And should I get Fat Joe 'All or Nothing' or Common 'Be' in May 24?
FLY SPITTA

hip-hop is not something you learn its something you live, you gotta find your own hip-hop and keep it real, no fake stuff. You aint a ganster or a thug so don't act like one, unless I'm mistaken by your avatar, anyway just be real don't follow that mainstream certified BS and do your thing. One aspect about hip-hop that is not practise much, is the search, a search for hip-hop whatever your interested in many hip-hop heads just take whatever is given to them and just copy it. Find your hip-hop and make it your own.

Hey guys been leaving the thread cold, been occupied by the PS3 thread sorry about that, I checked some of the post and some nice lyrics where put up. I'll post mines when I get a chance. Right now I got to go to classes.
DarkSinister
Wow this thread does look like it has been cold! haha. My last two finals are tomorrow, so my schedule will be a little more free, but I still got to work and camp pendleton. BLAH!

Anyhow, Common's albumb "Be" is out today, I'm going to go get my copy after this post! grin2.gif I don't know about Mike Jone's album, not really into his stuff. He got a bad rating for his album too.

Learn more about hip hop? Basically what pancake said..haha. You're in LA? I recommend heading out to some bboy events to get a feel of what hip hop is like. I'll keep you posted when there's one in LA. You can watch my crew and I break too. original.gif
FLY SPITTA
Yeah I might be leaving this forum for a while keep this thread alive! My internet at home messed up so i can only go on the net at school and over summer if it don't get fixed....im gone.....
FLY SPITTA

Young Bolivians Adopt Urban U.S. Pose, Hip-Hop and All
By JUAN FORERO

EL ALTO, Bolivia, May 24 - This sprawling city on Bolivia's windswept high plains, home to nearly 800,000 Indians, is a tradition-bound place where the language is Aymara, the women wear derby hats and layer-cake skirts and families relax to centuries-old Andean music, which is heavy on pipes but devoid of lyrics.

In other words, not exactly the place you would expect to find a thriving, politically charged rap culture.

But El Alto - a flash point for protest and the capital of indigenous Bolivia - is seething, and a growing number of young Aymara are expressing their anger in a hard-driving rap, complete with rapid-fire lyrics excoriating Bolivia's leaders and venting about the dire social conditions of the country's Indian majority.

Adopting the trappings of American hip-hop, young Aymara wear baggy pants and baseball caps and strike the pose of urban America, hand signs, cocky talk and all.

Their inspiration, though, comes straight from Bolivia's recent tumultuous history: the fall of President Gonzalo Sánchez de Lozada in October 2003 after protests in which 60 Indian demonstrators were killed, the bitter struggle over development of Bolivia's huge natural gas reserves, the indignation over the Washington-financed eradication of coca and the desperate poverty.

"We have lyrics about Black October," said Abraham Bojórquez, 22, the natural leader of a group of about 20 rappers. "We sing about coca, about poverty. Our singing is revolutionary. We protest without marches or strikes. We do it through music, to reach as many people as possible."

In the song "Jichaw" - Aymara for "Now" - the chorus, also in Aymara, captures the fervor of Bolivia's emboldened Indians: "Now we are speaking. Now they will know us. Now we will rise up." Switching to Spanish, the rappers then sing of how "the revolution has started, against the system and the state."

The rappers, belonging to groups with names that translate as, for example, Insane Race, the Lyrical Urban Movement and the Clandestines, often mix Aymara with their Spanish. Their songs combine a strong love of their country with a deep resentment toward those who have oppressed and exploited it, whether insiders or outsiders.

"Proud to be born in my Bolivia," goes one song by Lyrical Urban Movement, "though a land wounded by oppressors who call themselves defenders of my land."

In "The People Do Not Fall," written by Mr. Bojórquez and performed by his two-man rap group, Ukamau y Ke, whose nearly untranslatable name means, literally, "like it is and what," the lyrics seek to capture the violence to which indigenous protesters have been subjected. It heaps scorn on the former president, Mr. Sánchez de Lozada, widely known by his nickname, Goni, and condemns the state for selling Bolivia's natural gas.

