Thats really cool of you girl! I wish I could use your freebies, but I'm the rocker type, hip-hop is secondary in musical interest. Do you have any artist we might know or should keep an eye out.

Haha i would want a beat, but i'm more into dancing and like I stated earlier in the thread, i don't think i'm good enough to make a decent track.

Anyhow, yeah i thought binary star would hit it big too, same with hieroglyphics. But I guess slum villiage, pharcyde, and dialated peoples had some songs that hit the mainstream radiowave.

I guess I'm the only one feeling the art of one mind right now! laugh.gif But yeah, I think they'll get better and I'm thinking they make it big in the near future. But yeah, there's a concert coming up that I'm going to with Nas, Hieroglyphics, Sage Francis, Guru, Living Legends, visionaires, and some other cats. I'm damn excited! grin2.gif Paid 30 bucks for my ticket since i bought it early..gonna be real tight.

But damn, this thread seems pretty dead since i've been gone, so lets bring some life back into it!
DarkSinister
Oh yeah, Guru from Gang Starr has a cd coming out next friday, I wonder how it'll sound without premier. Imma go look around to see if there's any clips posted up.

Game Ends 50 Cent Truce With Verbal Attacks At Summer Jam

To say the truce between the Game and 50 Cent came to a screeching halt Sunday night would be an understatement. Think more along the lines of a major derailment, much like the big scene in "Speed," when the subway train carrying Keanu Reeves and

Sandra Bullock crashes through the pavement and lands above ground.

For weeks there had been rumors that Game was making unfavorable remarks about 50 and the G-Unit while performing on the How the West Was One Tour. It was fodder for Internet message boards and made radio gossip reports, but the rumblings never materialized into anything substantial. G-Unit members haven't exactly given props to Game in some of their recent interviews either, but everything had been relatively calm.

During Summer Jam, the New York tri-state area's biggest hip-hop concert of the year, the Game's frustrations boiled over while onstage in New Jersey's Giants Stadium, and he took several verbal shots at the G-Unit. The rapper also had people dressed up in a gorilla suit and a rat costume — representing 50's alleged snitching — both wearing G-Unit T-shirts and getting beaten in a mocking manner by Game's clique.

From the onset of Game's set, the Compton, California, native let it be known he would not be in Jersey with his "tail between his legs" backing down from his problems with 50. He performed "Hate It or Love It," rapping 50's verse as well as his own, switching up a line here and there to relay anti-G-Unit sentiment, such as "I ain't f---ing with five-0/ It's all starting to make sense."

Later Game introduced a new slogan, "G-G-G-U-Not!"

There was a slight undercurrent of booing when Game voiced his feeling towards the G-Unit, and that's when Dr. Dre's protégé really expressed himself.

Game explained that he had love for New York, but he was kicked out of the G-Unit because "they were hating." He said the crowd shouldn't hate him because he hates 50. Game even yelled "F--- 50" while holding his son in his arms before performing "Dreams."

The crowd started to warm up to Game more and more as he continued to use his platform to try and humiliate his former business associates. The lanky MC even threw a G-Unit chain he once wore proudly into the audience like it was nothing more than a used tissue going into a garbage can.

"I don't follow suit like f----t ass Yayo," Game roared. He later threatened to "knock out" Tony Yayo and Lloyd Banks.

It became evident that Game's set was more therapy than performance — and that he had been waiting to get a lot off of his chest. Game even started to detail the infamous night at Hot 97's station, when a member of his crew was shot (see "50 Drops Game From G-Unit; Shots Fired At Radio Station"), accusing 50 of being scared to come outside and saying the G-Unit general was rushed out of the back of the building.

Highlights from the 2005 Summer Jam

The tirade ended, ironically, with Game performing the song he and 50 made famous, "This Is How We Do." Before going into the verses, Game had more unfavorable words for the entire crew: "50 Cent can suck my ... / Tony Yayo can suck my ... /G-Unit can suck my ..."

Game's performance will undoubtedly be the one most talked about for the weeks to come — however, the highest point of the show came via a man who wasn't even on the bill: Jay-Z.

