Don't know if this is in the right topic, but since she's on TV. tongue.gif

who thinks she really is what she is? Sometimes I would think its a joke, you know. On the Montel show. But when I saw the special 2500th episode, they showed predictions to what actually became true. Like the one comedian dieing that one year, ended up being...ah. Whats his name, he was in "threes company".

Anyway, I really believe she is real. She just seems to know what she's talking about. I have seen these shows liek the pet psychic. Which really seems fake.

Lets get this topic going. original.gif
Stellar
Yeah umm... I'll make a prediction too: "Very soon, another high end terrorist leader will die!"

HowdyDoo
I've read most of Sylvia's books. I find her interesting and her theories intriguing. Some of her ideas hit home and strike a cord of truth in me. Others are so out there that I find them laughable.

I think she is sincere. I think she is gifted. I also think she might be a little wacko, like some other extremely gifted people.

You'd enjoy reading her books, I think, especially her life story.

I guess you just have to use your common sense on a lot of things concerning Sylvia.

Yeah. She does shock me with a few things here and there. Mostly the unexplained mysteries (crop circles..etc) that she is willing to tell us about. I'm going to a local show next year. original.gif
BurnSide
I'd lump her together with Ms. Cleo and every other 'psychic' taking idiots money.
Here's my prediction: 'One day, you'll get married and have children'.

OOOoooo, i'm a psychic!!
smallpackage

You don't have to be such a sarcastic b****. You know that? If you ever come across her show, you'd see. tongue.gif
BurnSide
Jeeze, lighten up man.
And as fortune would have it, i've watched her show many times and i think that anyone who could be fooled by such things deserves to have their money taken away.
smallpackage

How is she really fooling you? Get into detail here. For some reason she seems to picture people that they know, without meeting them. Also, what about all the predictions? In 1992 she claimed that Arnold Shwartzineg...(oh god I hate his last name)
would run for some political stance. And in 2003 he did. Explain that?
BurnSide
Schwartznegger. He was planning to go into politics since before his first movie was even made, he just made a career out of movies instead and moved to politics when he felt he had enough support and money. Nothing particularly amazing about predicting a man will go into politics when he said he would several times. laugh.gif

Anyway, you asked for opinions and you got mine. You said yourself you think it's a joke sometimes. I think she uses a combination of actors, background checks and logical deductive thinking, nothing more.
smallpackage
Edit; removed redundant quotes. Smallpackage, there's no reason to copy the entire text of the post above you into your response.

true. You do give a few good points. I do remember seeing on TV, where they have actors go into the crowd and start talking to people, before the show starts. Asking why their here and all..then suddenly go to the bathroom or something similar. (actually telling who they were talking to so they can point them out when they raise their hand)

Well for now I still believe she is real. When I go to her show, I will keep my mouth shut and see what happens.
BurnSide
I dunno, it would be interesting to see if you could, i dunno, get picked to have a reading and see what happens. Either way like her or not it's real cool that you're going to a show!
Tess
I have tried to read some of Sylvia's books and....well, they're a little strange. So strange,in fact, that i wasn't able to finish reading them.I am really interested in psychic abilities, the afterlife, etc.,but some of the things she says sound too weird to be believable.
Great Big Sea
I'm glad that you like her books Smallpackage me too and I like to read John Edwards books when I get the time after my mystery books.

Here's my perdiction: This is going to turn into a BIG debate and will probably be locked.

But I think we should be at least a little open about these sort of things. If you think psychic's are BS then fine, by me. But if they come to your house and they find you as a ghost standing there that would be pretty ironic now wouldn't it?
Deimos
The only reason I know her is becasue she comes on Montel Williams(I love that show)

HI,

Slyvia Browne is a fake..... her predictions are either extremely vague or they fail entirely and her claim that she works with the police on solving missing persons crimes is an outright lie.

Heres an example of her work...

QUOTE
Let's look back to just one particularly cruel hoax perpetrated by this woman Browne. Years ago on Montel Williams' show, she spoke to the grandmother of a local missing child, a six-year-old named Opal Jo Jennings who disappeared from her home in north Texas in March of 1999. Browne told the distraught woman that the child was still alive but had been sold into white slavery and was currently being held in Japan. She even gave a city name, but there is no such city in Japan. Moving ahead three years and nine months, we find that the body of little Opal was recovered — just seven weeks ago; she had been killed by a blow to the head. Currently, there is a man in prison in Texas who has confessed to, and been convicted of, Opal Jo's abduction and murder.

