I was just wondering if anyone knew about the territorial behavior of bigfoot. While moose hunting in a remote location this past fall we found our trail to have trees to large for a bear to break pushed over our trail on different angles which indicates that it wasnt the wind. i was wondering if perhaps a bigfoot may have done it feeling threatened by our trail going down to a small lake. The terrain is mostly jack pines and spruce with a rocky/mossy floor. I would appreciate your input, so that i may come to a conclusion in my mind.

i beleive (though i am not sure) that they may very well be territorial...humans are territorial and i THINK apes are as well so it would make sence if sasquatches were territorial. they may not like you invading their territory and shooting their moose friends original.gif
Lord_Kazius
i think their moose friends would more then likely be moose dinner....
Mad Manfred
If Bigfoot is a primate, then he's territorial. This doesn't mean he'll chase you and rip you limb from limb...it just means he'll try to scare you away. Like a gorilla or orangutan.
Lord_Kazius
im not implying that he would act violently, but i see the trees as a baracade or warning, because he doesnt want us to be there...
Tia
Broken trees can be a sign of sassy / yowie activity. I believe it is as a marking of their territory.
Shai_Hulud
If he was territorial there will be more encounters between him and humans, so I say no.
Middle aged Crazy
To start with, you'd have to prove he exists at all, something no one has ever been able to do.

I'd say it's very likely indeed Bigfoot is territorial...for a start, at the top of the foodchain, Bigfoot would have to be territorial to survive, or it would simply compete itself out of business. However, that doesn't mean it cares too much about humans...

Generally speaking, most animals that are territorial won't bother about animals of other species wandering around...only members of the same species. Some predators will attack humans certainly, but that's more likely because they consider the human a direct threat, rather than a competative one. Most other species of ape, for example, are far more likely to run away from humans than confront them...I'd imagine Bigfoot would do the exact same thing.

Most likely no.Whenever they see a human, they take off,if they were territorial, then they would stay and fight the person(they would have a major advantage over the person anyway)

i find it very easy to believe that bigfoot would fear man...

for all the information that has been accumulated by sightings and encounters with Bigfoot. I do not believe them to be territorial. in most cases bigfoot is in a hurry to get away from the intruder of their space than they are to act territorial.
I feel there would be many cases of people being attacked or chased off by bigfoot if this were the case.

There's an interesting report on the AYR message board. It's an unofficial outing by some SAS guys trying to scare off an aggressive yowie.

Perhaps one day we will find bigfoot buirial grounds.. I've heardthey bury thier dead.. perhaps we can find out more from a skeleton of one.
Seraphina
The idea of Bigfoot burying their dead came about from some extremist believers who were unable to explain to skeptics why no body had ever been found. It also happens to be one of the many outragious proposals that make the scientific community scoff at sasquatch.

No body has ever been found because of the environment in which bigfoot lives. Damp, warm, and filled with scavangers from the large to the small, no corpse is going to last long there...a couple of hours at most. It's very rare indeed to find the corpse of any animal in the forest, let alone a creature as rare and elusive as a sasquatch.

In a lot of sightings that you hear or read. The bigfoot/sasquatch screams, beats it chest, or chases. Then stops when there of its territory.

I doubt it was, no....although I may be wrong...

Every single species of greater ape that has ever encountered man has, on sight, ran like hell...more likely than not this happened many times before people even know the other apes were there. When encountered with unfamiliar creatures, any given animal is quite likely to run away until they know how to deal with them...bigfoot shouldn't be any exception.

This is the very reason why whether or not Bigfoot is territorial would have no bearing on its interactions with man...as I said already, bigfoot, as a top of the foodchain predator, would HAVE to be competative, and in turn territorial. All the creater apes are territorial...even apes like chimps, that live in social groups, are highly territorial, and will likely kill members of another chimp group that wanders into their territory (or at the very least beat the living hell out of him).

An animal that is territorial very rarely cares about members of another species wandering around...that would be a waste of time and energy. Animals compete with (and in turn drive from their territory) animals that have a similar biological niche to themselves....a sasquatch is about as likely to care what a human is doing as any other animal...it'll just get out of the way like everything else.

Yah i think they would be....
