I bought the new medal of honor game, pacific assult, and installed it. I anxiously clicked the shortcut on my desktop, only to get an alert about my graphics card not being good enough. It says the minimum that i need is "ATI Radeon 8500". I've searched for quite a while now online for somewhere where i can find an update or something (since i'm not too computer savvy, and my brother said i could probably find one) but i haven't had any luck. Also, whenever i think i've found the right place to download "ATI Radeon 8500" the link goes to a 504 gateway timeout...

anyone have a link where i can get what i need? hmm.gif

What graphics card do you have?
What are the minimum specs. for the game?
Jesus_Freak
hmmm... if i knew how to check which graphics card i have, i would... (as i said... i'm not too computer savvy)

and umm, the minimum requirements are:

OS: Windows XP (which i have) or 2000
CPU: 1.5 GHz or faster Intel Pentium 4 (which i have) or Athlon processor
RAM: 512 MB or more (which I have)
Disc Drive: 8x or faster cd/dvd drive (have)
Hard Drive: At least 3.0 GB of free space (have)
Video: Direct X 8.1 compatible video card (???)
Audio: Direct X 8.1 compatible sound card(???)

then over to the right it says "video card must have 64 MB or more memory and one of these T&L capable chipsets: ATI Radeon 8500 or greater; NVIDIA GeForce3 or greater except GeForce4 MX"

Click Start
Right Click My Computer
Click Properties
Click Hardware
Click Device Manager
Click + next to display adapters

Post what comes up

Jesus_Freak
hmm... well i guess downloading ATI stuff is pointless, because i have NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420.... i never got around to searching for something for that....
Jesus_Freak
hmm... i found this

The game doesnt support this card as it needs pixel shading and full DX 8.1 support your card has neither. Apparently there is no software fix for this. So buying a supported card or taking the game back look like the only options for you.
Jesus_Freak
ugh... that sucks... ok, thanks for your help

No problem

The following is from NVIDIA's website

Medal of Honor Pacific Assault and NVIDIA cards

Question
I am trying to play the game Medal of Honor Pacific Assault, but it is not working with my older NVIDIA based graphics card because it does not fully support DirectX 8.1. How do I fix this?

Answer
Medal of Honor Pacific Assault requires Pixel Shader support in order to run. Pixel Shader is a hardware feature not available in older NVIDIA based graphics cards. The following GPU's do not support Pixel Shaders and will not run Medal of Honor Pacific Assault:

Riva TNT
Riva TNT2 M64, Riva TNT2, Riva TNT2 Pro, Riva TNT2 Ultra, Aladdin TNT2
Vanta
Geforce 256 DDR/SDR
Gefprce2 MX, Geforce2 GTS, Geforce2 GTS Pro, Geforce2 Ultra, Geforce2 Go, Geforce2 Integrated GPU
Geforce 3, Geforce3 Ti 200, Geforce3 Ti 500
Geforce4MX, Geforce4 MX Go, Geforce4 Integrated GPU
Quadro
Quadro2 EX/MXR, Quadro2 Pro, Quadro2 Go
Quadro4 380 XGL, Quadro4 500 XGL, Quadro4 550 XGL, Quadro4 580 XGL
Quadro NVS

Since Pixel Shaders is a hardware feature, it cannot be added via a driver update. If you have a graphics card which uses a GPU from the list above, you will need to replace your graphics card with a newer model which supports Pixel Shaders. yeah... don't new graphics cards cost a ton of money? I'm guessing more than i'd be willing to pay just to play a game...?
<bleeding_heart>
well you could prob. get a ps2 + mohpa for less than a card you need that will last a while.
Jesus_Freak
hmmm... yeah, that's a lot... crap... this sucks lol
<bleeding_heart>
If your determined to play it just look around you never know!
Jesus_Freak
well, it did say taht i couldn't download anything from the internet right? or would they just say that to discourage people from downloading stuff, so people would buy their cards?
<bleeding_heart>
I mean you might find a really good deal on a card.
Jesus_Freak
ah... ok, yeah but even then I wouldn't even spend $100 of my own money on a card... I'm saving up for cymbals...
