is the movie gattaca prophetic? with our understanding of dna many genitic 'disorders', and the ability to single out a person with near 100% accuracy does the movie gattaca send a chill down your spine?

i dont even have to link to anything about dna's role in our judicial system, just watch the news there will be at least one story pertaining to it.


do we even want to know what our genetic future has in store for us, and if we decide we do once that information is on file whos hands are it going to end up in?

should we search and filter out devistating genetic disorders? if so should we go ahead and screen for lesser inherited diseases? and if so should we screen out other 'undesirable' genes such as obesity, alcohalism, violent tendencies, depression?

another scary thought is when gattaca first came out there was an advertisement to geneticaly engineer your child, suposedly thosands of people called.

do you think we should take control of our evolution, do we know better than natural selection? should we design gregor's for the our benifit? can we build a society where everyone has their place because they were born for it?

I think.. Yes! I believe we are at the stage to evolve ourselves. I think we should be able to add and take away good and bad genes to make a perfect child. One who doesn't have any disseases. Take Stephen Hawkings for example. If he had a child it would have a good chance to be smart, yet it would have a good chance to have the horrible dissease that Hawkings has. Now, if we could take that gene away that causes the dissease, he would have a smart, normal child. With great potental. Plus, why stop there. Why not add a third arm. Hell, I could use 2 heads. 2 heads are always better than 1, eh?

About Gattaca, I believe that it will not only be based on how long you live, but how smart you are, too.
