Another interesting thing is that some guys used to have a band and I let them use my living room for a place to practice; the lead guitar player was really talented, and he always warmed up the same way. the guys were always welcome here, and sometimes they would just come in and start playing, even if they didn't see me right away. Well, several times I heard Jeff in there warming up in his usual distinctive style. I have gone in there to say hello to him only to fing that Jeff is nowhere in the house. And it was a matter of a few seconds between when I heard him and when i lokked in. This has happened to my husband too; it really freaked him out because he has no psychic tendencies like I do. He never doubts anything i tell him now. Statues have fallen to the floor from the backs of shelves, pictures rearranged, items lost then found in rediculous places, etc, the usual stuff. Another interesting thing is the couple (a man and a woman) who carry on lively, animated conversations with each other in some really beautiful foreign language, perhaps French, I can't tell because it is always coming from another room and is always muffled. They won't speak to me but they sound like they like each other alot. This couple has followed me to three different homes. Then of course there is the music that comes from the air vent in the bathroom. There is the mist in the guest bedroom that disappears almost as soon as you go in. None of this has ever scared me except my friend who died, and that was my fault not his. I have NEVER told people about this stuff except those who are open to believe; I know it sounds schizophrenic as hell. I think i am a normal, intelligent average American female--I have a Bachelor of Science degree and work professionally in my career with no strange occurance anywhere except my home. These are not the only occurances, but you get the point. I don't know what this stuff is, but so far it's really quite ok with me. I feel sort of honored.
Oh, another cool thing was the dark man who came to see me when I was little--I have heard them called shadowpeople on this website (first time I ever heard that term), but my understanding is that shadowpeople are malevolent usually. This man was much blacker and more dense than a silhouette, like what I would think a black hole would look like in space. But he didn't scare me either; I was absolutely wide awake without a doubt, I felt someone watching me, turned over in bed to my right and he was standing about 4 feet away. He then came right up to the side of the bed in a smoothe sort of "walk(?)" and bent over me very close. I just kept looking at him. I couldn't see any details even close up, except that I could see a detailed outline of his hair (short and sorta wavy), but he remained that same dense solid deep pitch black. then he was gone without even standing back up. Why wasn't I scared? He seemed to be just checking to see if i was OK. (And it was not my father, Daddy was working night shift at the time--I was actually in the bedroom with my mother at the time.) She was asleep, I had just come in her room and climbed in bed with her to snuggle her feet with mine. I wish he would come back.

I think I know what this is. Our brains create a chemical called DMT. If you research it, people claim to have incredible vision quests when they use it, like a psycotropic substance. Well, I believe that people with "psychic" ability are really just releasing more DMT than the rest of us, since our brains can naturally create it, and because of that, the multiverse comes out to those people with more DMT. What's happening to you is your taping into the multi universes around us, there are bagillions of them, too many to count, and endless. So, be proud that you have the ability to hear and sometimes see these things happening, cause I'm jealous. I'm able to precognate, I can tell when somethin is going to happen, when my phone will ring, I can predict events, but that's about it. I never hear anything, see anything, nothing. Anyways, that's what I think is going on here.

I would try to rule out certains things before you jump to paranormal explanations. You do not need to have a hangnail to make a scratch on your body. Certain forms of dermatitis also can appear this way. If I were you I would have a dermatologist look at this. A friend of mine was convinced she was being visited in the night by spooks of some sort. (Wishful thinking perhaps.) But it turns out she was allergic to the lining of her comforter which caused her skin condition. Even though she was adamant with me regarding her conjecture of the paranormal, it turned out to be a simple fix. So I hope it will be likewise for you. Good luck.

alright!

havent been on for a while but pop back now and again.

a months ago i got some more scratches and took some pics. They are however poor quality.

Bearing the position of them (back of my shoulder) and the fact i have no nails (well i do but they are short, dont be thinking im some kind of nail-less freak because im not)

here they are

They look quite different than mine....

I've had a thought about this. Do any of you that suffer scratches ever sweat at night? Infact I might start a poll up because I have a couple of thoughts. So I will go and do that now grin2.gif

Take the poll here

P.S you don't have to take part if you don't want to original.gif

Quick question, do all of the above with the problem have sensitive or pale skin? I have both and i too sometimes get little scratches, but it was being caused from the material my sheets from my bed were made of, not a allergic reaction but it just caused friction. not saying its the answer or whatever but hopefully it may help in a way.