Cruel or what??

The problem with people like Ms. Browne is only her correct predictions get talked about! for every correct or near correct prediction there are three more incorrect. I doubt her gift is anywhere near what she claims or as spontanous as it appears on Montel
zukie&jim
cat.gif yea-- what they all do is make 1,000s of predictions , then just go on and on about the handful that come out in the wash--then forget the thousands that were way off.

i also think the --folks that keep communicating with the dead on television are playing a scam . notice they do allot of talking--but never anything specific. wacko.gif

Hi all

I just really want to second what Teddy & Burny have already said.

It's a sad state of affairs when people are willing to part with large sums of cash to get 'predictions' from this sort of person.
We have already seen that James Van Prat & John Edwards have been exposed as fraudulent 'cold readers', and Sylivia Browne is another.
I know how much people yearn to have questions answered. I know the pain of loosing a loved-one and wanting some closure or comfort from them, to know that they are safe and out of pain. But sadly we are ideal targets for these greif-mongers.
I found tens of articles written on Ms Browne, most of them too offensive to C&P, but here is a little snippet from one ~

'... Sylvia Browne is no stranger to taking money for her 'predictions' and 'readings' as she calls them. Her web site even has fees listed. Unless I was skimming her site too fast, I could've sworn it costs $700 to PHONE Sylvia and have her give you your 'reading' - $700? Who pays these ungodly fees? Why the rich, the famous and the desperate do, naturally. Sylvia preys on the rich especially. Funny... pay $700 and get 'quick fix answers' to all your life's problems. I find it to be a sham, period. I don't recall Jesus requiring payment before preaching, teaching or telling prophecy. Do you?

Sylvia's son, who's name is Christopher if I recall, is also an alleged "psychic", too. His fees, of course being younger, and 'less experienced' in fraud, I mean, readings, is only $350. Wow, what a bargain! Half his mother's age, half her experience - so naturally, half the price! What a real 'steal' of a deal, eh? Sure, don't buy food for your kids - knock a $700 or $350 dent in your credit card, by calling a couple of phoney 'psychics' instead. Right?'

'If psychics ARE capable of telling the future... why don't they call you, before you call them?'

There are a few famous Psychics doing the rounds in the UK at the moment. I know some girls in my local salon (I was planning to do a beauty therapy course but never managed to raise enough cash) always ask me about how the book is going or what new stories I have. They were delighted to be able to get tickets for one of these Psychics. When I saw them last week they were bitterly disappionted. They said the whole thing 'felt like a set-up'. Apparantly he spent the entire night talking to a woman in the audience who claimed that she was also a medium. I wont name the man in question............but Teddy knows him well.........and has asked him about his trumpet-playing abilities grin2.gif

That said - I am sure that there are many genuine people out there who have got a gift..........but accept no payment and shun publicity.

Does anyone remember the prediction she made in 1999 at the end of a show? Montel asked her at the end of the show, very quickly, "who is going to be the next president?". Sylvia replied "Al Gore" ROFL

She did manage to predict that Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston would break up....but the tabloids were already on to him having a fling with Angelina....so I don't think it was a stretch for her to guess that Brad and Jen would break up.

If you notice, she always takes pieces of information from what she has been told either on the current story or a previous story.

Example: on a recent show they showed a young boy being attacked by 4 dogs after he had returned home from church....sylvia says that he also had 4 arch angels that saved him.

Also, she keeps mentioning hurricanes in Florida. Well it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that Florida sits right in hurricane alley and is one (if not THE) most likely state to suffer the most direct hits from a hurricane. Florida also faces a double threat because it can get hit from either the Gulf side or the Atlantic side. It doesn't take a major gift to predict this.

I also believe there are gifted people, but sylvia is milking this for the $$$$. Another thing, she claims to work with Priests and Nons all the time, but the last time I checked, making predictions is a major Sin and I doubt clergy would be participating in these activities.

I watch, as I think many do, for the entertainment value. We all want to believe in the afterlife, and I do, but people like Sylvia are just blowing smoke up your chimney. The best way is through religion/faith/spirituality and doing everything you can to make this world a better place for everyone.

