I didn't live in fear, and I won't. I refuse to let people think they can cower me into a corner. True I lost my job due to what happened. Mostly because people were idiots and feared a stupid email going around saying shopping malls were next.

Thus we didn't get enough business and were forced to close. That's what fear does. I ruins things... and only morons let fear rule thier lives like that. Yeah I bitter about it, I loved my job, and was thankful that I had one. I enjoyed every minute of it, and was pissed off to no ends when they closed the place down. Not even offering us jobs in the place they opened up in our stead.

But because I have no degree... and only one year of college under my belt... the ton of life experiance means bupkiss now in the working feild. People with doctorites who should be working in Uni's or hospitals are working low class jobs that I should be working at. But because of thier degree.. they get hired first.

These statements make me laugh everytime i hear them....America isn't the only superpower in the world, believe it or not heres some other superpowers you may not be aware of:

Britain (remember this tiny island? Its actually quite big, being the almost the same size as germany, and has the second largest military in europe. Also has a large quantities of nuclear weapons.)
France (people seem to overlook this nuclear nation, with a military thats the largest in europe (excluding russia, which in my opinion isn't european..)
Russia (just because communism collapsed and they are "free" and economically unsound, doesn't mean they can't use the 60,000 tanks and thousands of nukes they have lying around.)
China (is just as powerful as america, with both the worlds largest army and airforce, and nukes to boot.)

Semi-superpowers (nations that have low technology/small military forces but have nuclear capabilities):

Canada
Austrailia
Spain
India
Pakistan
Israel

It isn't just a matter of military might. It is also to a large degree economic might.
No one is suggesting that the countries you mentioned are not powerful. But the term 'SuperPower' excludes them. It is likely that China will become a SuperPower over the course of the next thirty years or so. Keep laughing though..it's good for the soul.

Superpower is determined by military might and not economics. Britain has a healthy economy, so does France, Russia is recovering, and China have a improved economy. All these countries are capable of doing EXACTLY what America does/plans to do. I think you would rather have the all these countries excluded from "Superpower" because you do not understand what the term means:

Low technology in respects to military technologys such as rocketry, satelites...etc etc. You'll also notice the "/" sign between low tech and small military forces. Austrailia may have a high civilian tech, and medium military tech in regards to the US, but has a small military force. India, has a low military technology, and not exactly a large army either. Spain is pretty much the same as austrailia in regards to military/technology, and Israel isn't considered superpower, because its military is outnumbered by its neighbours.

This is just going to spiral off into badness. Sufficed to say, America is divided on its opinion of the UN, much like it's divided on EVERYTHING else.

And yes, ther are more superpowers than the United States. Goodness gracious.

Actually many countries of the world, BAs list will suffice, are very powerful. But economics does play a very large part in the SuperPower status that America has. Hey, I don't care to play a game of semantics...but it has always been portrayed in the media and such as the worlds two great SPs...the USSR and the USA. Well what happened to the Soviet Union? Wasn't it a matter of economics in the end?

I know what the internet definition of SP is but I am not sure what the International Community's definition is. All I know is that America is still a beacon of freedom to the world and that has a lot to do with it as well. France is a very powerful country. We like to make fun of them sometimes but we do not 'disregard' their economic or military might. At least I don't. And the UK? Where would the US be in the war on terror or any other war for that matter without the UK as a close friend and ally?

I think my main point is that military strength is only part of the mix. China has us outnumbered in numbers of troops...but then, how many attack nuclear subs do they have? How many aircraft carriers?

I don't really care whether we are considered the Worlds only SuperPower or not. It isn't something that means that much to me personally. Is the term Leader of the Free World also in question?

My personal gripes with America come from a number of areas....one of the more annoying aspects of American society is this insane Americana rubbish. There's this...strange idea among some Americans that the US is perfect, and can do no wrong, and so on and so forth...I'm a nationalist myself, but I'm still able to critisise my government and countrymen when I believe they've botched up. Some Americans seem to lack that ability.

This in turn leads on to the most irritating part...the sheer overwhelming arrogance from some of our neighbours across the pond. You only have to look at the number of people in this thread who, in their sheer arrogance, think the reason the world hates America is somehow down to envy...

What the hell do I care if America is a super power? I've probably got a better standard of living than many americans, what the heck does it matter to me how much political sway you've got? Aside, perhaps, some a sense of mobid horror that Bush is that powerful.

I'd say it's the arrogance more than anything....obviously, that's not something you'll find in all americans, or even a majority of americans...it's just that the occasional idiot manages to speak far louder than the intelligent majority.

It's partly due to the fact that an oversized, fuel-hogging SUV is the vehicle of choice for soccer moms and rap stars everywhere. Blame it on the bling.

Some steps are being taken: hybrid cars, emission standards being raised. But the strides were much greater when Clinton was in office. He was by FAAAR a more environmentally conscious president. Bush is just maddening with what bills he is overturning regarding the environment.

But all industrialized countries are having a negative effect. We're just leading the pack.

I've been to the US...It's a nice place! The people are generally friendly and business is usually about the customer and not them. In this country it's the oposite, people are rude, discurtious and business is NEVER to suit the customer. It's just once in a while people have got to accept that some will not like your country. Do you ever make jokes about other countries? What about jokes about the french being arogant and stuck up? A lot of people do that. I don't see any threads about how people are targetting the French? American's often take the piss out of the English...as well as many other countries take the piss out of us too! that's not to say ''you always target us''....it's just life....sometimes people make jokes or slam a country. Accept it.

There is no need for people to making accusations like that....the US are NOT targetted...and if they are it's likely that EVERY country is. We should be sticking up for EACH OTHER. The world should be ONE. Not ''YOU HATE US'' and ''WE HATE YOU''.

And I've not thrown any accusation at other countries in any of my posts. Read them, please, and you'll see where I understand that the US has made many mistakes and deserves quite a bit of its reputation. I just don't think it's fair that all Americans are often categorized so negatively for the gross misconduct of a few. And I'm not blaming any country or person when I say that.
