This mummified kappa was discovered at a winery in Imari City in 1953. Its body length is about 70cm.

A kappa is a Japanese water demon, it looks like a turtle and has a hole in the top of its head that holds a fluid, if you get caught by one (so the legend goes) just bow to it, they are very formal creatures and will bow back, thus spilling the fluid and rendering it helpless.

I had a quick look on Google for some more information about the 'Kappa', the best description I found basically summed it up by saying :
"The Japanese Kappa myth concerns a freshwater sprite or imp who delights in playing pranks on humans; yet he longs for human company and acceptance."
There's also
This Link which is from a thread a while back relating to a scam involving the Kappa. The news link doesn't work, but there's still some snippets of information about the Kappa there you might find helpful.

This one looks more like a bone carving than a mummy.
The glowing box is cool, though.

it looks like the tounge, ears, lips, and eye balls were fossilized too. is that what i see? the head does indeed look like its a carving, the body could be a monkey or squirrle with the tail ripped off, osme part slook real,s ome dont. the head has little resemblance to any skull, definantly not a lamb or deer, except maybe a primate of some sort, and thats a stretch.
