The Council of Nine

The picture was taken in 1959 by a Belgium helicopter pilot, Col. Remy Van Lierde, while on patrol over the congo. The snake he saw measured approximately 40 to 50 feet in length, dark brown/green with a white belly. It had triangle shaped jaws and a head about 3 ft x 2 ft. Experts have analyzed the pictures and have verified them as authentic. They also have verified the size of the creature by matching ground features to the snake. As the helicopter flew in lower the snake raised up 10 feet and looked as if it would strike at the helicopter if they flew any closer.

Well what do you think...?

CoN,

Here's a link to a big thread from last year, discussing the possibilities of the Giant Anaconda and other large snakes :

[ Here ]

I think that picture is also discussed in there somewhere, I'm not sure what the verdict was in the end.

Cheers - I have to make sure I look at all the archived posts before I start a thread in future.

Lol C.O.N. it takes a while to go through all of them . Sometimes putting up a new thread can breath life into the old one .
Interesting pic though , I watched a documentary once ( I start a lot of stuff this way) where they where looking for the giant anaconda , they found tracks that could possibly have come frome one, but then again it could just have been a really good sized anaconda that was still digesting a sizable meal .

I like that thread too. Malcolm was cool, and I enjoyed reading his posts. He really gets excited about the anaconda smile.gif

ohmy.gif it was good reading that again although I am not going near a snake that big.... laugh.gif
Bizarro
so whatever happened to that Malcolm character? he seems cool.

The last I heard from Malcolm, he'd set off to the Amazon rainforest to search for evidence of the Giant Anaconda, and that was some time ago.

I don't think he's ever returned since. I wonder how he got on. unsure.gif

Oooohhh I hope it's not because the giant snake found Malcolm first ph34r.gif

When I started reading the archived posts, Malcolm kept on refering to the giant anaconda as a "disgusting" creature. At first I was a bit confused as to why he would descibe the creature as disgusting, but once I started reading the posts in the depth I soon realised what he was feeling. It wasn't the shape, or colour or overall appeareance of the snake, it was just the question of the sheer enormity of the thing. I didn't appreciate it, until I got my arms around in a circle, creating the approximate diameter that was described in the posts, just thinking of something that huge is sickening, to imagining it slithering around in the mud it with its massive head... ugggg sad.gif .

Did anyone ever hear that story late last year out of SE Asia about how a snake (python I believe) was found and was only a few inches shy of fifty feet? Has this story been proven a hoax or true or what?

Not that I've heard. I think the record for snake length is still 33 feet for a reticulated python. If a lengthe of 50 feet was verified, it would make headlines all over!
Remember, 33 feet is pretty freaking long! If you saw that python crawling onto your front lawn, you'd soil yourself!

'you'd soil youself'

I most certainly would.

I think everyone would soil themselves. I saw a 25 foot reticulated python at an australian zoo and i soiled myself right then and there lol.

How does a zookeeper tend to a 25 foot python?
Very carefully!