Hov is the undisputed king of Hot 97's Summer Jams. He keeps the venue full, and no one leaves feeling cheated after the concert. Since he stopped performing at Summer Jam, there's been an obvious void. He hasn't hit the stage since 2001, when he brought out Michael Jackson and debuted a little record you might remember called "The Takeover" (see "Jay-Z's Special Guest A Thriller For Summer Jam Crowd").

Jay came out this year as a special guest of scheduled act Kanye West — who also brought out Cam'ron and Common in separate instances. The Roc was definitely in the building, as tens of thousands of fans immediately yelled at the top of their lungs when Jay arrived during "Diamonds." For several minutes, Jay stood onstage while the crowd used their voices, letting him know they were grateful that he was hitting the Summer Jam stage. The ovation was so overwhelming that you can bet they wouldn't be too upset if he announced that he is calling the whole retirement thing off. Jigga then performed both "P.S.A." and "Encore."

A couple of the night's most anticipated performances were called off before completion by Hot 97. Jadakiss, who many fans felt should have been appearing a lot later on the bill than his #3 slot (same goes for the heavily popular hometown crew the Diplomats, who hit the stage second), got his mic cut off just as he was about to perform his 50 dis record, "Checkmate." Let's just say Kiss didn't feel "marvelous" after that.

The night's headliner, Snoop Dogg, also got caught up in the mismanagement of time. By the time Doggy jumped onstage at close to 11 p.m., a large faction of the crowd was filing out.

It's not like Snoop isn't loved in New York, but after several hours in a stadium, fans are naturally tired. By the time Snoop brought out his guest Cassidy midway through his set, the crowd was so thin, it looked like Snoop was opening the show rather than closing.

Capacity doesn't matter to the Dogg, though. He was determined to give whoever was there a great show and was prepared to go all night if he had to. At one point, his mic was cut off and so was the power to his band and DJ. After a couple of seconds elapsed, the juice was back on, but Snoop told his security people to stand by the "power man" just in case he wanted to cut the power again.

Halfway through "Gin and Juice," all the lights in the stadium went up. Snoop was able to get through that song and tried to perform "Drop It Like It's Hot" next, but that was all she wrote. Shortly after 11:30 p.m., both Snoop's set and Summer Jam '05 were over in a disappointing, anti-climatic manner. The crowd didn't even get one "Snooooooooooop" off. And Snoop had just barked about flying all the way to New York to give a good show, saying Hot 97 shouldn't give him time constraints.

Ciara, Amerie and Ludacris and his guest Bobby Valentino also hit the Summer Jam stage, as did Lil Jon and the East Side Boyz, joined by guests Elephant Man, Pitbull, Ice Cube, Lil' Scrappy, Trillville and the Ying Yang Twins (and you have to believe you've heard it all once you've witnessed over 30,000 men and women yell in unison "Wait till you see my di--!").

Dang, Fat Joe's diss toward 50 is in his album...*nods head in dissapointment*

Hey, I got a question for you all. Whose lyrics are better, Mainstream Rap artists or Underground/Mixtape rap artists? Now, were not talking about 'topic-wise', but how they choose their words according to their topics. Like how well does 50 rap about guns, and how well does an underground rapper rap about the hood. Please?

first off I'm glad all you guys are back, I've been chillin on U.M. for days waiting for a response from somebody! original.gif

Second its not much a shocker that the truce is over, fifty had it coming since The Game did a collabo with R. Kelly and we know how fifty hates R. Kelly. Anyway I think fifty gets what he deserves, instead of making music he just want to hate on everybody!

Of course its underground for me and it depends who makes the mixtapes are better then most mainstream artist. but I don't know how to answer your question, it all depends on your taste of the music and how well you receive it. A hip-hop noob would love fifty and Jay-Z because their beats and lyrics are simple and catchy while a dude like Cannibal Ox, Immortal Technique, even Aceyalone the noob would be like wtf did he say because the complexity they use in the lyrics and beats. So I would say that it depends if you want simple stuff v.s. complex stuff. Now which is better is up for debate do you want simpleton music are hardcore avant garde music. you can expect the dumb ass masses to like sh** from the mainstream, while some of us can appreciate the stuff from the underground.

