Any real Hip-Hop freestylers out there? I know Freestyle Rap is a part of hip-hop(am I correct?), but I don't think you need to combine gangsta rap in it...

hyuugaNeji well good freestyle but one troubling thing about it is that I don't believe you, I wonder if your really this gangster your portraying yourself to be. you got some strong words for a freestyle and you know how the deal is in hip-hop are you real or just a poser. If you are a real gangster and want to pursue gangster rap more power to you, if your not come on rap about whats real about yourself hip-hop is about keeping it real, representing who you are.

Well all rappers are not gangsters in the traditional sense of the word but gangster is used as an exaggerated term for criminal, basically I'm a gangster sounds better then I'm a drug dealer. ALL gangster rappers are inspired by Tony Montana and the God Father movies, real bad asses that run ****. It's kind of sad that these Gangster rappers are inspired by them when there nothing like the mafia.
"Matisyahu" has any of you heard this guy he is a reggae artist (I did not want to start a new thread for reggae i don't think any body in U.M. would like it as much as I do). The funny thing about him he is a jew! He calls himself the "Hasidic Reggae Superstar." Anyway he is the best reggae artist I ever heard after i downloaded some of his songs. It seems left field but I never heard so much flow and inspiration lyrics like his in my life., even better then Bob Marly. check out his site
Matisyahu: the Hasidic Reggae Superstar.

Also if you guys can find this song

Shingo2, and Yeshua. It's kind of slow at first but Shingo2 got a wicked freestyle on that one. I don't know how your going to find the song legally on the net could not find a good site but I got it via p2p. oh yeah speaking of Japanese mc's Shingo2 is Japanese at one point inthe freestyle he raps in Japanese which flows well but I don't know what is he talking about.

QUOTE(2PAC4LIFE @ Apr 18 2005, 11:16 PM)
I don't like Cassidy he's not really a hustler he grew up in a normal house in Philly. He sold things, but nothing you know.... But I don't like his song "I'M a Hustler" He had to use Jay Z's voice in the chorus just to sell.
On his last album it took him 3 months to go gold! Most rappers go PLATINUM in 3 months.

I finally heard some of Cassidy's new music and I think you missed the point, Cassidy was just echoing Jigga being a hustler in the game the rap game to be specific. What many people kind of mis interpret about Jay-Z is that he is a sell out, but he is far from it. When Jay says he's a "hustler" he means that he is making money (duh) but it is followed by "in the rap game" or something in similar fashion. So before Jay-Z was raping he was making paper in what way he could (the drug game) because he's a hustler. Now he is in a new game the rap game he is still a hustler but now he makes his money in the rap industry so he never sold out he just is making money and proud of it. So Cassidy being once an underground rapper is now making money mainstream. So in fact whether he is real or fake he is just saying now he is making paper in the rap game and that's it. But because America is dumb they really don't get that rappers are feeding them bull****.
Remember Jay-Z's first album almost nobody understood it because it was to complex, despite the lyrical genius Jay-Z is he dumbed down his lyrics because he was like F it, I want to make money. Don't you guys notice from then on Jay-Z's lyrical rhythm has been the same formula he has an idea but he cuts it up with a punch line like Jigga what, or my nigga, a laugh etc to make it simple and catchy. A clever move if you want to sell records because like I said america is full of dumb-asses. Same thing with Cassidy he cut's his rhymes with "Im a hustler", its simply to listen to and its catchy. Its sad that these artist have to sacrifice there talents just to make money.
I don't blame the artist for trying to make a living, but what gives mainstream a bad name is the lack of depth of the opinionated public of America. When they here a catchy song they are like yeah that joint is fresh, and the lyrics could be literally nothing but crap.

And _hAiLO_ (new name) the difference between an emcee and a rapper in my opinion when hip-hop started to be commercialized, Not everything could have been sold only a specialized part of hip-hop music could be sold. A rapper is somebody that raps for cash basically as well as an emcee, but the difference lies in the talent and the environment. An emcee is a 24/7 job he can freestyle on the dime on any beat by the DJ for any crowd. A rapper does not stress on that pressure, he comes with already written lyrics, on a beat that he already recognize, also on the stage the rapper will have props (girls, an entourage, ice, and some other gimmick) to hype up the crowd rarely a rapper can do that just by his or her skills or presence.
If a rapper was to battle an emcee, the emcee would rip the rapper up badly. The emcee can easily freestyle on what the DJ spins and even on the fly rap to the cuts, scratches and even the skips if the DJ messed up, While the rapper could freestyle, if the DJ ever breaks the beat by scratching or skipped the record the Rapper will stop and look at the DJ like it was his fault he stopped rapping

I remember reading biographies of rappers like Jadakiss, Cassidy, or even LL Cool J and they had an impressive history of freestyling for the neighborhood and winning competitions since they were 12 years old. I was very impressed, but I guess they lose their emcee talent when they start focusing in making the money.
I guess an emcee wouldn't want to sign up with a record label, but just freestyle or make music for his own fun and benefits? Cause thats big in the heart, no craving for money/fame/fortune.

