are the scratches thru the skin or just surfus scratches?

Just surface scratches, very thin and already scabbed over , no signs of infection, no pain, no itch, no redness, no fever, no nuthin--just a curiosity...

Sounds like somnambulism or some sleep disorder of the kind.

But it may be something else, it's just that I have a hard time beleiving that non-physical entities can physically harm you.

Also, if someone or something made these, wouldn't you wake up? I mean, even if they are only scratches, you're most likely to feel them beeing done, unless of course you have a sleep disorder problem.

Many possibilities here. But I admit that it's pretty freaky.
amityasphyxiated
I dunno about non physical entities not being able to harm you. Nothing has ever left me cut, bruised or bleeding, but I have been touched gently and not so gently by ghosts I could see and others that I could not see. And there are some pretty well documented cases out there. I hope it's nothing like that though, I hate to think of being scratched at by some invisable nasty.

this form of phenomenon is really wierd, there are a lot of theories about it. mine is that somehow, people do this to themselves subconciously when they sleep.

Yes, so please stop scratching yourself.

nacho1560
Hi, Scarlett. Wow! 7 pages about your scratches. It just goes to show people care and are trying to help you get to the bottom of your problem.

I don't have a solution or even a suggestion. What does sound daft to me is the suggestion by some that you're doing it yourself whilst asleep. If that were the case surely the scratches would bleed sometimes and not look like they were half way healed by morning.

No one really knows how religious fanatics can often be troubled by stigmata, wounds on their bodies resembling the nails of Christ on the Cross. But however they happen, the wounds are real and they bleed.

Maybe it's just something you'll have to live with, Scarlett. Annoying, yes, but as you say not painful or even itchy. Like you, I'd love to know the cause. But there would be no mysteries in the world if we knew the answers to such questions. grin2.gif

Good luck from Scotland.

I haven't been around for a while but just thought I'd check back. Thanks coldethyl for kind of pointing me in the right direction. I've done some research and found that the term they use for what I experience is called Night Terror. I've read some other stories at http://www.nightterrors.org/

Since I've been here last I have not had any more scratches showing up. I don't know why. It just hasn't happened in a while. I have have many nights of very active sleep since I've been here last. It doesn't seem to be getting any better or worse. It's just something that I've just been living with. It seems to never fail to happen if I watch a very scary movie before going to bed. Anything new with you Scarlett?
GhostDJR
Hi ScarlettPony, I had the same problems with these scratches when I woke up and when I took a bath. I thought it ws pretty weird but my parents said not to worry about it. Rhey stopped coming on me around the time I started puberty which is kind of weird.
Best of luck.
Brother_werewolf
This has happend to me too I also just gain little cuts on my body my parents tried to tell me they were normal, but when I picked at them (as most children did) they would bleed for a long time.

I am new here, having just found this site last night---but already I have read many posts from people who have had the same strange occurances as I have had!!!  So, I can be honest with y'all I think!!!!

This is one that I haven't seen anyone write about yet;  so if anyone has had this happen, please reply.  Especially if you know what it is.  Or what causes it.....I only know it's not me who causes it!!

It's just this:  Ever since I was little, every now and then (enough that i would call it frequently) I notice these thin scratches in different places .  They appear to be old scratches,  a dark red color.  But they wern't there when I went to sleep the night before.  There is never any bleeding, but they are definitely scratches, always exactly the same stage of healing--they look like they were made with a needle---but they are of varying lengths.

You may think "hangnail", or "she does it to herself in her sleep"  and that's what I  would think if I were reading this. But I don't have hangnails, ever.  And they appear on areas I can't reach, like the middle of my back.  Usually it will be a long scratch across my stomach, but sometimes on my face or arms.  The strange thing is they always look the same and it has happened all my life.

Hmm, I have those.... all over my hips and chest....
They don't hurt, so I don't give a thought about them...

Well I know that's not the case with me. Some of my scratches were on parts of my body that I could not reach with my hands. Add that to the fact that I've always had a habit of biting my nails. thumbsup.gif

ScarlettPony & Megladon, I hope you are still keeping up with this forum post.
Very great idea starting this topic, and I thank you very much for doing so.

I have had these EXACT same scratches on my body. I could hardly believe my
eyes after I found this forum topic through a search. I normally would not have
done so, but I was at wits end trying to figure out if I was the only human being
experiencing this very problem. I did a google search on this phrase "scratches
appear on my body" and found this topic.
This was the first google response I recieved. I am not big on the paranormal AT
ALL, but the simliarities are so strikingly similar in this thread. I signed up to the site,
just to make a post in relation to this type of event.

