Seriously though, given the ability to grow cells onto silicone, and the whole gammet of nanotechnology, isn't it just a matter of a relatively short period of time before we have robot warriors? Fully functioning, fully armed, fully deadly robot warriors?

i crave the day robots or some form of humanity created project evolves into a war with us...

Seeing the flexibility of those bots kind of gives me a strange feeling that we could easily get our a**es kicked by life sized bots armed or not...seeing them drop the fans made me think ... If we created them with AI , even if unarmed...they could easily arm them selves with a pole or other forms of melee weapons and go on a rampage thru ur local mall

What a coincidence, I'm a fully armed, deadly robot warrior from the future.
I was hoping somebody could help me out. I'm looking for a Sarah Connor. grin2.gif

but does the future need us?

http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/8.04/joy.html

Why the future doesn't need us.

Our most powerful 21st-century technologies - robotics, genetic engineering, and nanotech - are threatening to make humans an endangered species

11 pages... Interesting read, I read it a few years ago... Might get you thinking a lot more

WoW. just found some news released yesterday

Sex and the single robot

Scientists have made them walk and talk. There are even robots that can run. But a South Korean professor is poised to take their development several steps further, and give cybersex new meaning.

Kim Jong-Hwan, the director of the ITRC-Intelligent Robot Research Centre, has developed a series of artificial chromosomes that, he says, will allow robots to feel lusty, and could eventually lead to them reproducing. He says the software, which will be installed in a robot within the next three months, will give the machines the ability to feel, reason and desire.

Kim said: "Robots will have their own personalities and emotion and - as films like I Robot warn - that could be very dangerous for humanity. If we can provide a robot with good - soft - chromosomes, they may not be such a threat."

Although he admits his ideas sound fantastic, Kim is no crank. In the mid-1990s, the professor launched the robot football world cup, which has since become one of the most popular means for robotics researchers to measure their progress against competitors from around the world

Just thought I'd share that with you, cos I find that interesting and im Curious to how this will turn out lol.

We'll see.. kinda scary tho lol
et's daddy
seems weapon toting robots could be a real threat in the next 20 - 30 yrs

though if i have a robot bodyguard and he kills someone then i fry his harddrive would they know if i told him to do it or he just went beserk and did it of his own accord

could they prove either way ?

Here is where computers are compared to the processing power of the human brain

That is very funny to me for some reason. Amazing, but funny.

We already have robot soldiers. The US has several kinds of unmanned airplanes that can carry missiles. Most are remote controlled by a human on the ground, and therefore aren't robots, but some can be sent into a area pre-programmed to look for and shoot certain types of targets, such as tanks. Even a cruise missile is a simple robot. It's given the coordinates of the target and it uses the GPS system to fly to the target and then blow itself up. Nobody is steering it.

Humanoid robots? That'll take a few years.
