A robber who left behind a mobile phone containing his picture has been dubbed Britain's dumbest criminal.

David Kelly, 30, dropped his phone as he and an accomplice switched getaway cars after a £6,000 raid on an estate agents.

He was jailed for six years after police identified him from the mobile's album of snaps of him with his wife.

Kelly, from Wareham, Dorset, also used his own car in the getaway and it was easily traced reports The Sun.

He was found guilty of robbery at Bournemouth Crown Court reports The Sun.

Detective Malcolm Hustler said: "There;s a TV show called America's Dumbest Criminals. If there was a British version there is no doubt Kelly would be in it."

His accomplice, who has not been traced, held up the estate agents with a 'shotgun' which staff could see was a hammer.source

The guy who robbed a convenience store with a plastic bag over his head and passed out due to lack of oxygen is the dumbest IMO. Seconded by the guy who robbed a 7/11 in nothing but a bra.

if i recalled there's also a dumb criminal who tried to rob a bank show his identity card and told his account number to the bank receptionist so that she could bank in the money into his bank account.

Well usually criminals are the lowest form of human being and thie just goes to show how very stupid they are, yet few if any will ever learn!

You can only get away with that crap for so long! For some people, "so long" does not even apply because stupidity was the main factor in the first place.

Or the guy in Fort Myers Florida who was stopped for a minor traffic violation a few years ago and arrested. He had no idea why he was arrested for such a minor infraction, until the arresting officer reached up and removed the joint the guy had tucked behind his ear. DUHHHHH
