Full Version: Eye in the Window

Last night my family and I attended a ghost tour in St. Augustine, Florida. We took 65 pictures with our digital camera. We got a few pictures of some ‘orbs’ but one picture in particular of an antique shop is really puzzling. Our guide told is that the shop is haunted and strange things happened there late at night and that no one ever dared to stay there overnight. After downloading the picture, we clearly saw a small bright object in one of the windows. Upon zooming in, it looked very much like an eye.

What does everyone else think?

Here's the picture:

Hahahahahahaha! That's funny! Why only an eye?

It looks more like glass reflecting the flash.

Eh, it's cool, I really have no bubble to burst. I believe in the spirit world, but I really don't think it's an eye. But it does kind of look like it. I just wonder what it really is.

My cousin was looking through our pictures from last night and found another interesting thing. This one baffles me, really. I was wondering how it could've happened with reflections or something, but nothing makes sense.

What do you think?

See the man's face?

I must add that this building in the picture was a mortuary at one time, and our guide told us how they used to display the dead bodies in the window.

wow...you guys obviously dont know very much about photography....id like to see you other pics from the role of film. I know exactly what that is. Look at the dood on the far right. AND look at the face. Sme guy, different pic. This is what we photographers call a double exposure. where u take a pic and the shutter catches dust or a particle of somesort, and the shutter inside the camera doesnt close completely, sometimes even a pinhole. this also prevents the slide to shift, so the next pic u take will be exposed a second time to the next pic. Basicaly making a 2nd transparrent immage ontop of your previous picture.

peace!

also the eye?

im sry im not callin u a liar, but the eye in the close up in not as pixellated as the rest of the pic. This leads me to beluieve it is doctored. A simple photoshop in a school comp lab could do this.
Rivendell
It's ok, I know the eye does like a little 'too perfect'. But I promise you, I did nothing with it. If I were photoshopping it, I'd sure as heck make it look better than that.

And about the double-exposure... does that happen with digital cameras? Sorry, I really don't know that much about photography.
Mad Manfred
Looks like there is a string attached to it.

It's either just a trick of the light, photoshopped or a hoax.
scipherel
I believed you didn't do it but someone is !
Tell that someone not to paste the face on the frame of the glass. laugh.gif

Holy crud balls. Why would you post the picture of the "eye" thing? If I put up every picture that had the slightest inperfection in it, I would spend the rest of my life doing it.
Wooddevil
It's the same thing with looking up at the clouds and making faces where none exist. Although it could be someone looking out at the photographer, It's probably just reflected light from a streetlight or something hanging on the inside near the glass.

Beat me to it. I was going to say, it doesn't match the lighting at all. Also is pixely.

If you heard earlier, a digital camera was used to take the photos, thus, as far as I know, making double exposure impossible since a digital camera does not use film, it just writes directly to the flash card, but I do agree it highly resembles the man on the far right, yet I have absolutely no idea how his face could have somehow shown up on the window without blurring the picture.

I did a little Photoshop work myself with the photo and another, and it is clear that the eye in infact as pixled as the rest of the picture, which would lean to it being a real, untouched picture.

The next photo, you can see how easy it is to doctor something into a picture to look real...an eye perhaps...and make it look very creepy. The third picture is the original color photo.
Marn
it does not look like a dble exposer on the second pic .. it does look like the guy standing beside everyone but it aint cause the guy standing there has his eyes closed and the face in the window has his eyes open ..and there heads are turned in diff directions ..
and the glowing eye looks like the same eye as the guys face in the window except his eyes are not glowing .. but they look like the same shape and looking in the same direction .. look at them again .. mayb this thing was following u guys around ..
thats just my opinion ..
and u cant get a dble exposer off a digital ..

Yes, it does look like the tour guide, yet the head is in a different position and the eyes seemed to be closed instead of open. And if it were a reflection, wouldn't have been the back of his head instead of his face? And about the double exposure, I didn't know if that could happen with digital cameras or not - so I'm glad you cleared that up. I'm just as skeptical as anyone - I try to think of every logical way these things could have happened.

Yes, a lot of people think that was photoshopped - but I can honestly tell you it wasn't. And besides, if I were photoshopping it, I would sure make it look better than that wink2.gif We are thinking of going back to that shop in the daytime and seeing what is in that window. Perhaps something reflective or prismatic? But it does look quite strange in the photo, and it does look different from the rest of the photo.
colorless
Well it IS an antique store, so it's probably some kind of reflective glass.

And the second picture is just plain weird. It's definitely the tour guide, but I don't see how that could have happened if the picture was taken with a digital camera.
ironjennyrackham
did that guy really have a hook for a hand?
Rivendell
Hahaha, yes! He did! At first I thought it was surely fake, but I realized it was genuine. And as you can see he hung his lantern on it, and it would creak as he walked along telling us ghost stories - it was all very neat.
ironjennyrackham
lol---i've been watching some shows that i taped over Halloween on the travel channel, and St Augustine is in quite a few of them---what were the places you went to?
Rivendell
We went to:

The Oldest Schoolhouse
Tolomato Cemetary
The Oldest Drugstore
Hugoenot Cemetary
Castillo de San Marcos (the fort)

And a few other minor places, like the antique shop, etc.

It was really interesting. Lots of neat stories.

I agree, the strangest thing is these photos surely has to be the hook man!!!! laugh.gif
seeking
they both look like photoshop hoaxes, the "eye" is way to clear compared the rest of the builiding and the face in the other pictures looks like a magnetic lasso of the man on the far right, cut and pasted into a new layer, flipped horizontally and then the transparency was set to a low number like 15 or something, then scaled to fit the pre-selected spot

Could have done it on paint, for God's sake.

just a reflection of the flash, or there is something shiny hanging inside the window

I think thats what it is.My mum has a crystal hanging in her kitchen by the window, light from the sun bounces through it and makes ya room look nice! rolleyes.gif
You can buy them from many shops,it coulda been one of them.? It looks like it has a string attached to it and is hanging in the shop window!!! Not really ghostly. sad.gif

The second photo of the huge head in the window has gotta be photoshopped! huh.gif
If not ,its quite impressive. ohmy.gif