"Goni, inept, the people ask for gas; the people ask for peace," the lyrics go. "Goni, understand, the gas is not for sale, because the people depend on democracy - they demand their rights."

Another song, "Blessed People," by the Clandestines, captures the fighting spirit of a downtrodden Indian community. "Blessed people wounded; how many times have you fallen?" the Clandestines wrote. "But I never leave; I live where I love. I survive. I say what I think, what I am. It's cold; the streets are with me."

With little money and virtually no experience with commercial music, the rappers in El Alto get their rap out through a cutting-edge radio station, Wayna Tambo, which also serves as a youth center. On their radio show, "Rincón Callejero," or "The Street Corner," the rappers play their music, interview players in El Alto's budding hip-hop culture, talk politics and ham it up.

The one CD the rappers recorded, called "Wayna Rap," sells robustly on the streets of El Alto, pirated by the hundreds - just as the rappers like. "I do not live off hip-hop, and I did not plan to," said Grover Canaviri, 23, who sings for the Clandestines. "I do not care if my music is pirated. The money is not important. What we want is to send out our lyrics so they can influence."

Still, the rappers hope to record professionally, something Abraham Bojórquez is on his way to doing with one of Bolivia's foremost musicians, Álvaro Montenegro.

"The music is very left, almost from the 70's, an institutional left, but at the same time it sounds fresh, like original Bolivian music," said Mr. Montenegro, who first met the rappers while teaching music to young people at Wayna Tambo.

Mr. Montenegro says the rappers need to shed some of the North American flavor in their rap and incorporate Bolivian touches, like using highland wind instruments as background music. The rappers say they are open to suggestions, but they explain that it was easy to find inspiration, and style, for their music from black urban America.

"We're also discriminated against for being dark, for not having money," said Rodolfo Quisbert, 19. "That's why we like hip-hop."

Life in El Alto is hard. People live in drab adobe or cinder-block homes. There is no heat to ward off the frigid winds that whip off snow-capped mountains. Most people work in Bolivia's informal economy, selling what they can on the streets. Crime and infant mortality are common.

"We grew up with nothing to eat, a breakfast with just chuño," a type of freeze-dried potato, Mr. Canaviri said. "We didn't even know what lunch was."

A life filled with hardship, though, yields a rich harvest of material.

"I say what I see, what I feel, what I think, the thinking of the people here," Mr. Canaviri said. "I put all of that in my lyrics."

DarkSinister you watch MTV! ohmy.gif
DarkSinister
Damn that's a nice article. It's good to hear how hip hop is spreading like wildfire around the world, but these guys are keeping it real. Much respect to them, hope they get heard...

Yeah i watch MTV sometime just to see Vanessa Minillo...she's hot! Haha, but then i don't even watch mtv or even tv that much. I ususally watch VH1 soul, they play a lot of oldies.

Common's CD is pretty good, but it's damn short, only 11 tracks! There must be a hidden track or two on this cd somewhere..
Super Pancake
11 tracks! disgust.gif thats weak he got nothin to say or somethin, but I bet they sound good right, what is the best song in there besides the single(s) in your opinion.

DarkSinister I only asked because I really hate MTV, but real world is alright. Vh1 I love all there channels but they come short on the hip-hop.

