I'll go first - I would like to see who voted for what on the polls. To me it would make them a bit more valid because some people would be less prone to lie about what they voted on.
Lottie
UM is a fab website and as far as I see Saru has it perfectly under control.

As for voting, voting is a personal and private thing and should be kept that way.
Curiosity
I think we should have the option to change our vote. I've had countless times when I accidently clicked on the opposite of what I wanted to vote for.

And whatever happend to that clown smiley?
4dplane
How about a graph page that gives you the outlook of the number of people on UM and what page they are on, this way one could clearly see what’s going on at all times.
Saru
These are all fine ideas, but in order for them to be added they must first be written into the next version of Invision Power Board, or released as a modification. To make changes like the vote changer or graph for example, requires a lot of time and work changing the code in the scripts, and would take me quite a long time. Because of that i tend to only use pre-made feature modifications, or wait until a feature has been built into the forum software itself.

I do appreciate all the suggestions though, it gives me an idea of what people are looking for and which modifications I should be looking out for thumbsup.gif

I tend to agree that keeping the votes in polls private would be best, i doubt people would be as eager to vote if everyone could see what option they voted for.

This one would be very useful when looking though previous posts.

Go to profile options and select "Find member's posts". When selecting a post it would be great if you were taken to the page of the post you clicked on - as of now, when you select the post you are taken to the first page only - point is, the topic may be 50 pages - that’s a lot of pages to sift though to find the original post.
4dplane
This is a definite must have - the ability to change the title / sub title of a thread you have started.

Snowbaby

That could cause some problems and or confusion, if you wish to edit or change your topic title or sub-title, just email a mod and they can do it for you. thumbsup.gif

Ya - it does work, I was always clicking on the title of the post - I did not notice until you mentioned it, that there is a Post Preview button at the bottom center of every post.

Thanks, thebarman

See I knew it was a good idea grin2.gif

True, but there could be a edit mark on the 1st post telling users that the thread starter edited the title or sub-title. Not much different then the current ability to edit posts.

Asking a mod to change it for you is not bad, just thought it would make things easer for everyone.
Saru
You'd have to go to Invision Board with some of these suggestions really, these are more ideas for the forum software developers.
Diebytheflyguy
^ Would that include a "modified" thread search? It would be easier if when you use the search command it only searches for the word(s) that were mentioned in the title or subtile, not word(s) that were mentioned in the posts.

That feature already exists, click "more options" on the search screen, then click the radio button for "search titles only".

I have that ablility on Musical Metaphysics, although it's because MC gave it to me. Is it possible to give everyone this ability?
Saru
The option to let people edit their own topic titles is available, it's just disabled.

What I was referring to was what 4dplane suggested afterwards about a system that displayed an icon to show that a topic title has been changed, which isn't presently available.

Ahh, ok then.
But, other then confusion, is there any reasons why people shouldn't be able to change the title of their topics?

A significant concern is the possibility for abuse, it would be too easy for someone to rename some of their own threads to offensive/obcene titles, or to keep renaming them all the time to try and get their thread to appear higher up in the forum search engine results. We would probably also end up having long-running threads renamed on a whim and then nobody being able to find them.

um needs a thread for arguing. yes as weird as it is some people like to argue viciously why not make a place where they can without it getting deleted? like call it the battlefield or something. the reason behind this idea is that some people can get offended easily so if they dont want to hear it then they just dont click on it

I don't think we should be trying to encourage overly aggressive arguing, even if it was restricted to one thread. I'd rather people didn't use the forum for having a go at and insulting one another.
thebarman
It would be good if you could link to images from the gallery, a couple of times I've found it would have been handy to do so but it's disabled. I'm guessing because of potential copyright issues??

What about a system whereby when you are writing your post you had an "Insert picture from gallery" option which would enable you to browse the gallery for the image you wanted and have it in your post but still have remote linking disabled?

This would save having the same image uploaded twice or having to remote link it from another site.
BurnSide
I'd love personalised galleries on the homepages. Just a seperate page that shows all of your pictures, maybe even in thumbnail view at the bottom of the homepage or something.

Also, i saw this on a different invision board, a warning meter?
Basically it's something only you, the mods and the admins can see, and it starts off at 0%. With each warning you get, it goes up for an amount of time and if you continuously break the rules, the warning meter would get to 100% resulting in a suspension of the account. Twice this happens, you're out.
Janiel
I've seen that, too. I think it would be a good idea. When you see it's at like 90% you'll realize you've been bad and stop. Self Discipline. I like it.
Saru

The right click on there is disabled to stop other sites from remote linking to the pictures, which would go off with a lot of bandwidth.

It's a nice idea but it would be very hard to do and would take a long time to develop. If you want to link to a gallery image what you could do is just add a hyperlink to the page on which the image is located, so that everyone will then know which image you are referring to.