I got the article from MTV.com and at the bottom of the article, visitors left comments about the whole deal. Virtually everyone of them thought that Game step the boundries and "bit the hand that feeds him" but I would certianly disagree with them. thumbsup.gif

Also, I think Game has more important things to worry about. A DJ in DC(Remember the line "You want me to remined yall what happened in DC" in Hate it or Love it) is suing Game for 250 million dollars for allegedly assulting him and for all the profits he made with that line above hmm.gif

When I told my friend about this he laughed and said that 50 is gonna kill Game now. The only successful battle fifty had is with Ja Rule and that wasn't because of fifty's street credibility but Ja Rule's very weak credibility.

50 needs to really slow down a bit on dissing every single rap artist because sooner or later his career will suffer because of it. Now he has beef with Cassidy rolleyes.gif

On another note- Has anyone heard the song or seen the video of Benzino's song "Look Into My Eyes"? It is a response to Eminem's "Like Toy Soldiers" and it basically continue's Em's video where it left off.

The whole G-Unit camp is weak lyrically but I do like some of Young Buck's songs though. As far as weak link of the group- Tony Yayyo with 50 being right next to him.
Lloyd Banks is nothing special either but manages to get a decent verse here and there.
In my opinion- fifty sealed his fate when he started messing with Jadakiss and Game. Jadakiss already has great influence over hip-hop and Game is becoming a bigger influence each day so he should think twice before starting yet another beef yes.gif

I don't know what kind of internet connection you have, but if it is fast enough you can check out the video in this link:

Thanks for the video arben, I saw it all and it was a great song. Made me think, what did Tupac have that both mainstream and underground rappers don't. He's one of a kind.

Speaking of him, this whole 50 Cent feud is going to be another 'pac vs. biggie' deal. I bet my money on Jadakiss/Cassidy/Game. I think the real gangsters in New York are going to tear up 50, thats the key element here. New Yorkers don't like 50.

You're welcome for the video thumbsup.gif

For the Jadakiss/Cassidy/Game feud with 50 cent- I think they already got to him, at least Jadakiss and Game did. Cassidy made it in the rap game through freestyling and surprisingly is praised by many rappers for his freestyling skills so I'd be interested to listen to a diss by Cassidy.

Man if only Jadakiss' million dollar offer to 50 went anywhere, this beef would have been over already yes.gif

We just need reporters/media, and a celebrities worst nightmare (especially one with high status *cough*50*cough*), Paparazzi!

Headline: How 50 Cent lost a million dollars in a freestyle competition to Jadakiss.

I still got that roaming around my mind though...do you guys think that Tupac had the street credibility that 50 doesn't, and the public eye that underground rappers don't? Maybe with that combination, you have yourself a healthy McDonalds.

Sorry...I just like to compare that. 50 Cent is to McDonalds (fat/tasty), as Underground rappers are to Home Cooked meals.
DarkSinister
The song was pretty good for benzino, don't really listen to him though, but thanks for the link.

It's funny here in Cali though, there are masses of youngin bumping 50's stuff all loud while acting like little thugs. It's horrible here, haha. Next time i pull up, i should play a diss of 50 and bump it all loud to see what they'll say. But yeah, i think people are starting to hop off the bandwagon now since everyone else is starting to hate on fiddy.

Pancake, that quote is tite, Immortal Technique is the man! I would like to see him hit it big.
DarkSinister
Well, Tupac lived in the streets for awhile, that's where he grew up. But he was also fortunate enough to attend a preforming art school. But yeah, Tupac stated that some of his lyrics were based on what he see in the streets and it's suppose to show the injustice and protest of their way of life. He was magical with words and was able to paint a picture with what he was saying. People saw him as their voice and related to him on their level. That's why he was so popular. He said what they were living and thinking. Have you seen that one Tupac movie that came out awhile ago? That'll give you a pretty clear view about who he is. As for 50 cent, that lamer stole his name from an actual hardcore thug that was in New York. I think it's pretty dumb how many people like artists for their credibility in the streets while overlooking the real emcees with their magnificent word play and rhymes.

