The Hebrews had “folk remedies” that said, “onions were a battlefield balm for wounds” and “colds were treated with onions”. They were later called wives tales by people but Louis Pasteur found out that the onion was an antibacterial and a Russian scientist said that onions block viruses that cause colds.

In other words, if you put onion in your daily diet you should have much few colds if any. I haven’t had a cold for over three years.

If everyone ate onions on a daily basis for a few years, we might stink up the place, but we could literally destroy the common cold viruses.

Ah, my most favorite aroma - onions sauted in butter with the "nightshade" vegetable green peppers. mmmmmmm

Onions, mmmm, My Dad use to go them so sweet that you could eat them like an apple. Garlic is good too. I grave it when I have a cold. Honey is a good antibacterial too the Egyptians used it for cuts. It works, because I have used it.

Onions give me bad breath and make me expell some noxious farts.

I'd rather have the cold.

I love onions and cook with many different types. Not all onions give you bad breath either.

Lol, you're right, the contagious viral germs that infect every tangible thing when your snotty sneezy mucous is "expelled" from your body is SOOO much better tongue.gif You may want the cold, but I bet people would rather deal with you smelling bad than dealing with the crud mentioned above original.gif

I love onions, I dont eat a lot, but about a whole onion a week when you add it up, and I've had like one cold in the last couple years....I thought I hated onions up until a couple years ago, but then I tried them on a burger and loved them since. Maybe there is some credibility to this onion remedy.

I've never had the flu, or the cold (at least since I was a kid), I haven't even had to see a doctor in 17 years and the last time was only because it was mandatory check-up before going over-seas.........I've never even had a cavity.........I guess I'm fortunate for this good health........I guess the worst I've had is the 'chicken pox' when I was six.....that's about it.........(hopes this post doesn't jinx me).......... grin2.gif

Mmmm... onions and Garlic... both my favorites, especially garlic. I once went to a mongolian bbq in Okinawa called Gengis Kahn, just a little hole in the wall... and I put so much minced Garlic in my food that I literally had the smell of garlic coming out of my pores for two days after that. But dang, was that a good meal:)

and its healthy in so many ways!!
