Whats Yule? blink.gif
Deadly Nightshade
Its a witches sabbat. A sabbat is equivelant to celebraration. Yule is the christmas celebration which pagans celebrate on the 21st of December.

Blessed Be.

Yes I did celebrate Yule. I went to a party, we exchanged gifts and had a good feast. Just be for Yule my Pagan Order had an open ritual. It was beautiful. Lots of lights and a little Sun God and of course a feast of stone soup. We Pagans love to feast! Christmas my christians friends came over and we watched movies and ate chinese food. It was all and all a great holiday season. original.gif I bet I gained 10lbs though. rolleyes.gif

In my own little way.

It's absorbed in as the witches sabbat... it's accually ancient Norse and Celtic celebration of the winter solstice.

Seems like a good alternative to Christmas...I'll investigate over the next year.

The reason why it does is because when the romans went and conquerd the british isles, they absorbed the Yule celebrations and made them into Christmas to make the pagan natives convert to christianity.

Practicaly everything you see celebrated for christmas is based from Yule. side the worshiping and Masses for Jesus. But things like, Father Christmas, decorating a tree.. lights.. giving gifts, feasts, and the yule log are all pagan based.

Yule is the celebration of the solstice, the longest day in the year.. when the horned god is reborn to be consort to the goddess again. Also when the Holly King is defeated by the Oak King (then vise versa during the summer solstice.)

Basicaly, these celebrations, and the symbolisms with the Kings, hornd god and goddess are based with thier close connection with nature, and the way the worship it.

Stupid question: how do you pronounce it?
SilverCougar
Yule... like You with an l at the end of it.

the two tricky ones are Samhain, pronounces Sowin and Lughnassadh. Which, is pornounced Loo-NAHS-ah. The one thing I learned about celtic words is, they are never pronounces the way they look
Deadly Nightshade
Dont forget Beltane Silver Cougar, as this is just as important as Samhain.
It sounds really good Darkwind, such a beautiful way to celebrate it. I celebrated it as I said beneath a full moon and celebrated it with my own little coven by ritual giving thanks to the GOD and Goddess and feasting afterwards.

Blessed Be.
