I've been reading up on Mossad lately and I'm confused on whether they are a friend or something that should not be trusted. I read they tried to warn us about 9/11 but at the same time we know that they have been spying on us. So whats the deal?

As an Israeli, I can tell you that there is no friend or foe in the intelligence bussines.
It's like asking - is the MI6 a friend to the US, or not?
The truth is, that the MI6, KGB (in the times of the USSR), Mossad and NSA are just doing what's in their country's interest.
So the real question should be - is Israel a friend of the US, or a foe.
To that I can answer you without any doubt - the US is considered by all Israelis, from the far left to the far right, as Israel's best friend and ally.
Israeli culture is very influenced from American culture, the most popular movies in Israel are American, not European ones.
Hebrew picked alot of American english words, and virtually all Israelis know english (and American slang).
It goes so far into that, that many Israelis call Israel the 51th state of America tongue.gif.

Ofcourse there is also some issues of disagreement, like the fact that America tells us what to do all the time, but it's more of a political issue then a cultural one.

What is this post doing in Ancient mysteries and alternative history anyway?
Shouldn't it be in world politics?

Dealings with Mossad (whether by friend or FOE) can be ruthless! They are, in fact, one of the most disciplined and deadly adversaries one can encounter - especially during the Cold War. They HAVE been dedicated ALLIES when it came to fighting Terrorism - but they oft times GUARD their OWN Intelligence for the simple fact that many of our OWN Agencies have far too many "leaks".

They are in it for the TOTAL and defined desperate survival of Israel - and will stop at nothing to defend that role. They DID try to warn us MANY YEARS and shortly
before 9/11 - but our own Internal (inter-departmental) disputes negated much of the VALUED info from reaching the proper authorities for action.

Their Agents are dedicated and take far more risks in their "missions" - but if caught they are left out in the cold with no recognition. We have seen the actions of this Agency many times through the years .. Entebbe (air port rescue) was a HIGHLIGHT
= and the "Hit Squads" after Munich showed they would neither stop at nothing for "revenge" - nor leave no stone unturned in gathering the necessary intelligence for their mission(s).

By and large -- they are MORE our ally than anything - and assigned to ANY Country with an Intelligence Operative (and Field Agents) - will "go the edge" for their OWN Country FIRST. I have the deepest respect for Mossad - and especially with the few agents I met with during my own duty in the Middle East.

So the mossad is better informed then the cia...I must say I find that hard to believe...

The CIA is seriously hampered by risk-averse, career-minded managers. It's an institutional culture that will take a long time to change.

While the US and Israel are to some extent ideological allies, the Mossad ultimately looks out for the interests of the government it serves above all other things. We spy on them and they spy on us(by "us" I mean the United States). Even allies spy on one another. That's not unusual.

And so does the CIA... actually, this is true to any intelligence organization.
If it wasn't, than all those agents would have been charged on treason tongue.gif.

True, nothing unusuall about it.
There are no friends or foes in the world of aspionage.
Only national interests.