Just my two cents.

I like some of her books. Some of the info is revelant ot me, but some of it isn't. To me religiona nd beliefs are a personal path, but along the way you should listen to what others have to say. You then chose to believe or PEACEFULLY walk away. I think everyone has something to teach as well as something to learn.

I used to be completely and utterly obsessed with Slyvia Brown. I basically worshiped the woman and everything that came out of her mouth...That is until I was half-way through one of her books, when she decided to inform me that at some point rooves would open to allow in the family hover craft.

That was the end of it for me. yes.gif

I haven't read any books by Sylvia but I've seen her numerous times on the Montel show and I have to say, her comments oh how heaven is 3 feet above the floor were out there for me. She is in no way blunt when It comes to telling people what she knows either. For example...

Sylvia: You had a question?
Woman in the Audience: Yes, For the lonnngest time, I've been searching for my father and wanting to find out who he...
Sylivia: You don't want to know...
Woman in the Audience: I...oh.....okay...

I felt so sorry for her dontgetit.gif .

I just can't help being a little unsure about Sylvia Browne.
But then again I am a bit skeptical about all those "psychic's" out there. tongue.gif
I am just one of those people that want to have proof that it is real.
I have watched Sylvia on Montel, and only a few times I thought,"Ok,...how did she know that? Maybe she is for real?"
Then she will turn around and say things that anyone would say to a person who is trying to get a reaction out of them to find out the truth.
So,... I am unsure as to whether to believe her or not, hmm.gif although I would love to find a "REAL" psychic who could tell me a few things that I would like to know about my life (past and future). thumbsup.gif

I think that she meant that they were in another dimension, with that comment.

Some things I have agreed with. Most not. After all, true psychics do not charge 750.00 a call, and most don't charge and a lot help the police without payment. A simple thank you suffices.

Besides, Sylvia, whom I have seen in person, reminds me of David Lee Roth on a bad day.
openmind1963
she does'nt impress me much at all.i think she's a complete and total phoney.some sheriff's deputies from here asked her for help once on a triple murder, she basically told them if they wanted to talk to her to get in line with all the others and compensate her!!!!

I personally think she is a fraud. By fraud I mean she engages in fraudulant practices. Im sure she has some measure of ability, such as preminitions and perhaps empathy,as most humans do. Most of the stuff that comes out of her mouth is sheer rubbish. I think she has found a nitch that allows her to say whatever she wants and be damned if she appears off her head. She is mystical and therefore we just dont understand, and not the obvious reason of her being full of it. This women has made a living on preying on human sorrow. Now that in any form is deplorable. If she truely had a gift she would give her services for free and live on donations etc. IMO she is a fraudymcfraudpants.
Itzapapalotl
I think shes the real deal but i really don't like her. She seems like a pushy know-it-all. But then again if i were a psychic id prolly be the same way.
The Skeptic Eric Raven
She is a pitiful fraud that dupes people out of their money. Montel Williams should be ashamed of himself for promoting her.
coldethyl
And she absolutely needs a lozenge. Her voice gives me the serious heebie-jeebies.

I totally agree! thumbsup.gif
I'm surprised her attitude hasn't gotten her told off by now.
I don't remember which show it was, or even what was being said at the time (I don't hardly ever watch her on Montel), but an older man & woman asked Sylvia a question about their young twenty something year old son, who had recently passed away in an auto accident.
Sylvia was actually snobby, and told the poor grieving man & woman that their son was glad to be dead!
Sylvia said something about he was unhappy here (being alive and !) and had been unhappy with his parents! disgust.gif
It broke the old man and woman's heart!!! crying.gif
I thought,... "My God!! She could have been nicer about it!!" angry.gif
bamadeb
Ms. Cleo was a fraud but as for Sylvia I do think she is really gifted. The problem with psychics is that they are less credible if they profit from the gift they have. I have watched her and read one of her books about Ancient Mysteries and believe she has valid visions.

If she was to donate her gift instead of selling books and charging for readings her reputation would be much better. I was always told a good psychic does not advertise.

oooh and yes she does need to work on her attitude.
SunnyOutlook
I'm glad I saw this topic. I'm actually accompanying my mother to see Sylvia Browne this Saturday. My mother is into this sort of thing and she insists I have some kind of gift. I'm going keeping an open mind with a dash of skepticism.
