Hi guy's i need some tips from you dog lovers out there..
I'm looking after a lovely little dog for my friend, she is called Looner, she is only a couple years old and she is sweet..As i am a cat owner i know more about looking after a cat than a dog, but my heart couldn't let her go to the dog kennels as i love all animals...I have got her a nice big bone to chew on, and some play toys, but she keeps on jumping on the bed and when i ask her to get down she just sits there with these big eyes and her little tail wagging...
So some tips off you guys will be a great help.. thumbsup.gif

my mum has a long haired chihauhah so if your like watching tv or something, put her basket on the sofa next 2 u, and each time she tries to climb her out, just look at her and say no, or the alternative is put her lead on, and tie it to a table leg or something and leave some toys out for her,

Well, dogs are basically like small children. Toddlers. You can not ask it sweetly to get off the bed and expect it to comply if it's quite happy there, you have to be stern with it, not threatening but very strict. Reward good behaviour, punish bad depending on the seriousness of the dogs bad behavior. teach it where it's bed is and make sure it knows that is where it sleeps so that BED means go to your bed and stay there. Play with it, let it know it is adored just as much as it adores you. But do not let it be bad or continue to behave badly.

Did your friend leave the dog a kennel (it's like a big carrier)? Most dogs that are kennel-trained love to be in their kennel in a strange place. It's like their own little space where they can feel safe.
BurnSide
Absolutely. Here we call it a 'Crate' and it's sort of like a cage. Dogs always need to be crate-trained.
Silent-Storm
Yeah she seems to have been spoilt rotten, wich isn't a bad thing, but she does find it hard to take notice..
Thanks guy's... thumbsup.gif

that is very true indeed grin2.gif especially a mix between a Lab and a Golden Retriever. They are like sugar high 2 year olds grin2.gif but dont feed them chocolate, that can kill them if they eat too much crying.gif and it just breaks your heart when they whimper at you when you leave crying.gif and those big puppy eyes crying.gif so adorable! wub.gif

ohhh can we see a picture of the little darling wub.gif

Can you get a cage in different sizes...
BurnSide
Yes definately. The dog feels more secure if, say it's a small dog, it doesn't have a MASSIVE crate.

It's mainly for his bed, you can leave the door open and whatnot, but it's also good for if you have a bad chewy dog and you need to leave it, you can put the dog in the crate.

My dog's crate was too close to the couch though. Chewed a hole in it. sad.gif

I will get my camera tomorrow from mum and post one for you D-D, no problem.

Yeah, it's small enough they can feel secure, but not cramped. It's good especially for when you leave the house. Most dogs LOVE their kennel and know that it's their place. (I guess "crate" sounds a little better then kennel. original.gif ) And they won't go to the bathroom in it if they can help it, in case you are concerned about that.

A dog crate is the best thing you can do for not only your dog, but for you as well.
Beware, new onces aren't cheap.

I think my worst fear is incase she start's to frett, what are the symptoms, as would hate her to be unhappy...

Unless she is hurting, hungry or needs to potty (as Burns said, they are like babies) she shouldn't fret. If she is just fussy, she needs to learn that she can't always get her way. original.gif Must not spoil the child.

My friend took care of a little dog for her freind when she went on vacation...... ummm.... she actually started to train him..... why don't you do that? It will learn a lot.... and a fun thing to do.... teach it to sit, etc. Don't concentrate on the cute face tongue.gif unsure.gif ...... then you won't be able to do it.