Vanessa Minillo she is pretty, Ciara is o.k., Mariah Carrie is the bomb. I think Alisha Keys is hot, and I don't care what you guys say Kelly Clarkson is my cool rocker chick, and I love her music, even though she is the first American Idol which is lame as hell.
DarkSinister
Yeah, there's some bonus dvd thing, but I rather get some extra tracks instead of that. To me, the whole album is pretty good, but I don't know why everyone is saying this is his best cd because personally I thought "Can I Borrow a Dollar?" and "Resurrection" is better. It's still pretty good though; it's better than some of the more recent cd's he put out. Standout tracks besides the single will probably be "Chi City", "The Food", "Love Is", "They Say", "faitful" and "It's Your World". Actually, most of the songs were good or ok, just maybe testify is a bit short. Anyhow i'd pick this LP over any other artist out at the moment *cough* fiddy*cough* But yeah, out of 5 stars...i'll give it a 4 or 4.5.

haha Vanessa Minillo is HOT! I also think Amerie is pretty. But I must agree on alica keys..DAMN! Mariah Carey is still looking pretty good for her age though, pretty surprised. I thought Christian Christian was hot on the first american idol, but not anymore.........

What other genres of music do you guys listen to? I listen to almost anything expect for country and trance. BLAH.

Super Pancake
what's up Darksinister

To tell you the truth rock is my favorite genre, to bad it died in the U.S., I also like cabaret, ballad, jazz, porn groove laugh.gif , oldies, slow jams, techno, and tribal, any other genre is cool also, music is music, I don't discriminate
DarkSinister
Hahah that's cool. I listen to Hawaiian music too, can't get enough of that! Damn, this thread is hella dead, what happened?! Summer school is already starting next monday for me, suckkkkss. Imma get an ipod, put some songs in it and bump it through class. cool.gif
_hAiLO_
Sorry...I kinda spend some time on this thread where it revolves around people battling out each other.

Danm...some people, now I kinda know why there is a huge difference between mainstream rap and ordinary rap music.

Go here:
http://www.aznraps.com/forums/

You might have to register to vote in some music, or battles for that matter...let alone even read some of the posts.
Super Pancake
I check out that site all the time well recently at least because of my research paper I only read the post though, I remember the first time I was on Aznraps like in 2001, it was whack. laugh.gif now its a banging community, who is your favorite mc on the site hAiLo!
DarkSinister
Hey, I've actually checked out that site a couple of times. The Far East Movement seems pretty tight to me. I've checked out their sight and everything. You guys might check them out and tell me what you think of them.
_hAiLO_
Hey...I did know you guys go there laugh.gif . Well, I'd have to say (so far) that my favorite MC is either Jin who made it to mainstream, or Intrakate.

Well, just to let you know that my name there is 'RedemptioN'. What are your names there? I might check you out.
DarkSinister
I don't have a name there, just browse around the forum, haha. Check out Far East Movement though, they're tite! The reason i heard about asian raps is off of one of Jin's song. Did you hear that he quit though? He has a song out about it and it's raw! If he actually had more songs out like that, he would've made a very good album. I think RR played him off as a gimmick of chinese way too much. That is his downfall. He needs to sign with a different label and keep on trying to prove everyone wrong.
_hAiLO_
Yeah, I did hear that Jin quit...kinda dissapointed though. Maybe he should have signed on with Interscope/Slim Shady Records, where a black and white dude are boss.

I did hear about the Far East Movement, I remember listening to one of their songs...I think 'Food Fight'? They were pretty bangin, lyrically. Thats the problem at times, and I don't like it. Some people have really good lyrics, and yet the deliver/projection and beat isn't so good.
DarkSinister
Oh is that the one with Jin? I didn't really like that song, but the other ones were pretty chill. Everyones been saying that Jin should've signed with shady/aftermath, but i think he would've done good on Roc-a-fella. His joint with Kanye is pretty damn good...would've like to see more of that. I also read some article on aznraps about dj Quik mentioning him, it'll be cool if they did a collabo...but I guess freestyling is more of Jin's forte.
Super Pancake
Its sad what happened to Jin but I hope he does not give up, but I don't see it as a gimmick that he is chinese he is "Chinese." but i do blame the label RR is whack DMX and Eve where the only good rappers that kept that label alive, now there gone I don't know one rapper from that label.
Super Pancake
now that I got some free time on my hand (school finished for me yesterday) I got some time to write some new lyrics checkthis out recently the u.S. and U.N> charged the Sudanes govt with genocide, but did no do anything about it because of the troubles in Iraq.