Mine has been going on for years also. Thinking back, I remember them first appearing
while I was dating my ex (mother of my children) 8 years ago. I am 27
now and this was starting to happen around the age of 19 or 20.
There were times, she REALLY thought I was cheating on her, because of these marks.
Sometimes appearing on my back, in places were love making could make them
appear. Though, I had done nothing :-( With her kind, considerate heart, she would
believe me in the end, (or acted like it) and would never really make it a BIG deal
to damage our relationship. As I would explain to her that this only could have
happened in my sleep. I will be the first to admit, that I like to drink and for a
long time I wanted to assume that these marks may have come from my drinking
the night before.
These scratches, usually appear, and are found, on my torso & abdomen, or back.
Like you spoke of before, they are not bleeding wounds, but red irritated scratches.
Not sure if you have noticed, but mine burn when they are fresh. I know this after
this evening experiencing one WHILE I WAS AWAKE. All the other times this has
happened while I was sleeping. Please allow me to explain this.
I was on my way to the kitchen to make another vodka and orange juice, when it
felt like a bug bit me on the stomach. I naturally slapped at the spot where I felt
this, in an attempt to kill (what I thought was a bug). Then, lifting my shirt and
shaking it in a manner to release a bug, I found none. I then walked into the kitchen
turning the light to the brightest setting, to look for the (bug bite) and that is when
I discovered the new scratches. These werent even really red yet. I practically
watched them develop right before my eyes. This is when I KNEW that there was
a demonic force tampering with my body. I did however notice somthing different
about them this time. They seem to resemble, roman numerals, this time.
XII. The picture I submit tomorrow will shed more light.
The way i would describe them, is they look like cat scratches they are so fine.
Only I do not own a cat, at the present time, nor have I had a cat, anytime these
marks appear.
I will be doing some follow up posts on this, just to insure ANY readers I AM NOT
insane. If it were not 5:30 in the morning here, I would go to my unlce's house
right this minute to retrieve my digital camera and submit photos of the marks
inflicted by these demons.
I will do this first thing tomorrow after I get the camera back.
Thank you for your time in reading this and I will be following up on this.

Strange Scratches
Submitted by: egypt - new york (30/07/02)
When I was 16, I started experiencing scratches on my arms. I think they would appear while I was asleep. I would find them in the morning while taking a shower, and I would feel a burning sensation. The scratches would last for about a few day after a period of time they stop.

Now, they have started again at age of 24, but now I get them all over my body (especially stomach, arms and legs) while I am awake. I feel them every few minutes, regardless where i am. I feel a stinging/burning sensation, and within a few seconds either scratches OR subtle marks patterns appear on my skin.

Sometimes, the marks resemble letters or numbers, especially the number 3. I had a cousin, who I was very close to, who died when we were young. Her birthday fell on October 3 (possible connection?).

The scratches are thin, but they swell up slightly. I'm very confuse what is happening and why.

Any answer would be appreciated.

Procratsin8---Yes, i do check in every now and then. Thanks for your post! Yikes, man. Those pictures look EXACTLY like mine! Only yours may be a little more severe/angry-looking than mine. I wonder if perhaps they come as a kind of a caution or warning. I only say that because you said yours began about the time you started dating your ex-wife--not that she is a bad person or anything; just aht, for whatever reason, the relationship didn't work and it was a monumental relationship in your life. Next time I get any scratches, I'll pay close attention to the choices I am looking at. I believe that all choices are important. All stems from all else, who we are is a result of the details we choose. I was so young when mine started, but then again, I remember important things happening even at a very young age. I don't have the ability to post pictures with my computer--I am SO GLAD that YOU DID!!!! I don't care what anybody says, i know I am not doing this to myself. They DO look like cat scratches don't they? Of course, when mine started, we didn't have a cat. And I've never had a cat that scratched me in the places i get these things. No one has offered a viable etiology to me yet that I hadn't thought of before. Well, my new friend, thanks again. Peace and love to us all.

Megladon
Hi & welcome procrastin8.

I check in every now & then too. I found the site pretty much the same way you did. I did a google search for scratches while sleeping or something like that. I was amazed by what I read. Just about everything I read was extremely similar to what I've been going through. That gave me the courage to share my story. Before I never spoke to anyone (except my wife) about it. I figure everyone would think I'm crazy.
It's great that you have pictures. Those look similar to mine, but mine were longer and on a different part of my body (down the middle of my back and on my shoulders). If I get more I will take pictures. I must admit that this hasn't happened to me in a while. I used to maybe get them twice a month, but it probably been at least six months since I had any scratches.

FYI - If I didn't have any of my experiences I would not believe any of the stories I read here. I have read many explainations of what people think could be causing the scratches and I must admit I would be the same way if it had not happened to me. It would almost be impossible for you get me to believe you if I had not had similar experience. I absolutely believe you because it so similar to what has happened to me. Thanks for sharing your story.