But yeah, about the kid hailo, he probably is a b-boy. Surprisingly, little kids learn pretty damn quick and are pretty good.
Have any of you seen the show Dance 360? My friend and I went on it, he actually got to go into it and dance. haha. If you ever watch it, maybe you'll see him, he has long hair and his name his Dino.

Jadakiss, one of the greatest spitters of this era, knows who he would like to see go on tour this summer. "I'm a real old-school n---a," he said recently. "I was just thinking about Grand Puba, Rakim, Kool G Rap. Them n---as could sell some units with the right backing behind them. Them n---as would slaughter it. If Kool G Rap, KRS-One, Rakim and Big Daddy Kane went on tour, it would be nuts. Then after the tour they do an album — they could easily get money."

Freestyle champ Cassidy has taken off his boxing gloves and decided to focus more on the pursuit of excellence in songmaking. But that doesn't mean he won't rise to a challenge.
"I'm always in my battle-ready mode," Cassidy said. "I'm always ready to go at it. I did say I was the battle champion. I retired undefeated like Rocky Marciano. Anybody that was somebody in the game when I was doing it, I murdered them. I was out there, all day, every day. Now, there's no reason for me to come out of retirement unless it's gonna be some big fight."
The streets have been asking Cassidy about the possibility of a couple of battles, though. On the recent "The Come Up, Volume 4" DVD, up-and-comer Murder Mook called Cassidy out, and several weeks ago on Hot 97, 50 Cent warned the MC to watch his mouth as well. Cassidy had words for them both.
"The first cat you named, I never even heard of him," he said, referring to Mook. "He don't got no situation, he can't even ride the beat. The kid is a clown. The second kid [50 Cent], said I better watch it. That's my type of ballgame. I would get involved with that [battle], 'cause I got something to gain. The kid might be appealing to a bigger fanbase than me, I might can snatch a few fans. But I'm focusing on my music. Make history, turn the females on, keep it moving."

Sorry about CA, breaking ain't all that dead but if you by chance meet some b-boys or b-girls its mostly they are breaking for money and not battling, occasionally I hit up www.bboyworld.com to see if there are any events coming up, but after that NYC is quite when it comes to breaking. In matter of fact NYC is loosing that hip-hop appeal, now a days its hip-hop but you don't notice it, which is cool but when your unconscious about it you start to lose the individuality of what hip-hop is in my opinion. These days everybody comes off as generic hip-hop commercial wannabe's. Travelers from out of state will notice the hip-hop culture but New Yorkers will be like whatever its just how I live.

So are there a lot of emcees there trying to get record deals? There are some here that collaborate with each other to produce songs and put them on soundclick, most of them are from the bay area though. Did you rap or do you still? I tried writing lyrics, dabble in that area for a bit, but i just suck..hahaha, just not my thing. I'm trying to learn how to work the turntable though, it's pretty cool.

There are a lot of emcee, but trying to get a record deal most likely not, in a prior post I wrote that mostly everybody in NYC can rap and are cynical. I do rap and write sometimes its something to do when I'm with my friends.
Turntables, I tried scratching a while back I was good at it but I only saw it as a hobby, have not done it in a while though.

P.S. The beat to Birdmans 'Neck of the Woods' makes me feel rich

The beat is o.k. but lyrics

another song about how much money they got, at least they did not mention their baby momma I think.

Yeah, I quite agree. The lyrics aren't me, but i'd like to write something to give that beat something its worth for

. Nothing rich though, but for a more 'representative' atmosphere.

After I saw the video clip in the site you gave me, i'd really like to see this show! It looks like it has a lot of energy in it. Maybe i'll catch Dino

I really like Jadakiss too, I really like his lyrics. I'm not too much into the romance songs he wrote, but more to the other songs that aren't romance. I'd like to see Jadakiss go against Cassidy, but in a friendly way. Cassidy and Jadakiss against 50, 50 would get burned, but I won't count on seeing this situation.
