I was flipping around on the telly the other night when I see a
commercial for a Peter Jennings special on u.f.o.s. Anyone else heard
of this? I haven't seen it again nor can I find anything on line. ABC
doing a u.f.o. special??? Do you think he was or will be stopped?
I was too suprised to hear the date.

I missed this thread and started another on it which should be closed. Anyway, I'm very interested to see this to find out what new, if any, info they will have. I'm guessing not a lot. I can almost see them passing on info you and I have long known about (avoiding the obvious ones-like Roswell), to the masses. New stories to those with passing interest but old news to us.

I hope they include the UFO sightings in Illinois a couple years ago and some shots of the triangles in California. The number of people seeing these thing are increasing and with Video cams and digital cameras more are being photographed.

Yeah, the wide consumer use and ready availability of digital video recording devices should open-up a new era of recorded sightings.
The ease of digital manipulation will see a similar, if not upwardly disproportionate, rise in hoaxes.

Thanx for all the feedback. I do believe all the networks (except fox) have had enough right wing propaganda. Maybe this u.f.o. special is the start of some new policies. I've heard some jokes on shows that would not have been allowed a few months ago (directed at dubya's unfounded war evidence). I know, this isn't a political thread but we gotta start telling the truth somewhere...

I was in Roswell at the UFO museum last July and saw the Jennings film crew interviewing the director of the museum. Their questions and behavior were serious and they did a lot of other filming-so who knows. Feb. 24 is the air date.

Actually I thought being high was pre-req to be on this forum(hehe).
Ask Dan Rather if he was high when he told the truth and lost his job.
There should be some cool new stuff out there. I haven't seen a decent ufo show since Best evidence caught on tape II, which wasn't all great but at least it dealt with the subject matter-of-factly. I get so sick of shows that have some skeptic droning endlessly, just because they've never seen one. How about some shows for believers and witnesses? Ya can't explain away some of the things I've seen.
I am kinda sorry to hear Mr. Jennings is dredging up roswell again, maybe there's some new stuff...

The UFO Phenomenon -- Seeing Is Believing
Two-Hour Primetime Special Airs Thursday, Feb. 24 at 8 p.m.
Feb. 4, 2005 -- Almost 50 percent of Americans, according to recent polls, and millions of people elsewhere in the world believe that UFOs are real. For many it is a deeply held belief.
For decades there have been sightings of UFOs by millions and millions of people. It is a mystery that only science can solve, and yet the phenomenon remains largely unexamined. Most of the reporting on this subject by the mainstream media holds those who claim to have seen UFOs up to ridicule.
On Feb. 24, "Peter Jennings Reporting: UFOs — Seeing Is Believing" takes a fresh look at the UFO phenomenon. "As a journalist," says Jennings, "I began this project with a healthy dose of skepticism and as open a mind as possible. After almost 150 interviews with scientists, investigators and with many of those who claim to have witnessed unidentified flying objects, there are important questions that have not been completely answered — and a great deal not fully explained."
"Peter Jennings Reporting: UFOs — Seeing Is Believing" airs Thursday, Feb. 24 from 8-10 p.m. ET on ABC. The program will be broadcast in High Definition.
This two-hour primetime special reports on the entire scope of the UFO experience — from the first famous sighting by Kenneth Arnold in 1947 to the present day. The program draws on interviews with police officers, pilots, military personnel, scientists and ordinary citizens who give extraordinary accounts of encounters with the unexplained. Also included are the voices of professional skeptics about UFOs, including scientists who are leading the search for life forms beyond Earth elsewhere in the universe.
The program explores the facts behind the enduring mystery of the incident at Roswell, N.M., and looks into the strange stories of alien abductions. Among the UFO cases presented:
Minot Air Force Base, N.D., October 1968 — Sixteen airmen on the ground and the crew of an airborne B-52 witness a massive unidentified object hovering near the base.
Phoenix, March 1997 — Hundreds witness a huge triangular craft moving slowly over the city.
St. Clair County, Ill., January 2000 — Police officers in five adjoining towns all independently report witnessing a giant craft with multiple bright lights moving silently across the sky at a very low altitude.
Today if you report a UFO to the U.S. government you will be informed that the Air Force conducted a 22-year investigation that ended in 1969 and concluded that UFOs are not a threat to national security and are of no scientific interest. But as one of the world's leading theoretical physicists says in the program, "You simply cannot dismiss the possibility that some of these UFO sightings are actually sightings from some object created by … a civilization perhaps millions of years ahead of us in technology."
"Peter Jennings Reporting: UFOs — Seeing Is Believing" is produced by PJ Productions and Springs Media for ABC News. Mark Obenhaus and Tom Yellin are the executive producers.

The "Key" being one of the Big 3 tackling this. A major network.
Kudos to ABC.
I don't think it will reveal anything new to us, but it shows that as a nation or world, we have evolved passed the "little green men" and this is being taken more seriously as mainstream science is also taking a more serious approach to it.

