I witnessed the Northern Lights one rainy summers light just over a year ago. It was beautiful, purples and blues and greens and yellows. I stood in a big field watching for hours. Then the rainstorm hit, and it wasn't so pretty after that.
Awesome pictures.

I saw one yesterday, they were amazing, the sky was clear i could see the constellation of Orion, it was simply amazing, to see a starlite night on a metropolitan backround.
here's a pic i took, i was kinda off focus but the battery was low and it was cold.
I completely filed the horizon.!

That's still a good picture. Very nice.
The 'waves' in the Auora Boreallis are what i like the most. Gives the lights a short of shimmering effect, like fish swimming in a shallow reef.

Nice pics, guys. I have not seen an auora for ten years or more. I would like to see the lights again someday but I live too far south. So for now I rely on your pics. Keep them comming.

My neighbour called me outside to look at it, and apparently he was seeing blues and reds and such, but when I go outside I couldn't see anything, or very little of it. Do you know if I could still see it, and when (Cause I don't feel like standing in the cold for hours looking for it) or was it just a showing for this week?

I saw them for the first time in my life early Monday morning (2:30am EST) Why it was amazing to me was I saw them in the city. I was awestuck.
***Firefemme I live in Toronto thats where I saw them. Usually there is too much light pollution to see them here.

I live in Ottawa, which is what Dot, 5 hours drive northeast of Toronto?
I've seen them twice in my 5 years here. Once in the city, a beautiful green right above. And one about 45 mins north of the city in the middle of the woods, which is what i explained above.

My sister said that at about 11pm last night she saw the Southern Lights. We aren't acutally meant to get them so it's amazing. It was only in the South Island, not the North Island (she's at university down there).
I'm so jealous of her and all of you that you get to see such a brilliant thing. it's one of the things I want to see at least once in my life.

I used to love to watch the northern lights...but since i live so close to the artic circle now i see them all the time. i think im the only one here who still stops to look at them.
the only problem, is its soooo cold you never get to stay out watching them very long.
definitely something every one must see.

Yes it is Burnside. I am envious you've seen them twice.
I heard on the news that they were visible as far south as Oklahoma and depending on weather conditions they will be frequently visible for 3 weeks.
I've been looking for them everynight since.

Up here in the north

nothern lights are kinda easy to see. Still, I know people that live in Finland for 14 years and still haven't seen. On the other hand, I live here for 2 years and I have seen them in various occasions. The most spectacular one was last winter, when the sky was filled from one side to the other with mostly green flashes, but also pink and bluish..It was just amazing.

burnsey, you missed a good show, i live way out the east end of ottawa and was able to see them sunday the 7th, and the following monday and tuesday. it was one of the best show's i've ever seen and i have seen some good sessions of northern lights.
sunday was best, it seemed to right out of the sky above us and then stream down into the northern shy, aqua blue and green,
too bad you missed it.

Weird. I live in the east end too. You're in Orleans? I'm just off downtown. The light pollution this close to town doens't help viewing the lights.
