Toshiba has unveiled a prototype fuel cell it hopes will become the power source for laptops in the future. Fuel cells should work with existing laptops
The fuel cell breaks down methanol to generate power and, Toshiba claims, will provide enough juice to run a laptop for about five hours.
To get the cell working, the alcohol fuel is provided in small 50cc cartridges.
Toshiba hopes to put the fuel cell on sale in early 2004.

'When methanol is broken down it generates carbon dioxide and water. The water is used to dilute the concentrated methanol held in the fuel cell's cartridige and keep it at the right concentration. '

What happens to the carbon dioxide?', if allowed to enter the atmosphere it does not sound very green to me.

Halo_Jones
Ha! Ha!
Isn't Daz usually alcohol powered while on his computer?? biggrin.gif
Bizarro
i suspect it will not be long after this goes public that we hear a story about kids buying them and trying to drink them laugh.gif

Druss... You Mr.Green, you... icon_mrgreen.gif

But really, I don't think the carbon dioxide generated from those cells will exceed the average amount coming from the soda you probably drink while working on the computer... tongue.gif
Kismit
Carbon dioxide isn't to bad Druss . It's the carbon monoxide's we need to worry about .

Halo I can't speak for Daz but I know my computer wouldn't run in the chat properly if it wasn't for Celti's Baileys laugh.gif
Loonboy

I'd buy one.... as long as it dispenses...

lol I don't know how long you'd last if you decided to down some Methanol; since it turns the blood acidic et al. rolleyes.gif blink.gif

Only thing I can think of that the CO2 would do is to turn your lime water milky. tongue.gif

Wow I miss those A-level chemistry classes. sleep.gif
