lol laugh.gif

I guess your right. Did you look in 50's album, the pictures in the little booklet? There is one picture where he is in a red car supposedly holding two auto machine guns 'supposedly' shooting at people somewhere on the front right of the car, supposedly 'massacring' them...

Last time I checked, 50 wasn't charged with shooting. You know, I just wish rappers would tell the truth instead of making up these gangster characters they claim to be.
DarkSinister
Haha, I know how you're feeling. I haven't got 50's album, i don't want to support him. I rather spend my money on an underground artist's cd or clothing that supports underground artists.

This is real we dont gotta pretend
The cold world that we in

That part is obvious...hahaha laugh.gif

I just got Beanie Sigel's album, it's pretty decent. I'm impressed at how he has progressed. Try listening to it on Amazon... thumbsup.gif
_hAiLO_
I got Faith Evans 'The First Lady'. Is Beanie Sigel R&B?
DarkSinister
How's Faith Evan's Cd? For some reason, I might go get Fantasia's album and Jean Grae's album. haha, well, unless I see some other cd's I want.

Beanie Sigel is hip hop, he's from the rocafella lable. I don't know if you want to spend money buying it, but worth a good listen. I especially like the first track "feel it in the air" and "I can't go on this way".

If you want to get a really good album, can't go wrong with Gang Starr - Moment of truth. I love this album, bought it a couple years ago and I'm still listening to it.
DarkSinister
Forgot to mention, John Legend's album is really good.
_hAiLO_
O yeah, John Legend is Legendary yes.gif .

About Faiths album, man it rocks! Some of the best R&B I have listened to, probably because its the first R&B Album i've purchased grin2.gif . I really love her songs , 'Again', 'Mesmerize', 'Tru Love', 'Jealous', and 'Lucky Day'. I think she should make a music video out of 'Tru Love', I really think that should be her next single. Twista's 'Hope' is in there too. Now Faith made me love R&B.

I might check out Beanie Sigel though, maybe I might buy it. I also might buy Fat Joes, 'All or Nothing' soon. It took him a year to make that album, so I hope its good.
MichaelS
I'm a Run DMC, Kool Moe Dee, DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince fan.

I'm not much for Gangsta Rap.
DarkSinister
Will Smith has a new cd out, I wonder how good it is. Supposedly it's suppose to be his best. I will go and listen to it; if i like it, i'll buy it. The other artist you listed are great too.

You caught my interest in the Faith Evan's cd, I'll go check it out. R&B is great, but latetly, I haven't heard much of a buzz about it. It kinda sucks that it has work out that way. Houston's cd has some R&B flavor and i think Marques Houston is coming out with a new cd soon. But seriously, you must check out the Gang Starr cd, hahah i love it. Beanie Sigel just got incarcerated i think, he's going to be in jail for awhile.

Take a listen to it Here

Edit: Gang Starr - Moment of Truth
Mr. Blonde
The only good 'rap' is from early, EARLY 90's previous, hell I dont know any of it, but you dont need to be a genius to see how e'ffn bad all this 'rap' is today. A boom boom chhh! A boom boom chhh! Its not music, I could go on forever to express my hatred of rap, honestly, I should write a book. But seriously, if you listen and LIKE new rap today, your just another sucker.

You cant spell cRAP without...
_hAiLO_
Maybe you should prove to me that the music you listen to isn't as bad as the music I listen to.

BTW, this is a Rap Appreciation Thread. Can you please tell me why your off-topic?

DarkSinister: I listened to Beanie Sigel, man. His lyrics are true, I'll think about getting his album.
The Roswell Man
any word of donell jones? i thought he was a great R&B singer.

Though this may be true about the mainstream rap or hip hop of today, it doesn't apply to the whole spectrum of what is out there. You listen to what you hear on the radio and believe that is all there is to hip hop, but there's so much more that lies below the tip of the iceberg. If you really want to hear the quality music of hip hop, then you must look deeper and below the iceberg. Besides the early 90's, there has been great music prior and even after this period; it's just not as popular. As I've stated before, many other genre of music has also been watered down through the media, it's not just hip hop. You're basically hating on a type of music you don't really know much about and stereotyping that hip hop music is a certain way just because you don't like it. If you took the time to appreciate and learn about it, you may change your mind. One thing i love about hip hop is that it is versatile; it can incorporate any other genre of music and produce quality sounds, beats, and rhythm. Even the lyrics the emcees speak are deep and has meaning. You're whole idea of hip hop is what you're hearing from the radio and nothing more. If you really can write a whole book or even a response about what's so bad about hip hop, I'll gladly read it with enthusiasm.

Donell Jones is great. His latest album was out 2-3 years ago; I haven't heard much from him ever since though. It would be cool if they had a revival of R&B.

