I am interested in all cultural and subcultural vampires.
my defintion: A vampire is a creature (usuallly undead, but not always) that steals some important life-sustaining element(most commonly blood) from mortal humanoids(usually Homo-sapains),. Most species of Vampire can only be awake at night.
I know that there are several different types of Vampires: (the two common ones are list, have to e-mail forum maintainer about the other two)
Blood-suckers: Dracula and variuous other vampires
Chee Suckers - Apparently, Chinese people believe that vampires steals an individuals soul.

My Christmas presents never had girls popping out of them...had I known that was going to happen I would have been far more into the Christmas spirit...
As for the vampires of the world; in my opinion it is the same thing as those that feel they are werewolves. It is one thing to enjoy the stories of said creatures, but they are obviously fictional beings and based in folklore. It is something completely different to believe that they exist in the real world and moreover that a person has become one of these creatures.
Having fostered younger children I have seen many 4, 5, 6 year olds that emulate their favorite superhero...some kids tuck a bath towel into the neck of their pajamas and run around the house as if their were superman or batman; it is common and understandable as children of that age have a wonderful sense of imagination and a sheltered understanding of what is real and what is not. They are also slowly developing a personality and looking at the things that they find qualities that are admirable; believing that you are saving people, and stand for truth and justice is a good thing at such a young age.
That being said, I find it disconcerting to see people in their teens continuing the same emulation, and moreover emulating creatures that are less than positive in scope of personality and relationship to the rest of society. I'd personally rather see someone copying superman than a vampire that drinks blood and is painfully antisocial...
It is an odd segment of our culture that believes in such things and I really don't understand how people can be so gullible once they pass the age of 8 or 9...

You know I totally agree. When I was a kid I had Wonder Woman Underroos and I wanted to grow up and be Lynda Carter. Now days kids want to grow up and be the Vampire Lestat. My daughter is into the goth scene (she's only 14) but she's not deluded into believing that vampires are real creatures. I think I would have more of a problem with it if she did
believe in vampires instead of just being interested in them. I understand the fascination up to a certain point, but believing they are
real...that's not good.

Yeah. What he said.
I think during the teenage years, many kids who are not popular like the idea of having power. The vampire fits that bill for them. They can imagine taking revenge on those who have wronged them. I was obsessed with vampires from the age of 14-18. I went so far as forming a club based on The Lost Boys. We would dress up like them and go out.

Hey, who said that I wanna be a vampire? Wake up, believing in them and wanting to be aren't the same.

And, as a matter of fact, believing in vampires hasn't wasted my time, not one second. I think that if they are real, that's fine by me, but if they aren't, too bad then. But I just believe that they

I have heard about psy-vampires too, someone said that instead of blood, they are draining your energy or something similar. One woman scientist, Diane, said that she doesn't know, how she became a vampire, but she thinks that it may have something to do with the psy-vamps.

chi vampires are unheard of in chinese culture. Psy vampires are from the people who believe in reptilians.
what facts can you base the existence of the vampires on?
QUOTE

some things are to crazy for anyone to believe. Most people put vampires in the same category as people who see pink elephants(which they think to see)
vampires would not be so ridiculed if there was any evidence supporting their existence. But there are not even sightings about it. It all started by superstition really.
they were usually believed to rise from the bodies of suicide victims, criminals, or evil sorcerers, though in some cases an initial vampire thus "born of sin" could pass his vampirism onto his innocent victim. the people opened the graves of the dead and found the natural things that happen to a body that dies like the blood dripping from the mouth.
what do people do when they dont understand something? they start saying it is magic or supernatural. That lead to the existence of vampires. Never in history has a report been that someone has fallen victim to a vampire. Not even in the past

I don't think kids neccessarily make themselves outcasts. They are really just looking for their own identity and they know they don't want the jock identity. So they explore. I don't think there's anything wrong with that as long as they have supportive parents. I was one of the 'weirdos' in HS and I do just fine now.

you are incapable of discussing. I told you in previous threads why it is impossible for vampires to exist and also i showed something about the origins of vampire. You ignored this. And you failed to make arguments for your believes. You have limited knowledge of genetics and you cannot see why it is impossible for creatures like vampires to exist
You claim to know about dna and evolution. If this was the case, you would know why it would be impossible for something looking like the human body to live on blood. Or even so why this would occur

Hotoke, there's no point in trying to argue with him as he's 15. It's common knowledge that 15 year olds know better than their elders don't you know? and if they can't think of a witty retort then you're either insane or "on something". And that's the way of the world I'm afraid. Of course you do get the exception, usually going hand-in-hand with maturity.

Vampire bats dont prove the existence of vampires. Thats putting the cart before the horse. Vampire bats were named so because of the LEGEND of vampires, and the fact that they get some of thier nutrients from the blood of livestock. They dont change shape or control other nocturnal animals or burst into flame in sunlight. Would you consider a leech a vampire? What about a tick?