Thanks for the heads-up, I reall appreciate it grin2.gif . I hope i'm not asking too many questions, you guys are helping me a lot and I like to come here for the latest in Hip-Hop and discussions.

I will watch the movie, 'Tupac: Ressurection' was it? 50 Cent is coming out with a movie...acting all hard, and coming back for the money as always. I'm still surprised that not a lot of people are yet tired of him. He will appear in cloths/shoes/movies/games, its crazy. I don't know if people will actually get tired of him, but I know the real gangsters will get more angry at him.

Eminem made a movie called '8-Mile' a long time ago. Is it real, does it tell the truth about what goes on in the streets? Or is it another wacko i'm-a-gangster movie?

This particular topic revolves around most of 50's songs, including sex/drugs/violence....'cept hate it or love it, which is the only good song on his album in my opinion. Its like wrestling. 'If your not mean and tough, your not good enough'. And this guy is acting tough in a fake sort-of way.

none of you guys see this as a stunt for publicity? i truley believe that g-unit and game are conspiring with each other to pretend they have beef to place themselves back ontop of the rap industry...to me it makes perfect sense, and it would be somethind id do too

It could be a conspiracy, I felt that way during the first time they had beef and fifty's sales went up. Now the beef is reignited I think it's legit, but only time will tell, If they call for a truce again then I think it is a conspiracy, but if The Game stays true and Dre and Em backs him up, then Fifty is done.
And yeah, I think the game will do a real lot to make hip-hop better. I was in BlockBuster just earlier ago, and I saw this months issue of vibe magazine. I was drawn to it by the front cover, and a smile crept on my face.

That is cool to read, I think if more of us is seeing positive things from the mainstream, more people is going to start listening to Hip-Hop. and I'm glad Vibe no where it's at.
“G-G-G-G U-NOT!” Those were the stuttering words on the lips and placards of twelve anti-G-Unit protesters outside of NY’s Hot 97 radio station on June 7 when Tony Yayo visited the Angie Martinez show. Fortunately it didn’t turn into round three of Hot 97’s infamous shootouts. It would have been the second involving G-Unit. Vibe.com has pictures and some words from the protesters. Do you believe their claims?"

I heard about this, I was kind of surprised, I like the other members of G-Unit, I think Fifty is the problem, correct me if I'm wrong but I though Yayo was the leader of the group before he went to jail maybe he will make Fifty play his role and shut him up.

I don't really mind 50 some of his tnes are tight, he's not exactly lyrically gifted but his voice is quite unique and the instrumentals are good (although shady records and aftermath probably deserve the credit for this). I'm not really keen on the rest of g-unit though they've not made a song that really impressed me thus far, but i defo agree kanye and the game are the new big things in hip hop, the college dropout is amazing and i hear 'the documentary' is every bit as good
seeking
i never cared for kanye west, i liked his song through the wire, but once it got big it seemed as if kanye got a big head and i lost interest in him, ive never really liked jay-z either, i do however think lloyd banks and young buck have skills, but thats about it

my top 5 in order of greatness

1. Bone Thugs N Harmony
2. Big Pun
3. DMX
4. Fabolous
5. Cash Money (only thier old stuff)

DarkSinister
Bone Thugs N Harmony are underway for a new cd, well, that's what i heard last, but not too sure about it because some people told me bizzy got kicked out AGAIN! Hopefully they'll pull it together...

Some artists i like are: Pharcyde, Atmosphere, Blackstar(Mos and Talib), Madlib, Quasimoto, Blackalicious, ang Gang Starr. ahh there are more, but those are just from the top of my head. But yeah, i'm feeling the artists you listed though Pancake, great picks! thumbup.gif

I just found two old songs that i heard on tv somewhere, i remember i use to play it a lot. Check it out... Ghostface Killah - Churchez LaGhost and LL Cool J - I Need Love. haha the LL track is hella old school and think most of you heard it already.

