Tenebra
I came across this picture in a book, and Lfesavr managed to find a copy of it online... not easily. I thought I'd share it and see what thoughts people have about it. Sorry we don't have a larger, clearer version.

It comes from Lydney Park, is from about 200 AD or so, and is associated with the god Nodens who seems to be a variation of Pan.

The design is similar to a Mesopotamian cylinder seal shown a short way above it on the page this came from: http://www.genesispark.com/genpark/ancient/ancient.htm

Either multiple cultures have come up with the long-neck idea out of artistic convenience, or they're basing this imagery on something.

EDIT: replaced with larger version of pic

Dragon legends would be something to base it on, I suppose. laugh.gif

I don't recall a lot by the way of dragons in Classical legends or mythology, though. There are a few, like the hundred-eyed one guarding the garden of the Hesperides (someone correct me if I'm mis-remembering, please), and the sea monster Perseus saves Andromeda from. They're all individual, unique creatures, I believe, rather than being seen as a type/species of animal.

I've seen some of those images, particularly the black stone with the dino etchings on it, proven fake. (I'm going to need to do a search on that again.) If I remember right, it was done by a group of right winged creationalist to try and prove that humans and dino's once walked together.

Others, like the aborigonal dream time pictures, could be true because marine dinosaurse could have lived passed the mass extintion for a bit longer.

Interesting Tenebra. A lot of ancient cultures show drawings that depict lock necked giants. This is one of many examples of these ancient works. Interesting indeed. I wonder how many ancient cultures encountered something like this?

To me i see it interesting that warrior hunter going out to battle those cultures, and what's ever happen to the bones!? Were they made into Domestic used!? dontgetit.gif

From what i've heard, they think its either, a chimera, a dragon , or a mok'le mom'be. Also in the stone template thing on that wall in Babalon I think it is, its supposed to be an ancient monster that gaurded something and it had a head on its tail so nothing could sneak up on it or sometyhing like that...

Keep in mind that other names for dragons are wurm, wyrm and firedrake. There are a goodly number of references to them in English mythology/folklore.

keep in mind if they did see these monsters, it would be human nature to assume that there was only one unless you saw several in the same place.

and what if this dinosaur had a defense mechanism like that? sorta like the butterfly that looks like it has eyes on it's wings to deter predators...cause we humans don't know what dinosaurs looked like with colors etc. (as far as i know) so it could have had a fake head on it's tail...it wouldn't surprise me
