Mad Manfred
Based upon Hannibal Barca (Carthaginian who fought Rome during the late BC's) this movie is due for 2005 release.

Vin Diesel will play Hannibal.

He's perfect IMO.

Should be good...lets just hope it doesn't turn out like Kull or Troy.

it should be good. i saw an interview with vin on e! he was talking about the movie and all of the intense training he went through.
BurnSide
Not really a good name for the movie, since most people upon first glance will probably get it mixed up with the other movie 'Hannibal' which didn't come out to long ago.

Is anyone else getting sick of the recent trend of history action flicks?
Mad Manfred
I'm not sick of them...I am however sick of the bad ones that claim to be accurate...Troy, Gladiator and Braveheart.

The OFFICIAL title of the movie will be Hannibal the Conqueror.
BurnSide
I don't think any of them have been particularly historically accurate. They're given the Hollywood treatment.

Judging from the recent and aweful modern movies mocking history... (Troy, Alexander... etc) This movie will probably just be another mess covered by nice eye candy and computer animation.

This movie already sounds like it is full of inaccuracies...

Vin Diesel does not look at all like an ancient North African Carthaginian. They will probably have to fake him up like they did with Colin Farrel in Alexander.

Where will they get the elephants for this movie...? The elephants that Hannibal used are extinct!! tongue.gif Oh yeah, of course, computer animation or using the Indian elephant instead will take care of that!

Crazy hollywood infidels, all they care about these days is the money they will make from the movie and not the quality, power, or message of the movie.

No doubt. Though my hopes are high that it will not disappoint.

How can you say that? The movie hasn't even begun production. All we know is is that Vin will be Hannibal...thats basically it.

All the pictures of Hannibal that I've seen suggest that Vin would be perfect. He's large, muscular, mean looking and just looks like a barbarian general.

Like I said...all he needs is the beard an some armor.

Which elephants are extinct? Regardless, unless they were mammoths, they'd be pretty much identical to modern day elephants. Don't be so nitpicky tongue.gif

Yup. Which is why I usually go for the lower budget movies, they're usually better.

Just as a comparison for those who don't know who Vin Diesel is or what Hannibal looks like -

Honestly no one really knows. He's been thought to be black, brown and white at different times.

Well, if he was born in north africa, he probally would be light to dark brown. All egyptians, algerians, morrocans etc are all tanned.

These days, yes.

Back then? Perhaps not. It was 2,000 years ago.

Look at the Greeks. 3,000 years ago they used to be Nordic in appearance (blonde and blue eyed).

I know cleopatra was part greek. When the powerfull greek families married into the egyptian upper class. Although, i do agree with you on that idea, i still believe the greeks and egyptians of today, aren't entirely the same as there ancestors 2,000 years ago or before. I have read that the few emperors that were born in north africa looked caucasian looking, with your usual white or pasty pale skin.
