SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - A raised eyebrow, loud guffaw, smirk or other facial expressions could all be banned in future political debate under new rules proposed for the city council in Palo Alto, California.

In a bid to improve civility in the town's public discourse, a committee on the city council has spent hours debating guidelines for its own behaviour.

"Do not use body language or other nonverbal methods of expression, disagreement or disgust," a new list of proposed conduct rules reads.

Just an FYI here to my European friends....There is a vicious rumor circulating that San Francesco is part of the United Stated, it's not true.

J6p is right, San Francisco is more like Europe than the U.S., especially their militant left wing ideology.

This ridiculous proposition banning facial expression, however, sort of alienates them from everyone else.

I agree, bloody ridiculous. Too bad there isn't a way to ban those from San Francisco from viewing this forum. After all, we wouldn’t want to offend them