Interesting thread subtitle - "Will it be allowed?"
Is that supposed to be a reference to the Bush administration preventing this show from being aired?
Nonsense, the Bushies love this kind of make believe. Anything to take people's minds off the real problems we are facing.
I am not a psychic but I'm going to make some predictions. This is a two hour special, so allowing for comercials, actual show time will be around 90 minutes.
Prediction 1: 80 minutes will be dovoted to "believers", 10 minutes to serious rebuttal.
Prediction 2: Most of the rebuttals will be made by people not really qualified to make them and sounding silly when do.
Hey, maybe I am psychic.

Just in case you folk haven't heard, ABC is doing a two-hour UFO special. The show airs February 24th at 8:00PM. Petter Jennings is hosting. They're putting their anchorman on this show so it at least appears to be a serious look at the UFO phenomenon.
http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/Primetime/story?id=468496 I hope this show does a good job of investigation. I hope they present both sides well or it won't be taken seriously.

Well that was sort of underwhelming! Same old stuff followed by the same old responses. Scientists saying that seeing means nothing and holding up their so called scientific method as a blinder to protect them from seeing anything that doesn't fit their narrow ass view of the world. A little over a hundred years ago Scientists said that a man couldn't bear up under the strain of going over 60 MPH. I have NO doubt that before WW2 we would have been assured that there was NO possibility of traveling several times the speed of sound. And they would have laughed at you if you had tried to tell them about calculators much less PCs. Science is a lot better at telling us what can not and never will be done than at telling us what is and what will be. This is one reason why many if not most of the true advancements come from people who are not scholastically trained "Scientists". They are taught in school what is possible and what is not so they never try to do the impossible and so seldom come up with anything new. Einstein had no degrees that were not honorary, Bill Gates is not a college grad and The first private citizen to pilot a home made ship into space was a high school dropout.
I don't know what is out there. I don't know what it is that I have seen but at least I am willing to look again and wonder. Science is afraid to look because if they see, then their written in stone and handed down from on high theories will have to be reexamined. I truthfully doubt that they would consider it sufficient evidence if a ship landed on the lawn of the White House and 6 little big headed Aliens all "mooned" the President in a wave...but wouldn't it be fun watching them explain it away!!!!!!!

Personally I would say, "Don't bother." it was nothing worth watching unless you were a total novice about anything in this area. All they did was rerun all the old stuff and, IMHO, sort of snidely sniff at it. I wish I had bathed the dogs instead of watching it. I can't think of a single thing on it that hasn't been done and handled better by Discovery or the History Channel. If you don't have these channels then MAYBE it might be worth watching. Otherwise I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

I think we should just be happy that it was on a major station in prime time. Yes, it was a lot of re-hashed stuff that alot of us have been bored with for a long time, but Mr. and Mrs. Sears Appliance Salesman and his two pre-teens may have been oblivious to anything other than "something happened in Roswell" and now have a lot of questions in their heads they'd like to have answers to.
Some of those 'scientists' amazed me with their idiocy. They are so ingrained in their own thought processes, that any of this is just impossible. They assume that an alien race would be only as advanced as we are. How's that for an ego?

Yeah I saw the show last night. It was alright but still left alot unanswered, and it was almost like Mr. Jennings was afraid to take a side. I guess that with his career that is probably best that he just report it, not side with one or the other. The annimations were pretty crappy I thought, but the stories were pretty good. There were some of the older pictures that I hadn't seen before, but other than that, seemed like the same ol' thing.

Hi guys! It’s been a while since I’ve been yappin in this forum!
Personally I thought the show was very refreshing and I was also very impressed that it aired on a major network. I was also thrilled that Peter Jennings actually had the courage to do a story on a very touchy subject such as this. Keep in mind, there are quite a few people who do not have cable tv or satellite tv and/or people that have no desire to watch the Sci Fi channel or UFO stories on the Learning Channel or Discovery. Regardless, this made the whole issue slightly more credible in my opinion.
I was pretty amazed that the tone of the whole show seemed to sway towards the fact that UFO’s do exist. I was also very impressed with the video footage of the “Phoenix Lights” (I have never seen any footage regarding that incident). Those things materialized out of thin air! I also like the way they presented that story where they had the extreme skeptic claiming the “Phoenix Lights” were nothing more than flairs dropped over the city & then they switched over to the eyewitnesses who were adamantly claiming that what they saw could have never been just “lights” or “flairs.
I was also shocked that a major network (Not the Sci Fi Channel mind you) would have the guts to explain how & why the government chose to cover up all of the UFO reports in the late 40’s and 50’s & why the government mandated the start of “Project Blue Book”. They also indicated that this man (I forget his name) became a UFO believer toward the end of “Project Blue Book’s” run. They had quite a few ex-military & government personnel explaining their side of the story as well which seemed pretty convincing to me.
I also enjoyed the story revolving around Roswell. Maybe it was a top secret weather balloon project after all... Not every single sighting or event HAS to be an alien ship! Even if it’s one of the more glorified, overblown mediated stories of our era. Any way you skin a cat the whole tone of the show seemed to sway towards the fact that there are objects which are unidentifiable flying through Earth’s skies. It’s also true that “Seeing is believing”. I wasn’t a believer until I saw a huge ship hovering above my head! I didn’t believe in ghosts either until I experienced some very unexplainable events.
I agree that the information provided was just rehashed information aired on many low budget documentaries or “questionable” tv stations but this was a controversial story that aired in a prime time slot on a major network for all to see. Not too shabby in my opinion.
