Hi all,
I live in Egypt, me and many people realized something strange.
I dont know if many people around the world realized it or no !!
But here i would like to know your opinions about it.
-----
When there are a big group of people in the same place and everyone of them is talking in the same time ,, you can say that each two are talking 2 each other ,, .... so people are still talking and talking without any silent .....no silence in this area !! he he..... Sunddenly all people stop talking and there are nothing except silence in that place ,,,without any reason,,,, people dont know what is the reason that made them stop talking suddeny in the same time !!!
We found that this always happen in any time in the minute 40.
01:40 ,, 02:40 ,, 03:40 ,,,anything like that.
I hope u can understand what i mean.
I would like 2 know what do u think about that.
thank u

that happens all the time in my classes, except sometimes there is one group of kids who stop a few seconds after everyone else, so that group thinks they are the center of attention, and say some stupid remark like, "why did everyone get quiet?", or they get quiet themselves, thinking the class is listening in on their gossip exchange.
I know what you are talking about, but never noticed the time when it happens.

Could the clock in the room be the true time and thats when the people shut it? I think it depends on what the clock says in the room...

That's interesting that it happend every hour.
Since it happens in my school all the time, I'll look into it and see if there's a pattern.

A 1948 book about superstitions said:
Sudden silence — it must be twenty after
The most popular superstition on this subject, however, is the belief that when, for no apparent cause, everyone in a group suddenly seems at a loss for something to say, it must be twenty minutes after the hour. This idea is generally accepted by superstitious Americans, and is purely American in origin, going back to a legend which has grown around Abraham Lincoln's death.
For those who believe that the Great Emancipator died at 8:20 o'clock, a sudden silence is supposed to occur automatically ever since, through some supernatural agency. By the same token, there are those who believe that it is also a special reminder that the moment is of great significance and should never be forgotten. This superstitious belief has grown into a national tradition among all classes of society.

Yeah, but it may happen at the exact same time for everyone...
...has anyone experimented with this phenomenon? I forgot when I was in math class, seemed like a good time to do it there...

.
If it does happen, i'll try to see what time it did happen and maybe the phenomenon would rather revolve around that time...

I'm a band member and to :40 Phenomenon never happens cause my teacher is always screwing around and the class screws around and then the teacher gets pissed(he started it)

.
I think it should happen to all classes though, at least. The class first should have the free will to go chatter while the teacher does something on the board or is sitting on the desk. And while (s)he is doing that, your class chatters and in :40 after, it happens...
Does it normally happen in those situations? Well, happens to me...but I haven't tested the :40 phenomenon.