Bye the way - has anyone went to see The Exorcism of Emily Rose? There is a scene in the movie that is similar to what happened to me. There's a scene where Emily is in the bed and her body kinding get pressed down into the bed as if something very heavy is on top of her. You can't see what's on top of her, but it's pretty obvious that something is there. That is what happened to me. It was weird too because I felt like I had a 6th sence at that time. I could not see, hear, smell, or taste whatever it was, but I felt it. And for the 6th sence, well I felt that whatever it was on me was very dark. It's very hard to explain, because dark & light are visual things that we detect. This was different. I didn't see the darkness. It was almost like I felt it. I somehow knew it was dark. Very, very dark. Just pure darkness. I also felt that I was in danger.
HomeIsWhereTheHeartIs
Hi,
I have these too. . . I have had them on my body and face on and off since I moved into this home my parents built. I have never had scratches at any other place I've lived before or since. . . and I get them again when I come back home. I remember in school I had to dress to hide them sometimes. I am a sensitive, and I don't want to go into it but my dad brought evil into our home around the time it started. I think it happens to me because I am sensitive. I think darkness seeks the light. I know for sure I don't do it to myself, and I know there's nothing in the bed to cause it. . . it's weird. But then we really know so little about the world unseen.

I do have asthma and allergies, but these scratches have happened in the middle of a conversation with family, when I haven't been touched. They look like a welt, then a scratch. Mine are much deeper than I could cause, and they do hurt sometimes.

I mention my asthma because I have it always, but only have the scratches in this home. No animals sleep with me (I wish they did) the little cuties. Prayers and lights and holy oil and crosses help.

Good luck . . . we are spirts in a material world. wink2.gif
frogfish
would the scratches look like claw marks? (3 gashes like | | | )
If they burned wen you woke up and they broke the skin (like a cut), that would signify a demonic spirit.

If the scratches were just random all over you upper body (DIDNT break the skin, and were slightly raised and red), dont freak, u probably scrathed youself at nightime. I used to do that all the time. Try some body lotion/mosturizer.
Pink Glitter
Wow..I just ran acrossed this post and it just reminds me of the time I woke up underneath my parents' car with no idea how I got there, and I also had burning scratch marks all over my face. I posted about it here if you would like to check it out.....

http://www.unexplained-mysteries.com/forum...opic=52124&st=0

I only had these scratch marks happen to me once, but never really thought twice about them since I thought I got them from having a terrible nightmare and probably from something underneath of the car.

Sorry if this is late....but I heard a case like this and how they solved it!!!!!!!!

First it was a little boy who would get scratches when he would wake up and when he complained the mom called a phsycic....
then they found out thier house was haunted by a scary old big nosed lady who wanted them OUT.....

They moved and the scratches disappeared

Sorry for bad grammer/punctuation and such...

I am so glad to find this site. I awoke a few days ago with a long pink scratch on my back that stretched from my spine, around my hip, and almost to my abdomen. It looked and felt like it had already scabbed over. There is NO way I caused this myself, nor did my mattress, bedding, etc.
I had looked at every parasite, etc. explanation on the Internet and didn't find anything similar. The pictures and many of the descriptions on this site looke like what I've experienced. I have had no pain, itching , etc with this. It is just "there".
I am in my early sixties, and have never experienced this before. I have, recently, however, had very sharp pains on accasion, that feel like serious, sudden, insect bite. There is no mark at the site of the pain although I think it feels warmer to the touch than the surrounding tissue for a few minutes. These have occured on my shoulder, ankle, thigh-in other words-random spots. Very wierd!

Hi kwirtz--First, let me tell ya, I know how wierd it is and I also know that I am not doing it to myself either!! What you describe sounds an awful lot like what I, and many others, have experienced. So, believe me, I believe you!!! That other thing with the insect-bite-like feeling, I think the two are probably unrelated; I would strongly suggest you watch these bite-type sites very closely, they could indeed be insect (spider?! crying.gif ) bites. Let's hope you don't have the Brown Recluse in your area!!! But if they were serious spider bites, you would develop a really bad boo-boo within the day of the bite. Besides, people don't usually feel the bite of the brown recluse when it happens. There are of course other serious spiders in the world!! (You didn't say where you live, so I'm just guessing possibilities for ya.) The scratches I have gotten are already scabbed too, like they have been healing for about a day or two already when they weren't there the night before! It IS wierd and if people didn't relate to this, thehn this thread of conversation wouldn't have been going on for 10 and a half months. I had no idea when I started it that it was anything anyone else would have had. I am not sick (well, there are some who may disagree! lol) so I know they don't bother me physically at all. They just go away. So, who cares. I just think it's wierd.
Thanks so much for your response--I'm glad I checked the box that asked if I wanted to be notified of replies. Otherwise, I'd maybe never know this is still an active thread on the forum. But anyway, alas, you my friend are not alone.

