RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (Reuters) - Life guards in Rio de Janeiro have told bathers to leave sharks alone after three who strayed near the beach were killed following a suspected attack last week.
"A shark hysteria has spread on the beaches, leading to the killing of sharks, which normally are pretty small ... and generally hunt for smaller fish," said Col. Jorge Lopes, chief spokesman for the Brazilian state's civil defence.