I'm not much of a fan of old school music hmm.gif . I think lyrics take you far, but sometimes the beat needs to go along with it. I think the major defect on me is that I didn't grow up listening to old school.
DarkSinister
ahhh really? Well, it's not too old school, it's from the 98. Haha, maybe it's cause you're not really use to the underground sound. Try listening to track number 8(Moment of Truth) or 13(she Knowz what she wantz). The Mini Clip does not do the songs justice though. If you want, I can rip it off my cd and send it to you.

You might try listening to some of these songs to get you interested or more use to the sound of it:
Hieroglyphics - "You Never Knew" and "Miles to the sun"
A Tribe Called Quest - "Find A Way" , "Can I kick it", and "Bonita Applebum"
Mos Def Ft. Talib Kweli - "Astronomy"
Talib Kweli - Never been in love
Nice and Smooth - Sometimes I Rhyme Slow
Little Brother - Whatever You Say Remix

Some of them have more of a upbeat mainstream feel, if you can't get them, i'll be happy to upload them.
_hAiLO_
Hey, thank you for the suggestions original.gif . I feel kinda guilty because I'm not to hooked to Old School when it is the glory of Hip-Hop hmm.gif .

I have heard of Talib Kweli's 'Never been in love' before, and I love that one grin2.gif . I'll check out the suggestions, I'll like some of them. If the beats don't make it happen, the lyrics will.
DarkSinister
Haha, well, the thing with most of these songs is that you can't really appreciate any of it until a good listen to it a couple of times. I remember when I was first introduce to underground hip hop and old school stuff, I didn't really like it due to me only listening to mainstream. After some really good listen, I couldn't believe what I was missing out on. Once you get into it, it's really tight going through all the great cd's that are out there that are being slept on. As for the beats, they're pretty good. It's just some new sounds you need to adjust yourself to listen to it. They're unique and different which may take time to getting use to. Oh you also might want to check out Foreign Exchange, they're hip hop a bit of jazz, soul and R&B and are somewhat new.

Edit: Blackalicious - Alphabet Aerobics
Hieroglyphics - You Never Knew
Foreign Exchange - Be Allright Remix
A Tribe Called Quest - Find A Way
Little Brother - Whatever You Say Remix
Nice And Smooth - Sometimes I Rhyme Slow
Mos Def - The Panties

Hope you enjoy these songs. original.gif Tell me if you want more. Hopefully I'm allowed to do this too... tongue.gif
_hAiLO_
Hey, you've done a lot for me, I thank you for your generous contribution grin2.gif . I'll give it a listen, I know i'll appreciate old school enough soon. Sometimes mainstream can really get into my head, but i'll listen to old school now original.gif .
DarkSinister
I just listened to Faith Evans Cd last night at virgin record store at the block. I must say, im impressed. I really liked again and tru love. I don't remember any other songs...hahah. I need to go buy it when i get my paycheck next week. Thank you for telling me about it.

Oh and I'm happy to post those songs up...it's cool when people take the time to listen to them. Hope you enjoy them though. It's cool to get these cats recognized...oh that reminds me, check out typical cats. hahaha. I like their song "Any Day". grin2.gif
_hAiLO_
Yeah, I got into Faith Evans after her collaboration with Twista in 'Hope' grin2.gif . Its cool. I'll check out Typical Cats, I think i've heard of them before...I don't know. But i'll check them out.
The Nameless One
Eminem is God, but Buddah is coming.

TNO..... cool.gif
DarkSinister
Eminem is alrite i guess, don't like him much. Jamie Foxx is coming out with a new cd, i'll be waiting on that to see how it is. happy.gif
Freespyryt24
well I didn't read threw everyones faves but here are mine. It is funny cause I used to hate rap and now, I love it as much as the other music I love..

Eminem
Snoop
Dr. Dre
Ice Cube
Makaveli
Tupac
Biggie
Esham
Red and Method
Outkast
Busta
Bone Thugs n harmony
dayton family
Ludacrus
Missy Elliot
Lil kim
50 cent (g unit)
to name a few that I can think of at the top of my head....

I pretty much don't like some of the newer groups cause they just spit out gibberish and it isn't good rap it's nuthin but crap. And they run around with horrible videos with flashing their chains and gold teeth... thug a licious.. I wish there was more talent like biggie, tupac, em and dre, and snoop ah hell my list...
_hAiLO_
hehe, don't you hate it when the beat and the lyrics aren't even that good, and then they flash their chain and money at the camera? OMG! I don't hate G-Unit because their beats are sweet and their lyrics are true to the Gangster Rap(not nesassarily hip-hop in my category).

