American researchers claim to have found convincing evidence that locates the site of the lost kingdom of Atlantis off the coast of Cyprus. The team spent six days scanning the Mediterranean sea bed between Cyprus and Syria using sonar technology. They believe they found evidence of massive, manmade structures beneath the ocean floor, including two straight, 2-km (1.25 mile) long walls on a hill. They say their discoveries match accounts of the city written by Plato. Team leader Robert Sarmast said the walls appear to be sited on a flat-topped hill where the temples of Atlantis once stood. He intends to use the sonar data to make a three-dimensional computer image of the site, 1.5km below sea level, before returning for further research. "The hill, as a whole, basically looks like a walled, hillside territory and this hillside territory matches Plato's description of the Acropolis hill with perfect precision," he said.
"Even the dimensions are exactly perfect, so if all these things are coincidental, I mean, we have the world's greatest coincidence going on." However, Mr Sarmast and his team are not alone in believing they have found the lost city of Atlantis.

Ok, so its a neat find, I admit that... But in all the graphic dipictions of how Atlantis was layed out, it always is in circles... (like the B&W photo in the full story)... Those sonar images don't look like round? Im lost! ... Haha... So is Atlantis!

Anyway, this seems to be very solid proof. I hope they find it so they can spend more time on Bigfoot.

Wonders if it's true,
There are around the world probably many places that can match Plato's descriptions.
I wait for better proof for this myth.

I have been fascinated by the legend of Atlantis ever since i was, like, 1.5 years old. I hope it's not Atlantis.

I hope it is Atlantis. So much speculation has been placed in all the theories linked with Atlantis. Whether the Atlanteans help built the pyramids, or orichalcum, the magical source of energy they produced which have been speculated to power large machines and robots (according to some lines of investigation, links to follow though...). If all that had been attributed to Atlantis is true, and we finally have found it then we can possibly be looking at a new age for mankind. I can't wait for all of this!!!!!!

Or, Atlantis was just another civilization, but sadly enough, they were in the wrong place at the wrong time, no Robots, machines, but another normal civ.

LOL! Lets just hope that at least they have found a major ancient city, lost beneath the waves for countless years, not atlantis but still an amazing discover, but if this is atlantis, just imagine what can finally be proven or dissproven.

I'd like to see what exactly is on the other side of the "Acropolis Hill". The other should match the side we see. It may not have been an actual circular-shaped city but an oval.
I don't see any other walls... degradation maybe...

I hope that these strcutures are indeed 10,000+ years old... that would make human civilization much earlier, and opens up new possibilities to when our civilization started.

Im surprised they are boasting such claims already. I feel we need more "proof" that this in fact is the lost city of Atlantis. Im sure there are other undiscovered lost civilizations covered by bodies of water.

I'd love to think that this was finally it, but to my untrained eye it just looks like the hillside slid down and pushed up that ridge at the bottom.
When they start bringing up artifacts from the bottom then I'll start to get excited.

An American researcher discovered man-made walls underwater 50 miles southeast of Cyprus. The remains fit Plato's description of Atlantis. Cyprus' chief government archaeologist is still skeptical, though. There are hopes to uncover more from the remains in the future.

This seems to remind me of the "We've set out to find proof of alien involvement in Siberia, and we've found it" expedition.
