Researchers have unearthed the remains of at least nine primitive human ancestors in Ethiopia, believed to have lived about 4.5 million years ago.

The fossils - fragments of teeth, jaw, hands and feet - all belong to the same species - A. ramidus (Ardipithecus ramidus) - first discovered about a decade ago.

A. ramidus is thought to be the oldest forerunner of modern man - looking more like a chimpanzee than a human.

The fossils were found in Ethiopia's northern Afar region, near the border with Djibouti. Details are reported in Thurday's edition of the British journal, Nature.

Researchers, led by Sileshi Sema of the CRAFT Stone Age Institute at Indiana University, say the fossils are significant, indicating these human ancestors walked upright on two feet and ate a plant-based diet.

Amazing discovery! Over 4 million years ago we still stood upright. With these kinds of discoveries i'm sure we're getting closer to pinpointing man's first step.

Its really an amazing Find, Just 1 more piece of the puzzle found. Hey, there have actually been an increase in the amount of discoveries made in the past 1-2 years... Discoveries dont usually come this fast, but we have had quite a few IMPORTANT finds in the past few months alone.

Seriously, can you imagine if we could somehow just make all the dirt invisible? Can you imagine all the stuff we would find, the history we would uncover? If I had any power imaginable, I would ask for Superman's X-ray vision.

no wait, those fossils were placed there by the devil to fool you!

seriously though, this is incredible, i think that us evolving from that to what we are now in only 4.5 million years is pretty good!

It is indeed an amazing discovery and hopefully this amazing run of discoveries will continue with more and more information about our ansectors coming to light!

And with these discoveries, it'll be easier to argue for evolution too.
