Hey there everybody! I want to know What your favorite cryptid is and why.

Have any of you ever SEEN a cryptid? If so, please, share.

Mokele, although i actually like myths and legends more than cryptozoology.

I love myths and legends. actually it was my fascination with greek mythology that is part of the reason why i like cryptozoology.

I have actually had an experience with the "Goat sucker"... or as I found out, literaly translates to "It absorbs goat".

The Mothman! He's just awesome. Along with the Jersey Devil, I'd just love to go in the back woods with some friends and a shotgun and try and find it.

My favorites include the mountain and water tigers, who's description sounds like sabertoothed cats, and the mngwa, who is more deadly than most.

My Favorites are the african ones. But my top 5 are In no particular order
1. Nendu'Me - a living dragon, how could you not like that?
2. Mokele Membe - a living dinosaur, it doesn't get much cooler than that
3. Emela Ntouka -I'm not sure what it is, but it fascinates me, and I wish htere were more info on this guy
4. Nessie -Just a classic
5. Bigfoot - same as nessie

Mine is the Yowie, due to probable encounters with one.

What is the beast of (checks spelling) Gevaudan?

The Beast of Gevaudan,

Reports of the Beast of Gévaudan date back to 1764 when in a south-central portion of France, a wolf-like creature massacred defenseless civilians. The first known encounter with the creature was when a young woman, when tending to her livestock, saw the creature approaching. Her dogs, the woman's only protection, were quickly scared off. The beast, described as the size of donkey, was pushed away by the cows. Using their horns, the livestock was able to save the woman.

After the first encounter, the creature began to kill woman and children. In over sixty cases, the heart and vital organs were torn out. As the attacks increased in brutality, peasants began to speculate the creature was actually a loup-garou (werewolf). Reports of the creature looking through windows in the dead of night began to circulate as the fear of the darkness grew. Many feared to leave their home.

After a brutal and public attack on two young children, help was requested from the Royal Court of Versailles. King Louis XV quickly sent a large crew of troops, under the leadership of Captain Duhamel, to the area. As the troops were stationed in the town, they came in contact with the creature several times, but were unable to kill it. To lure the creature, several soldiers dressed as woman on the assumption that it favored "easier" prey. As time went on, the killings stopped and the troops returned to their home base.

After the troops had left, though, the killings resumed. Soon, a large reward was posted for the death of the beast. Hunters came in droves and in a very short time over a hundred wolves were killed. During this time, the killing of children seemed to increase in quantity and brutality.

In June 1767, Marquis d'Apcher brought together several hundred hunters and trackers. Splitting into groups, the men searched the country in search of the beast. Jean Chastel, who had loaded his weapons with silver bullets, confronted the creature and fired two shots. The second shot hit the creature in the heart and killed it instantly. After the creature was gutted, the remains of a small girl were found inside its entrails. For several weeks the carcass of the gigantic creature was hauled around the countryside to celebrate its death.

I still say it was a wolf/ dog hybrid!

I like the Mothman. He can fly, he looks cool, and scares people. What more could you want?

Not really a cryptid, but i like it because it actually IS real.

Giant Squid. No one on the site knows more about them than i do.

I didn't see the documentary. But yeah, if the movie had stuck to the original story, it would have been a lot better. But it was still kinda cool

The Cryptids i like most are miniature elephants

The miniature elephants are cool but I have to say that i really like the giant squids. I simply LOVE how mysterious the deep ocean is. So many places in our OWN world yet to be discovered.

Is the giant squid even a cryptid? After all it existance has been proved and i even belive they captured a small one though i could be wrong.

I thought a crytid was an unproven creature though.

“Cryptid” has become a term describing pretty much any unidentified animal, much as such mysteries were known as “the what-is-it” in earlier times. Particular “species” of mystery animal, for example the Sasquatch or Loch Ness Monster, are known by the name of cryptid; likewise the term is more loosely applied to more paranormal things; sightings of out-of-place animals and animals thought extinct; and even singular sightings different from any other cryptid or known species is not infrequently called by the name cryptid.

Another one of my favorite cryptids is the Rhinoceros Dolpphin. I don't know why I like them so much, but they fascinate me.
