Y'know...those tapes/CD's you listen to while sleeping that are supposed to enhance your vocabulary.

Do they work? How do they work?
Lottie
I have no idea...why are you thinking of enhancing your vocab? original.gif
Mad Manfred
I've always thought it'd be cool to annoy people by speaking like those kids from Dawson's Creek original.gif

I'll also add the pompous British accent tongue.gif

But seriosuly, I'm just curious if they work.

No, they will not teach you while you sleep. If you could learn while sleeping, I would have aced my history finals. There is a very brief period between sleeping and waking in which your subconcious is more open to receiving information, however no link has ever been made with subconscious learning and enhanced retention of material.

If you want to learn from those tapes, you will have to pay attention to them wide awake.

Try and lucid dream, Its a great time to invent, be creative and solve things thumbsup.gif

Although I have never been able to achieve lucid dreaming
Mad Manfred
Cool, thanks guys thumbsup.gif

I wasn't very serious about doing it...it's just that I saw Homer do it and it seemed to work so...
Jesus_Freak
haha, is that Homer as in Homer Simpson MM?
Disinterested
I think it could work, but not magically like it did on the Simpsons.

When I was a teenager, I would fall asleep listening to a CD, and I would often put it on 'repeat'. If I forgot about it, I found that when I'd wake up I wouldn't be able to listen to it anymore, I'd just be sick of it already. So I know I was actually 'listening' to it even though I wasn't awake.

I think the same theory would apply, you'd listen but it would probably just be passive listening.

Does that make sense? huh.gif Nevermind me if it doesn't.

Yea that makes sense. Ive never tried audio CD stuff, but I am sure that it doesnt let you learn with out actually learning while you sleep. Sorry if thats confusing, but thats basically my thought.
