If anybody knows of some dark classical music please share the names with me. original.gif

How dark are we talking here Kratos?

Philip Glass - ‘violin concerto part 2’ is particularly atmospheric,
or Mussorgsky’s Night on Bald Mountain spring to mind.

Einaudi’s ‘Yerevan’ although it’s not his best work by far, is a very haunting piece. or his ‘Edgar Allen Poe opening’ piece is quite dark. thumbsup.gif

Is this the kind of music you're looking for?

I agree. Violin concerto part 2 has a strange aura to it, almost as if it was written for an old time scary movie or something.

It might not be classical...but have you thought of getting soundtracks to some movies? A scary one that my husband likes to listen to is the soundtrack to "Stir of Echoes"....it uses orchestra.

Yeah I have, thats dark classical music... from any era. It really doesn't matter as long as its dark. original.gif

there are parts where I jump because of the eerieness of the music is so low and somber and quiet and then comes sudden jolts of loudness...I hated listening to it at night...He actually found it relaxing!lol

grin2.gif Its only scary if you are not one of the night. I can see how i can be relaxing though. I go to sleep with a lot of my music and wake up with a slightly louder version of it. original.gif

Henryk Gorecki symphony No.3

It's a requiem for Auschwitz & it's soulful, moving but beautiful.

Depending on what kind of "dark" you are looking for - eclectic dark, or brooding dark, for example - you could try Stravinsky or Strauss. Try some of the composers from teh Romantic era (believe me, much of the music is far from romantic).

A modern-day dark music would be the soundtrack to the film "Pan's Labyrinth",which I'd also highly recommend.

Hope taht helps

This one's going to be rather unothodox, but....

Akira Ifukube's GOJIRA. The soundtrack to the film of the same name (which was later recut and released in the States as GODZILLA, KING OF THE MONSTERS). The American version didn't keep the music intact for nothing: it's, dare I say, one of the best film soundtracks out there, and certainly dark enough for you.

In fact, I'd reccomend pretty much any of Ifukube's compositions, film soundtrack or not. He wasn't considered a national treasure to the Japanese for nothing...

In the same vein, Koh Ootani's GODZILLA, MOTHRA, KING GHIDORAH: GIANT MONSTER ALL-OUT ATTACK is rather nice as well. More traditional classical blended with some synth elements. Not bad, though somewhat repetitive.

Honestly, that's one thing that the Godzilla films have always had going for them: aside from a few exceptions, the music has been excellent throughout the entire series.

EDIT: oh wow, didn't realize how old this thread is...
