Reflection the Hedgehog
Me and my friend, we live in Dover, New Hampshire. we were walking around in a small foresty area near our school when we came across a strange reptillian creature. Unfortunatly we didn't have a camera on us.

The creature was gray and had black bands running along it's body, it also looked like a snake, but it had legs like a Komodo Dragon. It's tail drooped down and slithered along the ground as it moved and it flicked it's tounge like a snake also. It's eyes were like that of a chameleon, sorta popping off it's head, their coloring was yellow. The creature had sharp teeth and about 2 cm claws, small. The creature was about 5 to 10 inches in length.
It had that skin thing on its head like a Cobra. It had Pale Black (Darker then the skin) bat-like wings, connecting the front and back legs on both sides of the body. we didn't see if the creature could fly or not, because we left, but I suppose it could glide.

We named this reptile: Con gambe-serpente or "Legged-Snake". We wonder if it is discovered because we found no information. If anyone knows what it is, some info would be appreciated. And also, those up to it for a better description, could attempt a sketch (I suck at drawing tongue.gif )

I have no idea what it was.

the Cobrada Dragon? lol I'm not quite sure what you saw.. strange..
Kabutarian
Did it have a pair of front legs, but no hind legs?
Reflection the Hedgehog
It had front and hind legs. As I said, the wings were connected to both pairs of legs.

No proof can't believe you sorry...

I also don't think a animal would have legs sticking out of its shoulders and hips...
Falco Rex
You know; I live in Union New Hampshire; just a short way from Dover. Given the temperature here right now I doubt any reptilian is moving around at all. What time of year did you see this? I find it highly unlikely though; to tell the truth. If a reptile had wings it wouldn't look like a Komodo Dragon or other Monitor species it wouldf be far too ungainly to ever fly.
DarkSide
Well I couldn't help not drawing a picture of it.. So I present to you. My own thoughts of what it may have looked like...

So your telling me that a reptile (only been found with 0-4 limbs not counting deformaties) with 8 limbs was walking around in the forest during the middle of winter?

The 'unknown' reptile!!:

EDIT: Osrry I just realized that you said it had a hood like a cobra too, so its not in the drawing.
Shai_Hulud
SOunds like the borneo flying dragon. It doesn't have 6 limbs, it has a rib cage that expands to glide, the flap of skin connects from front leg to the back leg so that could be what he was talking about. It is a very small reptile though and not indigenous to England.

It also lives in a tropical humid enviroment, not in a forest during winter.

Ehhh. Just trying to prove a point original.gif

I think its because him and his 'friend' wanted some attention, I am pretty happy with that drawing though, maybe even editi it in the future laugh.gif
Reflection the Hedgehog
Sorry for the confusion about the legs, it had 4, not 8.

It could have been a figment, but I'm pretty sure I saw the thing walk. And I'll check the drawing in a second.

Maybe what they saw was a Borneo Flying Lizard even though it is not native to England, it could easily be a reacently escaped pet or have come from a zoo. Even more likely because Im sure if it had been a missing pet or escaped zoo specimen rewards would have been advertised for its safe return it might have been an escaped victim of a reptile smuggling ring?? Yeah?
GothDemon
A frilled lizard that was shedding or peeling???............it would explain the hood like a cobra...
lotus_spring
It can be a new breed of species, it can also be a lesser dragon of legend. Are you talking about the flying dragon type of gliding wings, or is it bat-like? How many pairs of wings did it have?

Lizards with bat wings are connected with the supernatural.

Yeah, as soon as I saw the part about "wings", a flying lizard came to mind -- some kind of glider...anyway, I agree with whoever posted further down, that someone had a pet that got away, or that they let go.
Quite a few times exotic animals have turned up in strange places -- at least one alligator has been found where I grew up (Buffalo, NY), and a baby alligator was found in a small pond in N. Collins, about 35 mi. away. Also, the week before our alligaor was caught, a caiman was found in Central Park. People just get sick of their animals for whatever reason -- too big, too hard to feed, etc. -- and let them loose in a pond/river, thinking that eventually, they'll find the ocean, or die, or whatever their mind is thinking at the time.

Sorry, I went off on a tangent there....

http://www.centralpets.com/pages/critterpa...s/LZD2644.shtml has a full description of flying lizards. It does say that they are normally green, but maybe because of the cold, the color faded/changed somehow? *shrug*

Anyway, your lizard was probably on its way out, as there is no way it could survive in the winter of New Hampshire for long.