I remember seeing some videos in VH1/BET/MTV where....aghhh...I just don't like...
Freespyryt24
If it has a great beat I really enjoy it or the lyrics are funny or just good. Like that new song on Eminems Encore. Something I like they way you shake that A$$, you make my P.P go boing boing boing boing. Cracks me up. (I don't know am I allowed to say P.P.?)

I just don't like when the artist takes out the art of rap. I don't remember what video I was watching the other day but it was horrible. These two hoodlum looking characters with a gold tooth and huge bling, makes you think how the hell they got em cause they are horrible. augh!
hyuugaNeji
I'm surprised nobody mentioned cassidy. dude is bringing rap back with I'm a hustla. IMO i think he could be the best rapper. cuz he's sick with the flow and punchlines.
_hAiLO_
I really liked Common's lyrics and beats. Cassidy's "I'm a Hustler" is good, but is he really a hustler? I remember one of his lyrics: " more money , more problem is true cause the more money I make the more problem for you". I didn't like that hmm.gif .
FLY SPITTA
I don't like Cassidy he's not really a hustler he grew up in a normal house in Philly. He sold things, but nothing you know.... But I don't like his song "I'M a Hustler" He had to use Jay Z's voice in the chorus just to sell.

On his last album it took him 3 months to go gold! Most rappers go PLATINUM in 3 months.
DarkSinister
Yeah, i dont like cassidy either, he's too much of "hip pop". Same with G-unit, but i have to admit, they have some catchy songs. Bone Thugs and Harmony kept it real, they're starting on their album, I'm looking foward to it.
hyuugaNeji
"WHAT" is that the only song ya'll heared by cassidy. man is a problem for 50 and every body in tha game right now. have you heared the cassidy vs freeway battle. cassidy's freestyles.
_hAiLO_
I remember going to the BET.com website where they had a clip of Cassidy freestyling, and being in the top 6(I guess) in Rap City.

I could try and get the file...

Are you saying Cassidy is giving trouble to everyone in the game right now? His punchlines aren't that great and his lyrics are whacked..."I date chick with fake tits and tummy tucks, they love the **ucking, i got lots of condoms..i just go on my block to find em." blink.gif

Maybe he can stay in competition against some in the mainstream, but his lyrics and flows are whack.

Immortal Technique will whoop him..
_hAiLO_
Are you serious? I don't think Cassidy can compete with the Mainstream...I don't even like the beat for 'I'm a Hustler', let alone the lyrics(tis my opinion).

I think Common entered 106 & Parks top ten though clap.gif . Some of the unexpected things...I found myself listening to my Lloyd Banks: 'Hunger for More' to much while I brush, and ride in the car dontgetit.gif . And some Faith Evans here and there...

What CD's have you been listening to?
DarkSinister
Haha, i just heard on power 106 that 50 is going to be in some movie about his life or something. He supposedly did a lot of crying...man, he's getting softer than ja.
DarkSinister
Cassidy freestyles all right, but there's nothing special about him, he just sucks. Hahaha. There's many other emcees that are getting slept on that deserve to be given some respect.

As for cd's I'm currently listening to: Foreign Exchange - Connected, Living Legends - Classic, The Roots - The Tipping Point, Aesop Rock - Fast Cars, Danger, Fire and Knives, and Talib Kweli - The Beautiful Struggle.
_hAiLO_
Yeah, he is making a movie...he already made a video game, he owns his own radio station and clothing line, guess he 'got rich or died trying'.

I wonder if people will get tired of him...but I do agree, he might be softer than Ja Rule(listening to his New York, New York right now grin2.gif ).

BTW, The Roots and Talib Kweli are some of the good ones out there laugh.gif .
DarkSinister
Haha yeah they're good. It's somwhat better that some underground artists are crossing over into the mainstream. I mean, they still make a lot better music than most of the other cats. They get heard this way. I guess that's a postive side of it, even though I rather them stick to underground. But hey, can't blame them, got to make the paper to support themselves.

As for 50, G-unit, and Em, I give them credit for them knowing how to promote their music and getting people to buy their albums. Even though many people are buying it, it doesn't mean it's good, it just means that there's a lot of bandwagon hoppers. laugh.gif If Nas actually tried coming out with something against 50, then there's a chance people will start hating him, but then that's not going to happen. There's too much people that have been brainwashed into buying his cd. Either that or 50 bought a load of his own albums..haha
DarkSinister
oh yeah, did you hear the diss sheek Louch did...clickety clank?

check it out
http://www.d-blockworld.com/media/01-sheek...t_diss)-prz.mp3
_hAiLO_
You know, I wonder so many times why people all over the world would buy his CD. For one thing, I buy Faith Evans CD because it has good music, 50's album has good music. But I don't know why they don't pay attention to the lyrics sometimes. If you hear the Intro to his CD, its quite violent and I couldn't imagine, say a rock star buying his album...

