Seraphina
I know it's pretty old news now, but what the heck...I didn't actually go and see it in the cinema, but the Paisley bunch had a little get together last night, hired out some movies, and stayed up too late to possibly do anything constructive at our respective jobs the following day tongue.gif

Troy was one such movie and, as I did a quick search and didn't find any topic dedicated to it yet (unless I'm spelling it wrong blink.gif) I thought I'd start one grin2.gif

Didn't think it was that bad myself...obviously, it wasn't the exact mythology, but it came out pretty well grin2.gif To be honest though, that might be because my expectations of it were very low...I'd read a few reviews of it that said it was terrible, with Mr Pitt carrying the whole movie, using his broad shoulders and rock hard man nipples tongue.gif

So, for lack of anything else to do...anyone else seen it? Thoughts on it? It's obviously not a Lord of the Rings contender, or anything like it, but I'm 99% confident my liking of it had absolutely nothing to do with Brad Pitt tongue.gif

I throughy enjoyed this movie, I really thought it was done well, although not entirely historically accurate although no one is exactly sure about the history of this conflict or if it even happened!
Its never going to rival soemthing like lord of the like you said seraphina but its still a good movie that anyone could sit down and enjoy!
The war scenes were brilliant and I thought all the actors did alright and it wasn`t just Brad pitt carrying this movie alone.
Tia
I was surprised as well, I thought the movie would be boring but I enjoyed it. I actually preferred Eric Bana over Brad Pitt. grin2.gif wub.gif

Horrid movie.

Mundane performances, bad characterization (aside from Bana), historically inaccurate as well as a bad representation of a great book.

The actors, producers, editors, director and that untalented hack who pieced together that awful music should be strung up and shot.

Eh...It said " based on the book " , not recreation of the book.
Did you actually read Homeros' story ? The movie resembles the greatness of the Troyan war nicely, i think .
Athenian
The movie had nice eye candy and beautiful scenes but the story was a bit inaccurate and short. It would be nice if they showed the proper deaths of all the heros, And glorified all the characters and both sides equally. Troy was based too much on Achilles and his story.

I would have liked to see some of the things the movie left out, Like Ajax slaying a bunch of cows out of madness and then killing himself from the shame. It also needed more comedy in it, An example would be a few drunken Greek warrior comrades getting together and knocking on the gates of Troy at night and shouting taunts.

All in all, Most modern movies of historical events or figures are just crap covered by eye candy and computer animation.

Well, as a red blooded male, I'm 100% that my liking of it most certainly had nothing to do with Brad Pitt...Sera, however, is lying. She paid so much more attention when all the guys were running around with their shirts off...*sighs, and shakes his head*

I thought it was very good actually...Just like lotr did, you can't expect a movie to follow the plot of a book to the letter, just doesn't work that way. This was the kind of movie I could sit down, watch for a couple of hours, and enjoy...which is what counts.

Umm, did you? Doesn't seem like you have.
OlDrippy34
Yeah, I'm gonna have to agree. Troy completely butchered the Iliad and bits of the Aeneid. I did think Hector was played perfectly, and even looked how I'd always kind of envisioned him. As far as accuracy went...well, they got soem names right, which is good, I guess.

Can any one remember the 3 quotes Eric Banas character said.....

It was something to do with , A man must do 3 things in his life.
I can't remember what they were though.
Shadowsleet
um...I think the second one was "love his wife" or something like that, and the third was "defend his country", or words to that effect. No idea what the first was.

Oh an inspiring piece that made me weep /sarcasm.

"All of my life I have lived by a code and the code is simple: honor the gods, love your woman and defend your country. Troy is mother to us all. Fight for her!"

Que the cliche Hollywood "RAAAAARRRR" cheer.

I reckon this was one of the best movies of the year! I already bought it on DVD. Really, really good action scenes and great acting by Pitt, Bana and O'Tool.

The only people who didn't like as far as i can see are the people who read the Iliad, only because it wasn't accurate to the book. Well i don't care about that, since i never read the book.

I head that in the Iliad, the battle for Troy takes place over 10 years. Now do you seriously think you could of made a good movie, a war film espically, with a 10 year timeline.
mr_halo

i realy enjoyed the movie...

i loved the action, the huge battles were great....i love films with big battles in them....thus why i like lord of the rings tongue.gif

i though eric bana was the best in the movie, althougfh i thought brad pitt was rather good too....

I really liked it, too. It was not the best movie of the year or anything, but it was enjoyable. I realize that it did not follow the source as closely as it could, but in general most of the changes were understandable (some were a little silly).

But, I will freely admit most of my enjoyment came from Pitt and Bana. Sorry, call me shallow. grin2.gif
Shadowsleet
Shallow is when you're 50, and are chasing after Brad Pitt tongue.gif You can probably be forgiven...not like my enjoyment of FFX-2 had as much to do with the gameplay as it did Yuna's hot pants tongue.gif
chico del nacho
ugh, i hated troy. it was boring, stupid, and the bloody wailing woman that they used as a pitiful excuse for music made it impossible for me to enjoy what little good there was in the movie. i can't remember a movie where i've looked at my watch so much, wondering when the stupid thing would end. then i remembered it was three hours and i swore loudly. why did i just leave? i paid for the damn thing, i was gonna see the whole thing, even if it caused me pain. oh god, that stupid *%$#in wailing woman...I can sing better then that horrendous crap.

perfect summation.

The amazing high wall that was really high that they were really proud of because it was so high.

Never mind that the original wasn't even a quarter of that size.
Werewolf of Doom
My mom's seen it like 5 times...I didn't really like it...It wasn't anything special, really, and I'm not too interested in Greece. I'd learned about it, but never really cared for it.
Dancing_Dumplings
oy i couldnt stand it. the only part i liked were the bloody battles! devil.gif im not a big fan of brad pitt though. *waits for the flames laugh.gif*
i heard alexander was horriable too disgust.gif
ChrisC098
Brad Pitt is awsome espiecially in fight club. devil.gif ph34r.gif

Brad Pitt is an amazing actor - I love him in Fight Club, Interview with the Vampire, Ocean's Eleven and even his appearances in Jackass were great!

Though...this movie really didn't bring out his best...I blame the director. Whatever his name is.
