I really like metal music. But who create metal music. Maybe Led Zep or DP. And how they got the idea to create this powerful genre of music. Beatles & Elvis played rock n' roll not metal but did pioneer of metal music took the idea from them?

Rock 'n Roll is the father of all rock/metal.
Rock 'n Roll gave birth to the Beatles, Elvis, etc which in turn gave birth to Heavy Metal bands such as Zepplin, Metallica, BS, etc which gave birth to Nu-Metal bands such as Korn, LB, Coal Chamber, etc, which gave birth to Death and Black Metal bands such as Dimmu, Slipknot and Rammstein, which led to pop rock bands such as Linkin Park and BEP.

My view is this; metal grew from the mix of blues and rock. Example would be Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, and Deep Purple. All of these bands have a very heavy blues based sound and influence. As far as a creator I would have to go with Jimi Hendrix as the father of metal. I would of course welcome any other views.

I would say Black Sabbath where the first "actuall" metal bands. Hendrix pioneered the guitar sound, Led Zeppelin made it heavier, but it wasnt actually metal until Black Sabbath.

Black Sabbath 1st album 1970
Led Zeppelin 1st album 1969
Deep Purple 1st album 1968
Jimi Hendrix 1st album 1967
After researching it I can't dispute your assessment.

Have to admit, my first thought when I read the topic: HENDRIX. He of course did not start rock n roll, but it was during his hay-day that rock started getting the harder, "metal" edge to it.

What's funny is that my husband and I both had all of those when we combined them. We have a bunch of duplicates.
My vote was Hendrix.

To the rest of you old foggies...

I agree that there where albums before Sabbath, but they where the first to be metal.

As I said, I am not disputing your assessment. I was just showing dates on first albums. This thread is a lot like many others it is a matter of opinion. Incidently the only real Sabbath is the Sabbath with Ozzy. Dio is good but Ozzy is the original.

I am that way about a lot of bands who have changed members along the way. Most changes don't work for me, example is David Lee Roth or Sammy Hagar with Van Halen. David Coverdale or Ian Gillian with Deep Purple. When John Bonham died I was sad but also happy that the rest of his band mates decided to stop and not try and replace the best metal drummer ever.

Yeah, AC/DC made an amazing come back after Bon scott died. I think they got even better with brian johnson.

Yeah I would say definitely Black Sabbath, I tend to look at Metallica as more classic rock than actual metal though. The first black metal was the album 'black metal' by Venom.
Hotoke, if Dimmu Borgir evolved from the Beatles they did a pretty damn bad job of it (sorry I hate Dimmu Borgir).
Jimi Hendrix wasn't metal, but he did bring an edge into rock 'n' roll that had never been brought in before. Then Black Sabbath came, and out of this evolved black metal (first introduced by Venom) leading on to such bands as Emperor, Burzum and Darkthrone and Death Metal (Hellhammer, Vader)

I don't really think of Led Zep or Hendrix as Metal, their music is far too complex. A heavy metal song can be summed up in one riff, and its dark music. Hendrix and Zep are flower children.

Hendrix was ahead of his time as a guitarist and pretty much set the stage for a good portion of the guitarists that are around today, so Im going to have to go with Hendrix
