they don't understand it at all, and thus their denial stems from their ignorance in the field.

Most of the arguements they bring up are already proof enough of that...

"If we evolved from apes...then...then how come apes are still here!?"

Is but one example of the mind numbingly stupid points we have to educate them on...

I think that if there's an afterlife, God will make room for all the atheists who didn't believe in anything after this world but who lived good lives and did the right thing anyway.

In fact I think they'd get a better seat than all the people who have to be bribed and threatened into being good with stories about heaven and hell.

Redneck, you are my kinda thinker:)

I had the exact same arguement ages ago with a Christian on another forum...they seemed to be of the opinion that only a "good Christian", who follows "god's word", could possibly be a good person, and that everyone else is an evil sinner tongue.gif

I'm of the same opinion you are though...I consider doing good for good's on sake, instead of god's sake, to be a far more noble act than mindlessly following what you're told is right or wrong by god...who, it should be added, has proven time and time again to do things wrong himself tongue.gif

Totally agree, of course. The same friend of mine I talked about in another thread who told me I was going to hell if I didn't believe in god told me that she knew that when I died I was going to have to face god and I'd still deny him. I just laughed at her... Clearly that when I die, if I am faced with God I'm not going to deny him. But I'd like to think he'd be pretty proud of me for being a good person even without being threated by him.

My mom says I should have the fear of God in me. Yea... ok mom... I wanna get into a place like heaven where I'm terrified of the landlord. YAY!!

to anyone that says religion is a belief: religion is not based on real facts and tries to explain how life started. rofl.gif

science uses the sceientific method based on hardcore facts and mainly tries to explain how we got where we are now. thumbsup.gif

religion is a theory conjured out from science. yes.gif

to the question on this forum:

no, i don't think atheism is a religion. why? when you ask a person what thier beliefs are and they say i don't believe in anything, a religion, or a god. upon hearing this a normal person will think "oh, he's or she's andAtheist". and yes, the Atheist answering this question is aware that being an Atheist means not having a religion. so we all can conclude from this conversation that Athiesm is not a religion.

more aptly put, a PAGAN is someone without a religion. Ergo, technically atheism does not IMPLY no religion, but yes RajinCajin, all we atheists know that we do not believe in religion. And the society standard of someone called an agnostic is someone who isn't sure about God, but believes that no religion is the way to find the answer...

The problem is that the term religion can be interpreted many ways. Some interpret it to include atheism and some do not. I don't think any side is more correct than the other - it's simply a matter of personal preference. I don't think we can definitively say whether or not it's a religion. The best thing to do would be to just call all religions philosophies, and then atheism would be included.

NICE! w00t.gif thumbsup.gif That is a good way to put it.

I think I'm just not understanding what you are trying to say with this. As Paganism is the beleif in several supernatural entities. Thus making it a religion by any definition. hmm.gif
