Has anyone ever heard of these elephants?
They are suppose to be a new specie of elephants, living only on Borneo.
They have been seperated from their Asian relatives some 300,000 years ago.
They are much smaller, have bigger ears, and longer tails.
There are only 1,000 of this specie.
They have been discovered very recently, declared a speicie only in 2003.

yeah, they've been denying that pygmie elephants exist. they said they were just adult elephants with some kind of growth disease. Scientists are so lame. For such smart people, you think they'd be able to make up excuses that were a little less childish.

These were discovered a long time ago. What is news is that they are finally "officially" recognize as a different and separate species.

It was National Geographic people that first stated they may be different species, but due to many factors they were just thought to be Asian elephants.

It did take a few years for the scientific community to research claims of elephants in Borneo. wacko.gif

QUOTE
Borneo's elephants were classified as separate sub-species in 1935. But researchers later reclassified the elephants as members of either the Sumatran or Indian sub-species on the premise that they weren't morphologically, or physically, distinctive enough to warrant a separate grouping.