This already exists, however it is highly unusual for the moderator warning levels to be visible to everyone else. The system isn't meant to be seen by members, and there would be problems associated with allowing members to look at each other's warning levels.

I hope i'm not asking too much.
Is it a good idea if we have a paranormal dictionary in here ?
and abbreviated words meaning ?
It might sound good for newbie or......search engines.

Or just click here.

I don't think there is a feature for doing that. It can only be set as visible or invisible to entire member groups.
Janiel

I am aware that there is a Spell Check function, but some people never use it. A large amount of the posts here are almost impossible to read, and there's the occasional typo in a thread title that never gets fixed. The forum needs spell checkers. And I mean people who actually go around, reading every post, and editing them to make them more understandable if they're already not. If it ever would happen, they'd basically be moderators, but their job would be to just fix grammatical errors and such. Or maybe the current mods could do this.

Other members could not see yours, nor you see other members warning meters.
But you could see your own, and i think it would be really good for members to see their own warning meters, so that as Janiel said, it would increse self control. If you see you're getting close to a suspension or something, you'd want to stop being a jackass or whatever.

Opps, I was responding to colorless's post, Burnsy snuck under the wire on me. tongue.gif

ohmy.gif

Could you imagine how much fun that would be? blink.gif

It's also problematic, you'd have some people accusing you of changing their text and/or words to something totally different, whether it is true or not. This is an international forum and some members struggle with an unfamiliar language, this should be given some consideration. No one is 'required' to be grammatically correct, but those who post messages innundated with spelling errors, 'leet' speak and absurd abbreviations are generally regarded as being childish and not worthy of attention. Polite requests can be made to those whose posts are difficult to decifer, in the hopes that some effort on their part is made to improve. Those who ignore such requests usually don't enjoy friendly or helpful responses.

I say we do need something like B.S. and them said. I see some people post some comments...that are awful.
Kismit
You ain't seen nothin 2Pac.

If you see a post that you consider awful, nasty or vulgar then click the report button. It helps us out a lot .

Another consideration with the spell checkers, Colorless.
We don't all spell English the same way. For instance you have Colour and Color, Night and Nite, Doughnut and Donut and my particular favorite Jail and Gaol.

It must be a hard language for people who don't customarily speak it.

^ I ain't seen nothing? Yeah I seen some ma'am...I don't wanna sounds disrespectful(I'D HATE TO BE BANNED I LOVE THIS SITE!) But in one thread I seen the N word used a awful lot. So how are you going to say I ain't seen nothing? I'm not sure if you were joking arond, but that seemed pretty serious.

But yes I seen one thread get totally off topic on race. Saying white people this white people that. Ni*** this N***a that! Do you remember that thread?

I seen that maybe you didn't!

With all due respect sorry if I sounded rude, but you said I ain't seen nothing. I am just trying to back up what I said. original.gif

More Smilies! grin2.gif

Idea: It would be great to set three keywords associating with your nickname in the forums. You can add up to three names that people regularly know you by, and whenever it gets posted in the forums, in any topic, you can enable a feature letting you know your nickname was uttered. That would be cool.
Thanks for considering.

I am afraid you misunderstood my point 2pac4life. What I meant was the moderators do get a lot of stuff you haven't seen and most of what we get is quite a bit worse than the threads you will have read.

And please if you see any racist or inflammatory comments report them. That way we can dispose of any-one foolish enough to behave that way.
FLY SPITTA
Yeah I was just trying to prove my point. Because ou said I ain't seen nothing....and I knew I seen a few threads where people would use the *N* word. So you know I was just giving you a example of what I seen. original.gif

But if I see any I will tell U.

don't know if it's been mentioned, but maybe for longer threads, the ability to choose which page you want to go to, instead of going three pages at a time? like if i were on page 100 and i wanted to go to 75, but was too lazy to keep clicking through the pages because i have dial up and it'd take forever to do.

To go to a specific page in a thread, all you have to do is click on the box which displays the number of pages, and a dialogue box will come up allowing you to enter the exact page you want to view.

Try it on this thread as an example. thumbsup.gif
BurnSide
Wow, i never knew that, and that is VERY HANDY!!!

I've been in thread with 250 pages, trying to get to page 125 by going 2 at a time. laugh.gif
Thanks!

Yeah I found this out when I tryed clicking on the last thread and I ended up clicking tht box next to it, it said tyoe thread you wanna go to! I never knew that I just found this out like 2 days ago it's neat. thumbsup.gif
Kerkido
:/ Yeah but this trick only works with people that have java or whatnot on their computer. I got the same prob when I try access hotmail.com, and now it's an official problem that I can't jump to page 125 here on UM.