Usher, he got a lot of girls to get his album, and I can see why...its cool, he makes romance songs. But 50, yeah...there is probably a romance song in there, but I always thought the gun shots in his songs would prusuade people not to buy his album.

And a second thought, I just wish people would buy some of the underground music like you said. Some of the underground artists that hopped into the mainstream like Talib Kweli, its cool, its to get the money going...and sometimes to get their music going around the world so people can relate to his music and feel it.

QUOTE(DarkSinister @ Apr 20 2005, 04:00 PM)
Either that or 50 bought a load of his own albums..haha

OMG! That would be so funny!
DarkSinister
I think 50 has an image appeal to the "thug life" that is so popularized now. Well, around here, little youngin' bump his music and don't really listen to the lyrics, just the beats. I think it's mostly like that, the beats is what makes the song now. I wonder what some of these other underground artists will do with those kind of beats, they'll tear it up! But yeah, i think it's mostly MTV and the radio that's making him popular. Whatever is on MTV will get respect by the teeny boppers. Though there are some channels such as VH1 soul that plays some underground video.
_hAiLO_
I agree, underground rappers would really create that music I dream to hear one day in a music video...and actually becomes the top in billboard charts. They put 50's Candy Shop up there once...besides the beats, I don't know why.
DarkSinister
Yeah, that would be awesome if there was a breakout underground artist that will get that far with still keeping it real. It's cool they have to sell out a little to get heard though, like how mos def, talib kweli, common, de la soul, the roots, and others are keeping it. Have you ever seen Brown Sugar? Man, that movie tells everything about what happened to hip hop, they even have a lot of the underground artist in it. Check out VH1, they've been showing the movie lately.
DarkSinister
They're showing it right now and I'm watching it, I love this movie and the music in it. Check it out, i highly recommend it.
_hAiLO_
I'll check my TV listings, thanks thumbsup.gif .

wait...Brown Suger...yeah.

Is anyone interested if I make a thread where members post lyrics just about anything(its not battle rapping)? Its just like an expression of, say what happened today. And we go to the thread and write lyrics that go along a hip-hop beat.

Not trying to be posers and all, its so we can read each others rhymes...thought it would be a cool idea.

n/m....bad idea.
Super Pancake
I did not like Brown Sugar because it made hip-hop seem like there is only one original way to express it, but hip-hop is about keeping it real so it could be anything even if it is sometimes mainstream zombie bling bling big booty I'm a gangster music. And plus the cheesy romance stuff was boring.

Anyway I wanted to talk about my paper that I was writing about hip-hop and give an update on it. At first I was just going to write about the origins and the revolutionary movement of hip-hop that gave inner city black teens a voice. Now I feel uncomplete there is this book I read recently "Where You're At" by Patrick Neate. a great book but what it made me realize hip-hop is not only a revolutionary cultural movement for young black teens but for all teens in the U.S. and all over the world. This guy talked about his experiences of hip-hop in London, tokyo, Johannesburg, rio De Janeiro, And Cape Town very good stuff. So now I'm expanding my paper to how hip-hop affected the world internationally, however it will be biased because it will be my opinion of their hip-hop culture.

I want to know though do you guys listen to hip-hop from other countries? I heard of a rapper named MC Solaar representing France should be one of the greatest in my opinion if we view hip-hop as an international culture. im also listening to Dizzie Rascal from London reminds me of the sort of goofball comedy rappers like Afroman and Busta Rhymes. Anyway looks like i'm going to take a little more time and research to write my paper.

What do you thing of my title my research paper.
Represent: The Cultural Phenomenon of Hip-hop From Birth to International Recognition.
DarkSinister
Hmm, I don't really listen to artists from other countries, but I've listen to Dizzie Rascal, Classified, and Kourichi(I think that's how you spell it). There's not many other that I have heard. I wonder if people from other countries would be able to give their input on what the hip hop scene is like over there, you can probably include that into your essay. I'll read the link when I have more time, it seems really interesting. As for the title, it's good. What does the represnt part stand for though? That part is kind of confusing. Hopefully you'll progress far in the essay because I'm looking foward to read it. happy.gif
_hAiLO_
Yeah, I think I didn't understand the title with its big words blink.gif .

However, I think I have listened to rap from the Philippines cause my causins have been there. Quite similar to the 'American' hip-hop. I like how your mentioning that Hip-Hop influenced many teens across the world, because I think thats true. Just make the title a little bit more simple, but phenomenal in those words, and i'll look forward to reading your paper original.gif .
