This is a picture I took from my trip there...I'll see if I can get the others uploaded.

It's pretty amazing IMO. Here we have a tower that's practacally a blunder, though has become famous for that reason. Guess we love our quirks eh.

Its an amazing structure, I agree. Here is some info on it if anyone is interested along with the website.

The Tower of Pisa is the bell tower of the Cathedral. Its construction began in the august of 1173 and continued (with two long interruptions)  for about two hundred years, in full fidelity to the original project, whose architect is still uncertain.

In the past it was widely believed that the inclination of the Tower was part of the project ever since its beginning, but now we  know that it is not so. The Tower was designed to be "vertical" (and even if it did not lean it would still be one of the most remarkable bell towers in Europe), and started to incline during its construction.

Both because of its inclination, and its beauty, from 1173 up to the present the Tower has been the object of very special attention. During its construction efforts were made to halt the incipient inclination through the use of special construction devices; later colums and other damaged parts were substituted in more than one occasion; today, interventions are being carried out within the sub-soil in order to significantly reduce the inclination and to make sure that Tower will have a long life.

In all this story it is possible to find a meaningful constant, the "genetic code" of the Tower: its continual interaction with the soil   on which it was built. Today's (1999) works for the safeguard and the conservation of the Tower with very advanced methodologies are designed to fully respect this constant.

Pisa is great looking with it's great sculpture surrounding the edges much like other works of that era, but if your into leaning towers you should see Montreal Tower, 45 degrees of incline. In the Xmas season santa runs down the edge to "start" the festivities.

It main function is to hold the stadiums canvas roof, but it also have and observation deck, a convention room and a (ratter small) "museum".
Cronos
I was in Pisa last Easter with my graduating class. I was also suffering from a weird Italian illness that no one couldn't pinpoint. Apparently, I became delerious one night and started crying and screaming profanities out of the pain. I don't remember doing that, I just remember being in the most pain I've ever been in.

Anyhow, when I was at Pisa the tour guide said that Pisa theoretically could fall anytime as it is sinking into the marshland it has been built on at an alarming rate.

Also, if the bells on top of the tower are rung simultaneously, the whole structure will fall due to the vibrations. They have to be careful not to synchronize the bells and only a few people can be let onto the towers at a time because if the vibrations from steps created by the tourist's feet are synchronized to a certain degree, the structure will fall.

In truth, The Tower of Pisa is a giant physics problem from Hell that could destroy itself a myriad of ways. We just have to leave it to the locals to make sure it doesn't.

I found the church where Galileo was buried more exciting than The Tower of Pisa. He is in a see-through coffin so you can see the rotting thing that is Galileo. He has quite the beard going on. Although that church is sinking too.

By the way, Italian girls are really freaking hot if you already didn't know that.

I took a picture of the church...at least I think so, its the only thing near the Leaning Tower that resembles one.
