this has been happening to me for many years. I understand that they are spirits. Some stay with you, while others stay with the dwelling. Has anyone read "The Unquiet Dead"?

Dec 27 2004, 03:19 PM
Hey Hotoke, maybe it's a shadow person that you're seeing.

Seriously, though...I have this happen all the time. Why do you think this happens? If there are "spirits" in a location, and that is what you're seeing, why can you only see them out of the corner of your eye? Is it a matter of "accidentally" seeing them?

*Sigh* Here we go..People see things from the corners of their eyes and with barely any consideration at all they automatically become "Spirits." To tell you the truth it has far more to do with how your mind works than it does with the paranormal. You see the corner of your eyes is where your blind spot is. Where normal and peripheral vision meet. Anything travelling through that area becomes invisible to you for a split second. Whether that be a person, dust mote or flash of light or whatever..However your mind doesn't cope well with vacuums. If something that's there is rendered unseeable your brain will sometimes create a familiar image for you; a person or animal for example until whatever it is moves into your visual field again. This is even true of stationary objects that only move because you've turned your head slightly..

This is sort of what I mean with everything being a ghost. There are enough logical reasons behind seeing something out of the corner of your eye. Migraine headaches, for one, can cause "floaties" which can occur in your peripheral vision. It's basically seeing things that aren't there.

Dec 27 2004, 08:23 PM
Yes... I have seen things move at the corner of my eye... But if you're not an idiot you should know that's just your imagination! If I see something... I look... Nothing there... Whatever...
There's nothing there people! Nothing... Maybe a chair or something, but not a freaking spirit! Stop being paranoid!

If you don't believe, than why waste your time on a thread like this?
I don't believe in Santa Clause or the Easter Bunny, but I don't spend my time going around telling little kids that they don't exist...that's pointless.
This is the one thing that I just don't get about this forum...all these non-believers and de-bunkers on an "unexplained mysteries" website...hmm...

I see things all the time like that. Its very wired though, even though I know its my imagination, I see the same things everytime. Its always an older women and a little girl in a bright red dress with green bows ( christmas dress I guess) It happens only for a second and then its gone. hmmmm...

I don't believe belief or disbelief ever came up in the poll. It merely asked if we'd ever seen anything out of the corner of our eyes. Even I voted yes on that one; it's happened to everyone at some point. There's absolutely nothing wrong with anyone offering thoughts or opinions on why this happens whether you believe it's a "ghost" or not..
Methinks the lady is being too defensive for too little reason here..

Nah, just curious as to why so many are so eager to jump in and make comments like this:

Then no offense taken.

Allow me to alleviate your curiosity then. Although I don't speak for all here; personally, I want people to take a good long look at why they believe as they do and whether or not their reasons for doing so are flawed. If you believe in something "just because" or if it was just the first thing you thought of, you don't have a fully formed belief and it has no strength of belief or intellectual integrity behind it. Then it's not something that's valid and is easy to disregard.
After all; if you don't even know the normal explanations for things; how can you be fit to judge when something happens outside that category?

Dec 28 2004, 10:03 PM
Point taken. And you're right. Though I do want to point out that, as you mentioned, the reasoning behind what we see or don't see wasn't the focus of the poll either. Also, since no one has elaborated on the reasons behind why they believe that what they are seeing is, in fact, something of a paranormal nature - isn't it unreasonable to assume that they believe it "just because"? Or that there is
" no strength of belief or intellectual integrity behind it"?
Just my two cents... again, no offense meant. I just like to argue.

I always see things out of the corner of my eyes all the time. I used to brush it off, until I got witnesses who seen what I had seen. There are times "we" see the same thing at the same time. That's good enough for me!

It happens all the time to me when I'm away and I miss my cats. I belive that because I think about them a lot, escpecially perhaps subconsciously, I see them move out of the corner of my eyes. Nothing supernatural about it when it happens!

On my birthday a few years ago my ghost team, went to the Adelaide Gaol in South Australia we were in a courtyard, there were only five of us my boss, investigator Tony, and a young couple and myself, Tony and the couple went up some stairs to an area of which one cell had its lights on which were not supposed to be on! As I was looking around there was this recreation room with a back door to the courtyard which is ALWAYS LOCKED! Just this particular night it was open and out the corner of my eye I saw a pair of legs running really fast out the corner of my eye, he had white pants on too. So that was like what a birthday present I actually saw someone, but as usual as I turned around quickly they were gone and it came out of the recreation room which is always locked, freaky!!!

This is great i have never seen something out of the corner of my eye until we moved into our apartment, it always looks like bright white smoke if that makes sence and sometimes if you turn realy fast you you can see it move about 2 feet before it disapears my husband and i see it about 5 to 10 time a day give or take we have seen it at the same time and actualy just last night while we were having a poker game 2 of our friends saw it at the same time so for all those sceptics out there please explained what we are seeing if not spirits then what? There is no smoke in my house less im cooking HEHE and the fire alarm always catches that before us.lol I believe in spirits because i have seen 2 in my life but those were actual figures of people this is just like i said bright white smoke that flys fast lol I always have my camera sitting beside me now because im gonna catch it one of these times.
