You know there a lot of short people in our world The gene had to come from somewhere. I don't doubt any of this. Besides, as humans evolve, they are becoming taller and taller. So we had to all be shorter than the average we are now.

They still do have pygmies that live in Indonesia. But they grow to 4 to 4 1/2 feet tall.

My Daoughter-in-Law only stands about 5 feet tall and my son says she has all her parts. I dont think she is part of a differant speices. Id have to see the DNA tests first before making any claims.

There was a thread that discussed this, Hobbits in the family tree. This is just like this situation. There was a family like of apes that had a dominant gene of shortness. S = short, t = tall. S would be the dominant. If you have a t in the "tribe", that person would be considered for their recessive gene to be dominant over the dominant gene, considered as a mutant.

I hope the thread starter realises that Dwarfism is a real affliction, known throughout history.

I think the thread starter simply didn't know how to refer to little people. The "dwarves" as he calls them are actually a new species dubbed Homo floresiensis named after the island of Flores in Indonesia where they were discovered. Species becoming smaller is quite common when isolated on an island (pygmy hippo, pygmy rhino, etc.) so this is not at all surprising. I think the comparisons to hobbits is simply poor reporting, trying to give the general public a sort of comparison point. The big "to do" now is over how they belong to, the Aussies who dug them up or the Indonesians. And Nightmoon's reference to "dragon fossils" (notice the quotes), I think was an obvious reference to dinosaurs.

Isn't there a legend about a race of little people in the American Southwest? In fact, I'm thinking a prospector found some remains back in the 1800s, but they subsequently disappeared.

Also, there's the Hawaiian legend of the Menehune, who are a race of dwarves. And all the dwarves, elves, fairies, and leprechauns of Western mythology. I remember reading somewhere when I was very young that most myths are built around a grain of truth.

Did you that when Mount St. helen's exploded last, the radio carbon dating of the event stated that the event happened 1 million years ago? Look it up.
