Dark Matter does exist, but it still isn't known what it really is. Dark matter is simply matter we can't see directly by using any telescope.
Dark matter doesn't give off any type of electromagnetic radiation, infrared radiation, radio waves, ultraviolet radiation, X-rays or gamma rays.
How we know it exists is through the gravitational effect it exerts on visible matter in the universe. We can actually see this effect in the rotation of galaxies, among other things.
Although we know dark matter exists, we don't know what it really is, and some ideas are that it could be some type of MACHO(Massive Astrophysical Compact Halo Objects) or WIMP(Weakly Interacting Massive Particles) or possibly neutrinos(still not known for certain if neutrinos have mass).
