Blood Angel how old are you mate if you don't mind me asking? All the classics you're mentioning I remember as a young teen, they were back when gameplay and originality really counted for something, and I was unjaded.

But games that were under-rated in my eyes...
Wing Commander: Privateer (the original) + The Darkening (the sequel) - They were the Elite's of their time, I had countless hours playing these games, and I remember them as (at the time) definitive experiences. Gripping.
Freespace 2 - Quite simply the best-looking, coolest,. most enthralling and absorbing space-combat game ever made. I still play it now with something approaching awe. The scale simply has to be seen to be believed. Truly awesome.
Rollcage II - Much overlooked futuristic racing game with one of the best and most addictive multiplayer modes i've ever played, and many Bonus features that made it almost impossible to put down. Weapons were great and strategic, and the track were many and varied. Wipeout was nothing in comparison.
Got to go, i'll think of some more later on, lol.

I'm 22, got my first computer way back when the first 486s (if you don't count my first computer being a commodore 16) came out, which was a 486sx33 with 4 megs of ram (alot of ram back then). My first ever game was called "Secret Agent" by Apogee (incredibly old classic platform game - one of the first apogee games to feature vga graphics) - then came Wolfenstein 3D the grand daddy of DooM, although not the first FPS - it was the one that defined the genre. In my mind Wolfenstein 3D was one of the greatest games ever made, shooting nazis have never been more fun. I made a 2 level mod for wolfenstein, using newer programs. Then i got my first Civilisation game (Sid Meier IS God), and was hooked on strategy - again of the greatest games ever that defined a genre. After that it the DooM series - then C&C when it first came out (remember playing the demo, and literally peeed my pants with excitement)....and the rest - RA quickly followed, Civ2, Warcraft 1 & 2, Master of Orion 2....
They don't make games like they used to, since EA got their filthy mitts on the market, classics are few and far between. Not even Civ3 has reached classic status in my book yet. DooM 3 isn't a classic, but a few years ago when i first played Halflife, which defined the online multiplayer genre gets classic status by me...now i'm finding it hard to find a really decent game that focuses on gameplay rather than uber graphics.
I never got into the wing commander series, pocket money was tight, so i only got games i could get off of other people. My brother did buy me C&C though, and my father got me Civ 2 when it came out. One of the only games i got myself when i was still at school was - Rise Of The Triads (which was supposed to be wolfenstein 3d 2, but the censors wouldn't allow any reference to nazis, so they changed it to demeneted monks. The whole game is just a gore-fest and not much else. By the end of devolopment, it was nothing but a joke to Id Apogee and it showed in game.).

I just remembered a few games that I loved, but weren't
too popular.
Forever Kingdom. Awesome RPG. Like Final Fantasy. Everything on the characters was customizable. Their Clothes/armour, their weapons and so on.
CastleVania: Symphony of the Night. Old ps1 Game. Kick ass, all the way. Better than any installment since. Too bad with the introduction of the one on ps2 it's all but vanished. I think this game needs a remake
O.R.B. A lot like C&C, but based in the future. It's got nice graphics and gameplay. The only problem I had was getting used to it being fully 3d. But, once you're used to it it's awesome.

One of my favorite games that I dust off once in awhile is a great sci-fi piece of software called Master of Orion II.
My all-time favorite, however is a great game called X-COM UFO Defense.
The X-COM UFO Defense has never received the praise it deserves.

The graphics actually were not supposed to look realistic, The game had it's niche becuase the developers wanted the graphics to be more artistic, you will not find another game that looks like it.

Also the game Kagero awsome game. has anyone heard of it?