I haven't read the other 13 pages so I'm hoping somebody has suggested :

Are you scratching yourself in your sleep or being scratched, clawed or marauded by a sleeping partner?
Got a dodgy spring poking through the mattress?
Own a cat?
Own a dog?
An errant reptile?
Bed mites? Probably

Seriously, who gives a toss about a few scratches, nicks or are they just allergies?. I get minor, inexplicable injuries all the time. Wake up with an arm missing and you have something to scream/conduct a poll about.

I get those on my lower legs alot, never have figured it out.

I used to get them on my back spontaneously while sitting at my desk at work about 4 years ago. they stopped, but just now I got three more on my arm while looking in the fridge. they appear out of nowhere, not while I'm sleeping. the scratches are also deep but thin and I have very short nails, there's no way I could've subconciously done them myself. does anyone else get them instantly like this, and not while sleeping?

Well, for years I've had night terrors, I would rarely remember them, but if my family saw me having one, they would wake me. This was because I would be digging at my face/arms with my fingernails as hard as I could. I would wake with strange scratches all over me, and wonder how the heck they got there until my family caught on. I don't do this as much anymore, but sometimes, I'll wake with scratches. I evidently do this to myself if I'm experiencing fear in a nightmare.

Not sure if that helps you, considering you say the scratches are in places you can't reach. But sometimes we can contort our bodies in odd ways if were dreaming.

Ok, here's my theory

I read somewhere that people doing "primal therapy" have made old wounds/bruises magically reappear. Just like past mental trauma of physical abuse can resurface causing panic attacks, so can some physical trauma. It's all connected.

So maybe you relive past times you were physically wounded in your dreams causing these marks to reappear.

Thanks for the post--That may be something to consider truly--Maybe i am re-living when i was little and my mother used to hit me with tree switches alot. These scratches aren't nearly as big though as those marks were! We used to think it was normal but i never saw the need to hit my child like that. Thanks again...

I too have been experiencing scratches over the last few weeks. They only seem to appear on my right forearm, and always while i'm asleep. The fact that they only appear on my right arm seems to indicate that the cause has nothing to do with bedbugs/linen/etc otherwise they should appear on other parts of my body. I'm known for doing weird things in my sleep, but i can't see how i could have inflicted these scratches as they look like they've been made by a pin or something very small and sharp, you couldn't replicate them with fingernails. Which in my mind leaves only 2 other possibilities, some kind of physical medical condition or some kind of expression of the subconscious mind. We shall see.....

Cheers,
Rob.

I myself have been receiving such things. They always appear around my pelvis/hip area. The scratches appear to be caused by pin too. I get quite often. After one 'batch' of scratches have healed, a couple days after another 'batch' will show up. The nature of the marks just shouts out that I did not cause them as in the case of the above user. They never hurt and I only notice them when I take a shower because the soap burns them.

o_O Weird. Atleast I know I'm not alone...

I am absolutely positive that I am not causing my scratches to appear. I've read many possible explainations here but none of them are true for me. Not only do I have extremely short fingernails and can't reach the places I've had scratches, but whenever I have a night terror (over even move around) my wife wakes up. She's a light sleeper. I've had scratches appear many nights when neither of us woke up. I felt well rested in the morning so I must have gotten a good night's sleep. Something is causing the scratches. I just don't know what.

i also experience this phenomenon, under my fingernails, about a 1mm line

Same here. I don't think I do it to myseld -_-

It's one of those weird things that I won't bother to investigate further, but would like to know more about original.gif

Hi new to the board and after reading some comments on here i thought i would post over the past few days i have been waking up with random bruises on my body ranging from dark purple to light browny ones in diff places like the back and side of my leg to my bum cheek and on my arms also but the weirdest thing is when i went to get my gf after her work we travel'd home and from getting off the bus to sitting down and having dinner a half bite appeared on my hand at the very bottom corner below my thumb i say half bite as it looks like the to half of someones teeth with a gap in then and no bottom teeth marks cause of the positin its very akward to do that type of bite and both my teeth and my gf have diff teeth marks to thae ones that appeared ( we compared with bites clos eto the one that appeared) any ideas what this could be and no she did not bite me and i forgot as i was making dinner (korma yummy) and she dint come near me.

