensing energy signatures is wot im learning like learning a persons energy signature so you can tell when they're at your house, behind you or signing on the net. i learnt MW's yesterday felt his just before he signed on.
but technically if you're good enough theres no reason why you shouldnt be able to sense if theres a fire... but then empathy could also tell you if you can use it that far away like feeling you're choking on smoke etc.

hmm....i guess it could also be interpreted (energy reading) like seeing a person's aura or whatever. I have a friend who swears up and down she see's people's aura's...but she is also an attention-slut unfortunately.
arwenpotter
Oct 31 2004, 01:39 PM
hmmm bad luck aboot your friend.. the only problem is she might actually be able to do it but unfortunately becoz of her history she might not be believed.. ironically a bit like the boy who cried wolf...
well its not really seeing an aura becoz you dont actually see anything you feel it and it just comes by focusing on a person in sight to start then a name then anyone..

Well is shadowcat and rogues power real? like can people really phase? (phase: going through solid objects--i think) Or can people steal other peoples abilities with a single touch like rogue? Like if someone had rogues powers they can touch a strong person and then that person will become strong, but its only temporary... I like both of there powers

But im just wondering if its possible cuz if it is YaY

Well, there are reports of people being able to see what's on the other side of walls or things....if that's possible...why wouldn't walking through walls be possible?

ah i get where your going with phasing now sirius

well you can "phase" in remote presence but then that technically doesnt count since its only a astral copy of you. but then if you advanced enough at that i dont see why theres no reason you couldnt.. after all RP lets you go all the way to like Usa and Aus...
