I was watching this show on the science channel today, it was about time travel, and basically they went ahead and explained how technically we have allready traveled through time (space missions) and that we know that time does not flow at the same pace for everyone, but that was the easy part, they then interviews a proffesor at UCONN whos name i do not remember, but he feels he is actually getting close to at least sending sub atomic particles back in time with a device of lazers that form a loop, which in turn creates a time warp more effective than a black hole, they go into a little depth about paradoxes and state something about they dont believe humans will be able to go back in time but we would be able to send information back in time, they also said that if this is true, we can be witnessing these changes with out even knowing, they went ahead and said that we would be able to send back modern science understanding thus giving the present at that time a very big jump a head, now my take on it is, what if we can send info back in time(sometime in our future), would this explain why our technology seemed to come out of no where (not alien tech, but perhaps our very own futures tech) or would it explain how people like the myans and egyptians had vast understandings of space? if we could send info back, this can explain those things, what i think the case was (assuming this is a possibility) is that the civilization that discovered sending info back in time tried to send it back very far (ancient times) and realized it was pointless and then re submitted this info at a more modern time (explaining all of our advances) what are you're takes on this idea?

I know about this "time machine" the only problem is that because of the way it works objects can only be sent back to the point of its creation. Now the problem with this is that surely as soon as he turns it on everyhting that ill ever be placed in the time machine will flood through at once causing god knows what to happen.

we can not travel through time. It is impossible. If we travel at the speed of light, we can make time stop, but we cannot travel forward in time. The future is written in stone, it cannot be changed. Nor can the past. There is simply no possible way to do it. However, it is possible to see what is in the future.

if time travel was possible in the future, surely people from the future would have come back to our time and showed off their technology.
have you ever met someone from the future?
no you havent, hence, no timetravel......ever!

maybe you guys didnt read what i wrote, i said they DO NOT believe a human can travel back into time, but they do believe that information can, also humans CAN travel into the future, its been done, the russian astronaut who holds the record for longest time in space, who was in the space station for 2 years, has actually traveled a fraction of a second into the future, miniscule yes, but nonetheless it was still done, TIME TRAVEL into the future is possible, what im trying to discuss is wether or not anyone else thinks it can be a possibility that the reason ancient civilizations had such an understanding of the universe was because people from our future sent INFORMATION back to those times

*sigh* you people really should learn to read
Like I said this time machine can only send things back to the moment of its creation and thats why we havent seen anyone travel back through it yet as it hasnt been created. Personaly I dont belive it will work but there are many things I dont understand about the universe and the theory behind this machine is one of them

Can we travel through Black Hole?
Whodyacryem
Jan 25 2005, 05:36 PM
Right now the general idea is that all going through a black hole will do is get you killed. Pretty much you will be sucked in by its super powerfull gravity which will then proceed to compress you into a tiny little speck....of course thats just theory so who knows what could happen.

^thats correct, a black hole is natures time altering device, general relativity ties space and time together into spacetime, meaning if a black hole warps the space around it, it is also warping time, the device with the loop of lasers mimics the black holes effect, only at the speed of light, and with out risk of being sucked into oblivion, whodyacryem do you have any more info on this that i can check out by any chance?

On what exactly?
black holes?
time machines?
using black holes as time machines?
black time machines?
time machines with holes in them?

sorry but I dont really have much info other than what I already said. All I know is it works using the curvature of light in some way I cant really understand or remember which somehow holds the area inside the machine in the same second of time forever. I think it has something to do with einsteins theories.

Black guy right? Since he hasn't been recieving signals from his "future" self we can conclude that his experiment is a failure.

Thnx! But actually the documentary was a BBC one and the theory was a sound in principal. Blackhole bends space because of its intense gravity, bending of space also affects time. The theory was that instead of using mass to bend space we use light instead. Light slowed down and travelling in a vortex. By slowing it down, we enable photons to gain energy, perhaps enough to warp space? ANyway when i watched the documentary the guy already constructed the device.

Do you think that if somehow we were able to go back in time, would be be able to change the out come of our present (pre-timetravel), or would your actual present be like it is as a result of you time traveling into the past? So either we could change the past or not. It seems only logical I me that there is no way to change your present. Ex. If you were to stop your birth, you would never have gone into the past an changed anything, therefore, you would be born normally. And that doesn't make sense.

that would be what we call a paradox, basically you broke down the grandfather paradox, which says if you go back in time and kill your grandfather, what would happen? if you succeeded in killing him then you would never be born to go back, and if you were never born to go back then that means he would survive thus eventually leading to you birth so you can go back and kill him
some go with the parallel universe theory, where if we go back in time we will enter an alternate universe where everything is free pickings and it will not effect the present you came from, others go with the pre-determined destiny path, where if you were to go back in time and try to kill your grandfather no matter how hard you tried you would not be able to suceed

Assuming there is one timeline and you went back in time to kill your grandfarther then since you were born in the first place you must have failed. So no matter how hard you try you wont be able to do it. And the fact that you guys are talking about a black guy leads me to belive I saw someone else with a similar idea.

Do You people know about Einsteins theory of relativity? .. it explains how time travel is theoretically possible. It seems as though the concept of black holes may drive us further into this phenomena. .. But I dont know much about it .. who does?

Whodyacryem....I think i've seen the same programme as you as it was a white guy in the one i saw.
Think the gist of his 'device' was he had laser beams forming squares (i think)...then he had them stacked on to of each other but slighty rotated as you went up the stack....
Think the theory was as a particle (presume it was a particle travelling at the speed of light or near it) entered this 'vortex' of lasers, it would get accellerated by the laser beams and also accellerated by the spiral effect (centrifugal force prehaps) the way something speeds up as it gets sucked down the plug hole, thus accellerating the particle beyond the speed of light and out of our 'universe'....and travel through time....
Was a long time ago i saw the programme hence the sketchy nature of what i describe, but he theorised that when he turned it on he should be able to detect particles suddenly appearing within his 'device' which have travelled back from the future.....shame i cant remember what the programme was called or who this guy was but it was interesting stuff....

that device you explain was almost exactly how they depicted it in the show i saw with the black guy, it was a series of red lazers forming squares that went up with each layer slightly rotated creating a vortex type of appearance

That is why we need time travel, to clean up our mess.
If only we could hit the 88Mph barrier with a flux capacitor.
Which is what makes time travel possible.