Hopefully people will support Game over 50 cent though if they are really beefing which I think they are because Game wasn't actually suppose to be in G-unit, he was just somewhat bundled with them so he could finish his cd. So yeah, when 50 starting beefing, Game wasn't down with him because they weren't that tight.
DarkSinister
Hmm how come the page is all distorted, kinda getting irritating..hahaha

Oh, what do you guys think of N.E.R.D. or The Neptunes? I like the old cds N.E.R.D. has and the new one was pretty good.
nick_fury
i hate pharell, i dunno why i just really do every time i look at him i wanna kick his ass lol i'm not a big neptunes fan at all i don't like their work especially with ajy-z i think they played a big part in his comedown i mean WTF change clothes and go?
N.E.RD. however i like thumbsup.gif even thought hey kinda try to be grungy and gangsta which i disapprove of

Really man their always breaking up and coming back together, "The Crossroads," and "First of the month"s is in my top 50 best rap songs. I hope they pull it together and get an album done.

Those are some great picks especially Atmosphere, I think he may go places if other rappers start giving him his props as a good emcee.

Are you serious he is in my worst rapper list, the other artist you mentioned are way better then Nelly, especially Ice Cube. The only reason he is hot is because he is the first break out rapper from STL.

And N.E.R.D. their cool they just need better lyrics and they need to cut down with the collabo's and be on their own.

nick_fury
I loved nelly old stuff, you ever hear '#1' off the training day ost that tune is hot, and also stuff like ride wit me, country grammar and splurge. He got a bit dubious recently though 'my place' was ok but the rest of the stuff off this 'double album' (whats that about anyway?) doesn't really do anything for me

Snoop and the black eyed peas used JT and made great tunes, Nelly made utter crap, but on the whole i'm a big fan of his work, he used to be my favourite rapper a few years back

I guess he was cool back when he came out, but today Nelly needs to bring some better stuff.

Well I was just concerned as a girl I would think you would have a stronger gender identity and find that these artist views of women are some what misogynistic and degrading. Btu if your Father thinks its o.k thumbsup.gif it ain't a problem with me.
nick_fury
hey pancake, i need a couple of hot joints for my mp3 player, obviously from my top 5 you can tell i'm mostly into mainstream stuff and don't go for much underground stuff, got any suggestions?
_hAiLO_
I'm exactly like that.....though to be honest, underground hip-hop is not my thing, and I search among the mainstream rappers who got it going with the truth about everything they say.

I really like Kanye West, Common and John Legend. My personal favorites that came from them were, 'Jesus Walks', 'The Corner' and 'Ordinary People'. I want to get to know The Game a little better, dig deeper into his album and find stuff that I am expecting to find, and I want from the other rappers.
Super Pancake
Try, Immortal Techniques, Canibus, Cannibal Ox, Atmosphere, Big L, Quasimoto, Likwit Junkies, Brother Ali, Aceyalone, Slug, Louis Logic, Tonedeff, Sage Francis, Esoteric, Celph Titeled, Vinnie Paz, Planatary(from the group Outerspace), Ill Bill (from the group Non Phixion), Binary star, Jedi Mind, Dilated Peoples, Planet Asia, Juggaknot, Sage, Jeru the Damaja, Company Flow, Saafir

Ok. their not in any particular order, they all are equally good rappers or groups, i highlighted my favs, this is all I can think off at the top of my head, i'll post more if I remember any. But anyway this list should occupy you for a while.

50 cent does have one of those good voices, that can only be topped by eazy e and busta rhymes. If you play his songs one after another you'll here this one same lyric: "Hotter then a tea kettle.". He's not very lyrically talented, but since Dre hooks him up with beats, the songs sound really good.

As for G-Unit, im guilty of buying their pants. They have a strong label image, which is pretty good in the business world right now.

Top 5 rappers of greatness in Zak's opinion

1. Busta Rhymes
2. Eazy-E
3. Dr.Dre
4. Twista
5. Those people in Wu Tang

He was good. His #1 was the best song ever. But now that he has busted his way into movies, and collabarating himself with country singers, he is far away from cool as anyone can be.