Yo good evening ladies and gents
Welcome to the jungle I’m about to drop a bundle
Of knowledge to your brain….insane no just cynical
Call me the pinnacle of reason its that season again
When the voice in my mind tell me its that time again
To unleash the beast and spit the rhyme buggin my mind again
Hip-hop is where its at, so where you at
I took a hit from this good sh**
The pressure in my lungs is high
So brace yourself I’m about to exhale
And take it to another level

Let me take you to Sudan the land
Of mans inhumanity to man
Like pesticides the government is committing genocide
The U.S. brings a case to save the African race
But they call foul the government is eradicating Jihadist
But it ain’t modest  remember nine eleven
But the world remembers Abu Ghraib prison
It’s a double standard save America at no cost
But when it comes to savin Africa from aids hunger and strife
Blood driven dictators play the hypocrite card and blame America
So we pull out to save face
And let the African homies hanggin
With hands out asking where our freedom at
Askin For bread to eat and books to read
But there’s no oil in African soil
It ain’t our problem Africa is dying

In Congo its there fault they killing each other
But did you know when Congo was a colony of Belgium
Like the nazi’s they too ruled with a bloodless greed
Committing atrocities choppin off arms and legs of children
then U.N. forced the Belgium’s out saying give the people freedom
But out hate and spite the Belgium’s took away the infrastructure
And left the country  looking like a crack house gutter
And gave rule to greedy men hoping  turmoil will ruin the land
In hopes the Congo come runnin back asking the imperialist for a hand
But it did not happen war lords continue to fight each other
In hopes to rule another just another sad place raped by the west

We think the Hutus and Tutsi are savages killing one another
But did you no when they got they freedom from the Germans or Belgium’s what’s the difference
The Belgium’s split the colonies in two Rwanda And Burundi
in the north Rwanda majority Hutus governed by minority Tutsi’s
The south Burundi majority Hutus and governed by minority Tutsi’s
Why to start violence in hopes they yelp
and help govern the people like slaves again
But in Rwanda the Hutus killed off the Tutsi’s instead
And in the south hatred irrupted but the future looks bright
The two groups have come together trying to live in harmony

Just keeping it real and bringing the truth
I’m out, til next when I jump start
Ignorant hearts and take em apart

Damn, that's pretty deep. I like how you had a political concept behind your whole flow, kinda reminds of Immortal Technique. I never even knew all this was happening, brought some light to my eyes. I need to go read up on this stuff. I can tell you poured your heart into it too and your rhymes are pretty tight. Do you actually smoke up though? haha.. Well, I'm starting summer school on monday so my time might be tied up again. How old are you guys? I'm 20 as of now, going to be turning 21 in dec.

Hey, thats a pretty good, and deep poem there Super Pancake. I'm really aware of the Tutsu and Hutu violence, maybe because I saw that brilliant movie 'Hotel Rwanda'.

I'm 15, turning 16 on 6/17. A lot of my friends already drink, so I guess it doesn't matter if your drinking age or not.

Do any of you guys record your own songs? Write your own lyrics? I'd like to get a hold of them.
Super Pancake
Thanks hAiLo, i only write my lyrics and spit with my friends, I don't record. and if I did ever want to record sadly it wont be hip-hop music, it will be rock n roll.
ShaunZero
I LOVE rap. My favs are probably.

The Game
Luda
50 Cent
Ying Yang Twins
Snoop Dogg
etc

Not in any order.
_hAiLO_
Hey, glad to know you like those artists. I kinda like The Game, Snoop and Luda myself.

