user posted image rWhen the Cassini-Huygens spacecraft completes its journey to Saturn's moon Titan in January, its probe will boldly blast rock 'n' roll music where none has been heard before. The spacecraft is carrying a 14-minute CD loaded with music from two little-known French artists who will have the honour of broadcasting their music to any alien ears. But earthlings will be able to bop along to the tunes on the website www.music2titan.com from 22 December, Australian time, as they follow the mission online. The French musicians, Julien Civange and Louis Haeri, were contacted to provide a cultural aspect to the Cassini-Huygens mission."The European Space Agency wanted to add artistic content to the mission, to leave some trace of humanity in the unknown and send a sign to any possible extraterrestrial populations," Civange said. "It's wicked!" the 33-year-old musician said."When you create something, it's important to find new ways of expressing yourself. But this ... is a totally vertical way of doing that." The only condition the European Space Agency gave the musicians was that the tracks had to have no words. The first, 'Lalala', gives the basic chords of rock and was inspired by photos provided by ESA, Civange said. The second track, 'Bald James Deans', refers to the separation of the Huygens probe from Cassini in mid-December, conjuring up dual visions of the U.S. film icon speeding off in different directions in the stellar void.

The Huygens probe is to descend onto Titan's surface by parachute in mid-January to carry out its experiments while the Cassini craft continues its fly-by of Saturn's 30-odd moons. The third track on the CD, 'Hot Time', is an artistic piece meant to reflect the exploration of Titan. And the last tune, 'No Love', channels Civange's preferred sci-fi author Philip K Dick by evoking questions about what space travel means.

huh.gif That's interesting. This is the first time that I heard a 33 year old say "That's Wicked!" I hope that our little alien friends like rock music!
Q-La
IMO rock music is warlike to a new ear. But that's just my human perception I think.
BurnSide
At least it's an acurate representation of modern day earth.
Stellar
Watch the aliens pick up the broadcast and dismiss it as background noise due to it being incoherent grin2.gif
AztecInca
LOL! Thet will probably hear it and have no idea what it is and just dismiss it like Stellar said, but with the beat and stuff they should be able to work out that its artifical and has been created by some other being, hopefully!
TooFarGone
Im just hoping its not that goth-nu-black-satanic-metal crap
Boo_ Boi
