A lot of people are skeptical about aliens, but qualified astronomers think otherwise. One of these astronomers, Seth Shostak -- an astronomer at the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) -- believes we will make contact with the little green men by 2025. He says we will make this connection by either light signals from our increasingly powerful telescopes or by broadcast waves. Still, Shostak says there is "no possibility" of us and aliens coming face to face "a la" "Mars Attacks" in the near future. That's because "it's so difficult to travel between the stars" in a short amount of time, Shostak says, and no matter what kind of technology we or the aliens ever possess, you still "can't beat the laws of physics."

Shostak's claim, and those of other astronomers, will be seen on an upcoming documentary, "Naked Science: Alien Contact", which airs Nov. 24 on the National Geographic Channel.

That would be nice...of course if Norman is correct, the aliens would be jesus and his crew riding in on space Harleys...eh...who knows...

I think it would be good to finally get to know the truth of that matter. One could only hope that the aliens are better people than we are, as looking back on human history every time a more advanced civilization contacts a less civilized group, things generally don't turn out too well for the lesser advanced group...

Let's just hope we contact nice aliens like in E.T. and not the aliens that were in Aliens, I would hate to get molested by a big slimy thing and then have a little monster pop out of my chest over dinner...it kind of ruins your day I would imagine...

May be the aliens will surprise us not by technology but other areas (like mind power) we'll be caught so off guard if thats the case and they are hostile.



I will begin to make tinfoil hats so by 2025 I would be able to sell millions.

I imagine contact will be sooner than that and in a way that people will be unprepared for the event.

I agree that communication through light transmissions using the right spectrum would make communication more accessible.

Radio communications is too slow and the relays back to Earth are far too slow. Light moves faster and the higher the spectrum and the frequency of the spectrum could quite easily lead to a much better and faster result.

However 2025, is only a speculative date. It could be in the much nearer future.

*shudders*, I saw that movie (Alien)when I was 7 years old and it scared the HELL out of me. The second one (Aliens) is my favorite one and I was a little older so I actually enjoyed it......

Acid for blood, bursting through your chest......

But really, I think we have already received 'some' type of contact with aliens, especially with the "WOW" signal received in Ohio decades ago...

Well only time will tell, hopefull we do have some sort of communciation or contact with them in the near future and 2025 is`nt really that far away. Hopefully teh human race reacts rationally and doesn`t do anything too stupid when contact finally occurs, jeopardizing our realtions with these creatures and our species safety!

Very true Stellar, it may not be for centuries even, the universe is a very big place and I wouldn`t expect there to be two different intelligent species in the same region in space or anywhere near ech other!
But hopefully its sooner rather than later!

Maybe we're under the protection of some advanced culture, interested in how we evolve our culture(s) on our own, without any outside influence. If that's the case then we won't hear from them untill we are ready. Kinda like Star Trek eh?

Why do people always assume that because we haven't developed any form of "warp" and that we've deemed it "impossible" that other, more advanced races, haven't figured it out?



Or under quarantine. Deemed a threat to the rest of the universe. Our ridiculous beliefs, violent nature and unpredictability could frighten other races.

Perhaps a UN or NATO type inter-galactic organization has voted to keep us under control. Who knows, maybe we'd have progressed further, maybe they're slowing us down somehow.

Just theories on my part...I don't really believe it, it's fun to think on it though.