And Super Pancaka, you like rock-and-roll? Hey, I do too (well, some of it). If you call Green Day or Linkin Park some sort of rock, then I can say I like rock sometimes.
nick_fury
anyone else think jay z is starting to lose it? i don't think hes had a reely good song since izzo back on the blueprint, that stuff hes done with linkin parks ok but his rhymes just seem to be getting worse and he can't pen a decent melody anymore, maybe he should step down and let kanye become the new frontman of rocafella
Mr Ed
I thought jay z said he was going to give up rapping alltogether...
Probably a bad source then.
Super Pancake
Well hAiLo rock is my true love of music, Green Day is cool, Linkin Park i don't know, they got played to death, I can't stand to hear another Linkin Park song, but their last album with Jay-z was tight.

Mr. Ed your are right Jay-z did retire, and I agree with nick_fury#1 ever since his first album, Jay-z just literally sucked balls after that, he rapped BS rhymes, in the same format for the last ten years, I'm glad he is gone maybe some real talent might shine with his departure.

The line you posted is tight too! laugh.gif

_hAiLO_
Alright, i'm going to be brutely honest. The lyrics were mad, I think its some of the best lyrics put together since I can remember. The message was pro-abstinence and safe-sex, and I think its something we need for people to hear. But about the lyrics, I think he should have tweeked down the vocab level, and I wish I could have received every word of the verse. Like not too many words, or slow down the tempo. It would be cool if I got the entire message without having to look up lyrics.

I could go on with the feedback, but I really don't feel like this is the time to criticize your brother.

Is it James D'Amore of New Britain, your brother? They got sweet taste of what Hip-Hop is supposed to be(in my opinion).
seeking
yup, James is him cool.gif

Super Pancake
thanks seeking for the lyrics, I agree with hAiLo he does need to slow the tempo down a bit because the last part of the rhyme I could not get it, but its still cool in my opinion, as long the message is positive, more power to him

DarkSinister that was a nice quote I recognize that one you should of finished the verse though, the punch is hot!

QUOTE
Crank me up a with some psychedelic beats
While I rip it up with my lyrical treats
I'm sitting here with nothing better to do
But to comtemplate what youngin go through
Intelligent minds throwing their lives away
Is a thought that puts me into great dismay

To live by the street with something to prove
Thinking that your status will one day improve
Standing at the corner at the end of the curb
Representing your click and slanging that herb
Bump that crack, tweak that meph, drop that E,
Shoot up that heorin and trip over that lsd
Providing these means of highs is your only goal
But doing nothing more than selling out your soul

Now let me ask you..
Why blast at foes you don't even know
All because some *ucken *ussy *ss OG said so
Why spend life in prison without parole
Or 6 feet under, eternity in a hole
Nothing more than ponds in a real life game
To only end up with all of the blame
And live your whole *ucken life in shame

So I ask you brother, why live life like a G
When you can go to school and earn that degree
It a shame to see you throw your life away
To live out the thug life till your dying day
DarkSinister
Hey just wondering about what you guys think about these cats right here, listen to their album snippets..

DarkSinister man I feel sorry about your brother. Those rhymes are really good and a lot of people can relate to them. wish more mainstream rappers had similar messages to tell the whole world.

This is my favorite verse.

nice quotes by Binary Star, I wish he got more play mainstream, I thought he would be one of those under-ground artist to make it big like Talib Kweli.

Ok I got to listen to some of the snippets, It's o.k. what I like is that they have a soul feel kind of music in their beats, and the flow is right, I did not catch any memorable lyrics but I but there good. however it seems like they recycling the same beats, I did not check all the songs but on the first few i thought they all sounded similar.
_hAiLO_
Hey DarkSinister, those lyrics are pretty good! They go me thinking a little bit, and gave me a different perspective of thugs and hustlers. Sad to hear your brother is trying to become one sad.gif .

I did check the snippets, and i'll tell you i'm not a huge fan of old school. I do agree with Super Pancake that I didn't catch too many memorable lyrics, and the beats were almost monotonious...but thats just me. I just think they seem different to you in your perspective that make them great.