Take god care,

Hi Mr. Vort-
Yes, it was. And I regret it. Partial excuse: long night at work, very tired and very tired of flippance...of course, that is no excuse. I guess i just think anyone who actually calls himself (or herself) "Blitz Krieg" is looking for trouble or is just a hateful person at any level. That being said, it was rediculous to respond at all; that kind of person would just "lol" at my annoyance. So, thank you for giving me the invitation to apologize to everyone who reads this! (Except, of course, to our friend "Blitz Krieg", who just by name alone deserves no apology.) Nazi mentality just has no place in this world.

Peace and love to us all.....please,

four or five days ago i noticed these strange stratches on my left shoulder. There is no way I could have done it. I don't drink, so no black out, and no violence. I seriously have never seen anything like this. they dont break the skin, more like bruises; but look like claw marks or something. I did have a friend take a picture, if I can show it. at first i was thinking Reptilian, because my earliest childhood memory is me laying in the crib, and there is a giant lizard thing standing in my doorway. dream or awake i dont really know, but distinct, and i can still see it today. Then I start thinking demons. In my opinion demons are the reptiles. They just want to trick us into thinking that they come 'in peace' so that we'll follow them. anyways I dont know what they were, but now five days later they're gone.

ok ok ok, I guess i overreacted. Maybe just a little. I must have had alot more on my mind than this to have snapped at you like that. I do apologize; I was wrong to strike out at the closest thing that hit me the wrong way when I saw it. I am sure you are every bit as American as I am; and the war machinery of the Germans at that time was indeed impressive. Not too sure I share your admiration for the scientists though. Seems like they coulda found more helpful things to work on than, well....let's just leave it at I'm sorry for biting your head off. I also have a relative who lived to talk about Pearl Harbor. Those guys are not that easy come by, so, we have something in common. Take care,

I just realized why I think I got so pissed and so quick-fire. It may make my apology more believable to you because I think I still sounded sarcastic even if I was sorry. I think what it is is that you wouldn't believe how many people responded in ways that have been rude , insulting and hurtful even. Like they got off on making fun of someone and thought it was just hilarious to say something flippant and smartass and didn't care how it made me feel to talk to me like that. Like I am some idiot who cannot think of possible reasonble causes. I expected that to a degree, but it got old so I just stopped trying to be nice and explain better and yes, I have thought of that, and it isn't that, and thank you for your reply but I don't have scabies but thanks for the thought, bla bla bla. So when I saw your "lol...there bedbugs man", well, I don't know if you can see it or not, but it looked kind of smartass to me. Looked alot like you were scoffing and not caring that I knew you were laughing at me at my expense. Otherwise, why would a person bother to make such a statement. So, anyhow, I hope that clarifies for you where I was coming from. Sometimes it takes something startling to make a point, is my point. Of course, there is the possibility that your intentions were honorable and innocent and you really thought that bedbugs could be an answer. But again, I was wrong to either (1) take the bait, or (2) totally misinterpret your intention with your response and react like a banshee.
So, now that we hopefully understand each other, let's call it a mistake either way and next time I'll be nice and I hope you will too.

I get the exact same thing although i think i get them while im awake too. I do tend to get more while asleep though. I searched the web for this because ive been getting them more frequently the last couple of months (for about a year). I am NOT scratching myself. Two other things that have happend to me that seem related:

1. i remember waking up as a child next to my step-father (who doesnt have these experiences) and seeing a black panther staring at me from the corner. I think i actually passed out after seeing it. this could have been a dream.

2. i woke up next to a girlfriend just a couple of months ago and felt something invisible trying to anally "penetrate" me. i remember not being able to move or speak but when i consciously said "NO!" "it" left me alone. im pretty sure this wasnt a dream as it took me hours to fall back asleep after this.

both sides of my family have had weird experiences but as far as i know im the only one who gets these scratches. my mother ecspecially has had some wierd stuff happen to her.

edit:
mabye this is important... I'm 22 years old, Male and have noticed these scratches for a couple of years. I just started really noticing them about a year and a half ago.

The scratch thing? That happens to me sometimes I get loads of scratches in a certain place there normaly red/white and raised with the surronding area red, some of them bleed some of them dont. The thing is that this always happens in the same places, my neck, my wrists and the bends in my arm. They stick around for about a week and fade really slowly until oneday their not there anymore