I just read the beginning of this topic. It's quite a popular one i see!
I used to get lots of scratches when i'd wake up when i were little , but i used to believe that when i went asleep i went on adventures and little quests which caused me to get injured sometimes.
But i still get them sometimes which is kinda weird. I just put it down to having bitten my nails i've probably scratched myself when turning over or something.
Yet, I hear so many spooky noises in this house, which i believe is haunted, that who knows, i could have a ghostly cat who climbs on me and scratches me hehe.
But I do see what you mean, and I definately had the scratches more when i was little.
Great topic by the way original.gif

I am new here, having just found this site last night---but already I have read many posts from people who have had the same strange occurances as I have had!!! So, I can be honest with y'all I think!!!!

This is one that I haven't seen anyone write about yet; so if anyone has had this happen, please reply. Especially if you know what it is. Or what causes it.....I only know it's not me who causes it!!

It's just this: Ever since I was little, every now and then (enough that i would call it frequently) I notice these thin scratches in different places . They appear to be old scratches, a dark red color. But they wern't there when I went to sleep the night before. There is never any bleeding, but they are definitely scratches, always exactly the same stage of healing--they look like they were made with a needle---but they are of varying lengths.

You may think "hangnail", or "she does it to herself in her sleep" and that's what I would think if I were reading this. But I don't have hangnails, ever. And they appear on areas I can't reach, like the middle of my back. Usually it will be a long scratch across my stomach, but sometimes on my face or arms. The strange thing is they always look the same and it has happened all my life.

I have one of these "scratches" on my arm as we speak. My doctor checked them out and said they were caused by me moving around in my sleep and "pinching" lines into my skin whiched caused long, blood blisters that look like scratches. apparently its more common in people with thin blood. If I get a chance, ill take a picture of the scratches i have now and you can compare them to yours.

Which is the most likely explanation

I agree.
Rypnredi
I think it's been about two and a half years since I've written anything in this forum about the scratches that had been appearing on my arms. For those who have read this forum, you will know me as Rypnredi. For over a year , I woke up with thin scratches on my arms, which looked like they had been made with pins or needles, and always appeared dry and scabbed over. But there was one morning ... I had checked my arms, as was my habit, and had found them "clean", had felt a warm sensation on my right forearm a couple of hours later, and found two fresh lines, about an inch from each other, about four inches long.
Shortly after that time, my lover died of a massive heart attack, then, five weeks later, my Father died ... three days after I buried my Dad, one of my aunts passed away.
I "crashed and burned", went into a chronic and clinical depressive state for many months before regaining some state of "normal behaviour". Since that time, I have not received any more scratches.
Does anyone have an explanation for this?

Hi Ryp! I remember you--people do still write on this thread sometimes; I didn't realize it was still active until I got an email notification of your entry. I am so very sorry to hear about your losses. You must have been unbelievably heartbroken. That does seem like more than a person could possibly bear, especially that close together. I am so glad you seem to be feeling a little better. People say, and they are right, "These things take time"--the hardest part is that time itself seems to take so much time. Blessings to you, my friend.
There have been so many explanations offered on this thread for the mysterious scratches that so many people describe in exactly the same way. Most of these explanations are not viable. I have come to believe over the course of time that some people do, indeed, have a gift of insight. This gift can be to varying degrees, from the psychic who can call it at will and pronounce very definitive future or past events, to people who get a vague feeling and cannot control it, only to be surprised to find that they were correct. I cannot discount the possibility that there are those, too, whose psyche gets knowledge that my be subconscious to the recipient, but the message is so strong or important that the body somehow reacts to it. It seems reasonable in the light that people often experience physical reactions to psychological/emotional events (i.e., high blood pressure, stress ulcers, etc). So, to me, it doesn't seem out of the question that you could have known subconsciously about the deaths to come, just not been consciously aware of the psychic episode that that let you know in advance--and the red marks and warm feeling on your arm could be the body's response to this information. I am beginning to think that many things are spiritual in nature and that we may not be aware of them all just yet. If I were you, I would consider this one such case, and I would not really question it (that is, I am assuming the scratches didn't hurt you). You might, though, talk to someone who knows more about how to develop the potential for psychic abilities. There are some good sites for this. Try doing a general search and see what you come up with. I , myself, am more of the type that I get vague or sometimes clear but unpredictable clairvoyance and I cannot really call it up. It just happens when it happens, sort of a high level intuition in my case I think
Again, I am so sorry you had so much tragedy in such a short period of time--my best to you.

Love,
Scarlett

Who hashed this old thread up ? This is from 2005.

My son wakes up with scratches on his body but they stopped recently (last few months) and abruptly (all over his back).
