Optical Illusions in art by Istvan Orovitz

In this work we see 3 angles of the same stairway. Although a sketch of a man walking down the scene is clearly visible on the first image, the full illusion of creating a flawless new image from a completely different angle is revealed in the third. The second image shows a frontal view of the stairway and shows how he achieved these tricks of the eye. The precision in the art must be perfect for a full effect to be experienced.

This is a painting of Jules Verne's Mysterious Island. A fine sketch to say the least, yet when a convex mirror is placed at a certain spot within the painting, a perfect portrait of Jules Verne is reflected! The angle the mirror is placed towards the painting, and the way the lines of the painting are reflected within that mirror, combine to form this amazing artistic feat of Anamorphic artwork!

Here are two more works from Orivitz, The Minotaur and The Foot. The Minotaur is reflected in the middle of the ancienct ruins of a colloseum, while atop a mountain a foot is reflected from its peak. Both represent fantastic examples of this peculiair manipulation of reflection. there is a clos-up of the minotaur for you to see his head.

In The Stairs concentrate on the woman in the left. Look to see how she will walk down then up the second set of stairs. Now focus on the man on right, can they use the same stairs on the right at the same time? Perplexing!

In The Waterfall, follow the path of the water.Which tier is higher and which is lower!? How can this eternal cycle be?!? It can be! Due to the mind of M.C. Escher and the power of Illusion

This sketch artist specializes in drawing impossible figures. Below are some of his works using geometric designs which simply cannot exist. Follow a particular pillar or observe the space between and realize that these figures simply cannot be created in sculpture, but only admired from a surface which does not know the meaning of of a third dimension!

Instead of creating things which are impossible, Scott Kim creates that which is possible, yet completely unexpected and well hidden. His technique is to write a name or word and have it say the same thing in the exact same style even if the figure is turned completely upside down!
He even creates images in which an entirely new yet clearly visible word is viewed when the object is inversed as seen in the example below!

Atop the word "true" is higlighted in red which makes up another word "False". Now, move a little farther back and look at the image below without the red highlighting. Though your eyes are already trained to the see the highlighted image from before, you can still see how these two words intermingle as one!
